Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 80: Selecting Audition Scripts (1)
"It’s not," he said. "It’s just a souvenir."
I couldn’t help but laugh softly at his reaction. He actually had to drink two full glasses of water to stop coughing, and it made me laugh even harder.
"Oh, I’m just joking," I said, sitting down beside him. He looked so relaxed now, almost like he was melting into the couch after spending too much time in his wheelchair. "It’s not like I’m asking for a wedding ring. We’re not even a real married couple."
Sure, I’d asked him about wedding rings once before we got married at the courthouse, but that was just for the sake of formality. If my finger stayed bare for the rest of our marriage, that was perfectly fine with me.
However, for some reason, Lando froze the moment I said that, as if he had just committed a terrible sin.
The air between us grew strangely heavy, so I quickly changed the topic. "Um ... is Mr. Rowell coming over today?"
Lando cleared his throat and straightened up slightly. "Yes," he said softly. "He’ll be here after dinner."
I just responded with a soft hum, and a moment later, he said he was going to his room first to clean up and change clothes.
I didn’t say much and just nodded in response. Actually, my mind was occupied with deciding which kind of drama I should audition for next.
Most of the scripts Marissa had sent me were youth dramas, mostly about high school romances or stories filled with that carefree, coming-of-age energy.
There was nothing wrong with that. Most rookie actors usually chose dramas that suited their real personalities, like young people going for youthful, lighthearted stories.
But the problem was ... I’d already done that before, and honestly, I was getting a little bored with those kinds of plots. They all started to feel the same after a while.
Marissa told me I could audition for a supporting role first instead of jumping straight into a lead one. But if the character didn’t seem too challenging, she said she’d probably push me to go for the main role anyway.
I picked up my phone and scrolled through the list of drama titles Marissa had sent me. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
There were quite a few, some light and cheerful, others with a bit of mystery. My eyes lingered on a few of them as I tried to picture myself playing each role.
One was a coming-of-age romance about a girl learning to love again after losing everything. Another was a workplace drama filled with sarcastic dialogue and intense chemistry between the leads.
I let out a small sigh, tapping my fingers against the screen. "Boring ...," I muttered under my breath.
[Why don’t you choose a drama produced by a big production company instead? That way, even if the story’s boring, at least you’ll still get a good profit.]
Penny had a point, and honestly, I thought the same thing. But still... if I could find something I genuinely liked and get a good opportunity out of it, then I wanted to try.
’Marissa didn’t send me anything from Zentra,’ I told her in my mind.
[Maybe the dramas Zentra Media is releasing this year don’t really fit your rookie image.]
I let out a heavy sigh. Yeah ... besides, even if I auditioned for something under Zentra, it wasn’t like I could just ask Lando to let me pass the audition.
However, there was actually no problem if I joined an audition that didn’t match my rookie image.
Unfortunately, if I said that to Marissa, she might think I was being arrogant, and if I applied for an audition without telling her, she’d probably think I was being disrespectful.
’Maybe I can try that for my second project,’ I thought to myself.
For now, I’d probably go with the high school romance drama. Helcia was already twenty-four, but her face still looked young enough that if I put on a school uniform, people would probably believe me if I said I was eighteen.
However, when I looked at the production company behind the high school romance drama, I frowned. Wait a second ... wasn’t this one under the Brixton Group?
As far as I knew, the Brixtons’ main company was Brixton Holding Group, which owned a ton of subsidiaries; from entertainment to fashion. Their entertainment branch was Brix Entertainment, and under that, there were smaller divisions like Green Leaf Production House.
That particular studio mostly worked on youth dramas or teen-fiction adaptations. But if I remembered correctly, the president of Brix Entertainment was none other than Lando’s eldest brother, Kai Brixton.
I knew that because I’d acted in a drama series produced by Green Leaf Production House back then, and I’d even seen Kai Brixton in person when he had just taken over as president of Brix Entertainment around ten years ago.
Honestly, he didn’t seem like a bad person at all. Sure, he was strict, but I’d never seen him yell at anyone. Everyone who worked under him often said he was polite and didn’t carry himself like some arrogant rich man.
Still, public images can be deceiving. Even Madeline had looked like the perfect, innocent woman before her bullying video went viral.
Besides ... if Kai was really a good person, shouldn’t he have helped Lando back then, when Maxwell was bullying him?
I didn’t get the chance to think more about it, though, because just then, Penny suddenly announced my weekly mission.
[Ding! Ding!]
[Mission of the Week (1/1)]
[Mission: Audition in the enemy’s territory!]
[Goal: Join an audition under Brixton Holding Group’s company.]
[Reward: $35,000]
[Time Limit: 7 days]
[Note: For this mission, you only need to attend the audition. There will be no penalty if you don’t pass.]
I frowned, staring at the screen. First of all, why was there only one mission this week? Secondly, why did it have to be something that literally threw me into enemy territory?!
But the reward looked good. It was as big as one of my random quests, even.
