Chapter 120: Kidnap

The last time she talked to Wen Jiaojiao was four days ago.

Wen Jiaojiao told her that she and her boyfriend were planning to travel to Europe. Once they got tired of traveling abroad, they would come back to find her. The number Wen Jiaojiao left was dialed, but no one answered.

Xu Si immediately became suspicious.

She needed to meet with Wen Jiaojiao to ensure her safety. Other matters could be kept secret, but not issues concerning Wen Jiaojiao’s safety; this was a promise she had made to Wen Jiaojiao’s mother.

It wasn’t just out of childhood friendship. It was her debt to the Wen Family. If Wen Jiaojiao’s mother hadn’t sheltered her during her most helpless childhood years, she would have been killed by those money-obsessed stepmothers and wouldn’t have lived to grow up.

For every time Wen Jiaojiao’s mother had helped her, she felt obligated to help Wen Jiaojiao in return.

That was why she had pestered her father to transfer schools and appeared before Wen Jiaojiao, acting like an omnipotent hero, prompting Wen Jiaojiao to declare that if they both fell into the water, Xu Si would choose to have the police save Wen Jiaojiao first.

So, even when she was frantically busy, Xu Si still took the time to meet with the detectives.

Her vocal cords hadn’t fully recovered. She sat on the soft sofa in Xu Mansion, with Anshi standing beside her, speaking on her behalf.

The detectives’ attire wasn’t conspicuous: no berets, no exaggerated, downward-curving mustaches, or large pipes. With their ordinary faces, they could blend into any industry.

When Wen Jiaojiao’s situation was mentioned, they looked troubled.

"Director Xu, Miss Wen’s whereabouts are not without clues. But, oddly, after she entered a mansion, she never came out again. We’ve expended great effort and obtained only a little information. It seems she’s not in that mansion, and the Wen Family is aware of this," one of the detectives said.

"What about other clues?" Anshi asked.

Xu Si frowned, her eyes downcast. Beneath her thick lashes, her cold, shadowed eyes fixed on the cigarette in her hand, the strange feeling in her heart refusing to ease.

The detective, who had been slightly hunched, straightened up, his expression serious. He said hesitantly, "Director Xu, you mentioned she went abroad, but we didn’t see Miss Wen at any border checkpoints that day. We suspect she might not want to be tracked by the Xu Family and may have entered other countries through illegal channels. However, upon inquiry, the smuggling boats haven’t made any recent moves."

Anshi said, "Continue."

"Last night, we found another clue unrelated to Miss Wen’s whereabouts. It concerns what happened at the old Wen Mansion that night. Miss Wen didn’t cut anyone. Someone broke into the Wen Mansion and injured the head of the Wen Family. It seems Miss Wen snatched the intruder’s knife and, during the scuffle, was threatened. She then fled alone in a hurry and got into a car. Of course, I have no concrete evidence for any of this. It’s just what I overheard of the Wen Family’s statement to the police station while I was in the ventilation ducts."

Xu Si suddenly looked up, her heart jolting. A piece of tobacco, snapped in two, plummeted to the ground, scattering on the tips of her shoes and blending with the carpet’s color. The atmosphere in the Xu Mansion turned sour.

Xu Si asked hoarsely, "Is there any news about her boyfriend? The one I told you about."

The detective nodded. "I was just about to tell you. It’s strange. The man you described is in his thirties, a very successful businessman. He’s been frequenting Hong Kong Island lately, but Miss Wen is not with him. In other words, it seems Miss Wen doesn’t actually know this man. The people who took her seem to be..." He hesitated. "They seem to be..."

"Who?" Xu Si rasped.

"Do you remember the news about the Gu Family?"

Xu Si knitted her brows. "Is it related to the Gu Family?"

"Somewhat. The Gu Family once conspired with criminal organizations to establish hidden factories throughout Hong Kong Island. They were very covert and remain undiscovered to this day. And it seems the people who took her were from one of those hidden factories."

"..." Xu Si was silent.

Seeing her silence, the detective couldn’t help but add, "I speculate that if Miss Wen has no connection to these hidden factories, then her deceiving you might have been due to coercion, or perhaps she didn’t want you to get involved. We also discovered that someone was staking out your home recently, but they disappeared overnight."

Xu Si’s face darkened instantly, her lips pressing into a thin line. The tobacco in her hand was crushed to pieces.

She hardly needed to doubt; she already had some answers. It was those scumbags again. She had been too complacent, thoroughly fooled, even helping to cover up Wen Jiaojiao’s disappearance. Why had they taken Jiaojiao? And where was Jiaojiao now?

Just as this thought arose, Butler Ge hurried in with a cordless phone, his steps rushed and his face pale.

"Miss, there’s a phone call for you."

Xu Si glanced at the handset, took it, and held it to her ear.

"Miss Xu, you should already be aware of Miss Wen’s situation. Would you like to bring Miss Wen home? Come meet at Seaside Road."

The voice on the other end of the line was strangely distorted, as if deliberately blurred and indistinct.

Xu Si’s expression grew increasingly somber. Remembering the rear-end collision in that torrential downpour, her red lips parted slightly. "Seaside Road again? What, do you terrorists have some shameful secret there?"

"You have one hour. Come or not, it’s up to you. I’ll allow you to bring your own bodyguards for protection—Hong Kong Island cops, whatever. But if you dare inform anyone from the Triad Society, I’ll personally snap Miss Wen’s throat. To be frank, while you were away, the Xu Mansion was bugged with quite a few listening devices, so don’t try to fool me. Oh, by the way, let me introduce ourselves. We are from Organization X, and we also have the life-saving medicine for Fei Yi."

"What life-saving medicine?" Xu Si asked, her voice still hoarse.

"You don’t know? HA HA, interesting. It’s not so simple to become a god. Why do you think he doesn’t dare to leave the Underground City for too long? Why does he want to find us but not dare to kill all of us? Of course, there’s a reason. Come over, let’s discuss it, and I’ll tell you everything."

Is this a gang war? Do they want to use her to threaten Pei Zhen? Or is it about settling an old score from four years ago? After all, they lost quite a few men in that collision.

The urgency in Xu Si’s eyes faded, replaced by a chilling coolness. "It must have been difficult for you, setting such a long line just to fish for me."

"We didn’t want it to be this troublesome, but someone has been watching you too closely. One last request, if you’re willing to come," the other party scoffed. "Remember to shake off those ’experiments’ outside your door. With your driving skills, it should be quite simple."

Xu Si was slightly stunned.

Recalling Pei Zhen saying he would replace her bodyguards... so they’ve arrived, have they? Wait a second. What did he just say? Pei Zhen wants to find *them*?

Her lips suddenly curved into a smile, her mood distinctly pleased. "Sure, I’ll be right there."

The distance from the Xu Mansion to Seaside Road was considerable. The timing was very precise, leaving her no chance to gather more people. Anshi couldn’t accompany her; the company needed his management, and he also represented one of her contingency plans.

Observing the restless, agitated wind outside the window, Xu Si called Anshi to her side. Her throat raw and painful, she whispered something to him.

Then, with a dozen bodyguards, she drove off. Before leaving, she specifically had a few of them get into her car.

A short while later, Seaside Road was still some distance away.

Xu Si calculated the time, her gaze occasionally drifting to the rearview mirror. Sure enough, cars were stealthily following her.

Very clandestine. If not for that person’s warning, she might not have noticed them at all.

After taking a turn, Xu Si leisurely closed all the car windows. She honked the horn sharply a few times, then fixed her gaze on the road ahead, her slender wrist deftly straightening the steering wheel.

She said to the black-clad bodyguards sitting bolt upright in her car, "Hold on tight. Don’t go flying out."

The words had barely left her lips when she floored the accelerator.

The sports car’s exhaust ROARED like an angry bull. It veered into the downtown streets with a sharp, cunning arc, its tires leaving pale scuff marks on the pavement as it trailed a plume of murky exhaust.

When a gifted driver like Xu Si wanted to lose someone, forget the Triad Society’s men—even her own bodyguards couldn’t keep up with her taillights.
