Chapter 204: Street food for her

"Was she... angry?" Adrian asked.

Ji Yan was startled by the weird nature of the question. When had his second master paused to reflect upon the feelings of other people? Despite caring, he would not stop to reflect upon what others felt or thought.

Even for Ella, at most he would know that she is angry and then he would go on a rage fest too.

So, this... was something entirely new.

Ji Yan immediately lowered his head at the opportunity, "Miss Yu did not seem angry at your refusal to let her go home. But... Second Master’s relationship with Miss Yu has been flourishing by leaps and downs. Any obstacle now might give birth to a rift..."

’Bam’

Ji Yan’s words were yet to finish when Adrian shot to his feet and in a few large strides, he was out of the office.

Ji Yan heaved a relieved sigh and chased after him.

On the way to Eve Mansion, Adrian pulled out his phone and tapped on Ella’s number. Seeing that there was no new message from her, he tugged at the bar a few more times until the phone auto-locked itself, "Defected."

Ji Yan dabbed his custom handkerchief on his face. Out of the fear of being smashed in the face by a phone, he barely held himself from saying that the phone was one of the latest ones out there.

"Stop," Adrian’s cold voice cut through the silence in the car.

’Screech’

The black sedan came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road, "Second Master?" Ji Yan turned to look at the man, only to realize that he had already alighted the car.

Ji Yan shivered and hurriedly alighted the car, chasing after the man who was crossing the road.

With one hand tucked inside his pocket, Adrian crossed the road. His steps came to a halt only when he reached the food stalls on the street.

"Oh my god! Who is that?"

"A model?"

"Are you crazy? He would be an A-lister if he was a model but I don’t remember seeing anyone as such!"

"He is so tall, ah..."

"OH! OH! He turned! He turned in this way. Did you see his face...."

"So gorgeous..."

But despite the blatant admiration, nobody dared to take a step closer to Adrian. And they were further intimidated by Ji Yan who scanned the place with a cold gaze.

On the other side, the sharp scent of pepper oil and garlic wafted through the air as Adrian stopped in front of a street food stall, dressed in his crisp black tailored suit, looking like he had no business being anywhere near a food cart.

He surveyed the tiny folding table, the dented aluminum pots bubbling with fiery red broth, and the swarm of plastic stools like it was a battlefield.

"Yo, bro! Want something spicy?" the vendor asked, wiping his hands on his apron.

Adrian’s eyes narrowed. "Everything."

As the vendor stood there jaw-slacked, Adrian pointed at the entire display. "Pack it."

The vendor blinked. "All of it?"

Adrian didn’t answer. He took out his wallet and with all the solemnity of a man paying for international weapons, offered his black card.

Ji Yan, who had just reached the stall: "_"

The vendor: "_"

The vendor gulped softly, looking between the card and then Adrian like he’d just been asked to process interplanetary currency. "...You got cash?" he asked cautiously.

Adrian frowned. "This isn’t sufficient?"

The vendor sweated, having never seen a black card before in his life, "It... It seems sufficient to buy my entire stall, boss."

Adrian looked genuinely confused. "How much is this food?"

"Like... twenty bucks? Thirty, if you want the extra crayfish."

Adrian paused. "For all of it?"

The vendor nodded, trying not to laugh when he saw the look of bewilderment crossing Adrian’s face. "Yeah. That includes skewers, crawfish, spicy fried buns, and sweet tofu pudding too."

Adrian looked down at the boiling pot of bright red crayfish as he squinted. "You should raise your prices."

Since she loved all of this, they should be worth more.

Unaware of Adrian’s reasoning, the vendor nearly burst into tears, "Finally, my art of cooking is being appreciated... I will surely raise the prices..." he sniffed.

The person who had come to pay a few bucks looked at Adrian grievously.

Meanwhile, Adrian stood there unbothered as he watched the food being packed, one by one. She would like it.

In the Eve Mansion.

As soon as Adrian entered the mansion, Bertha rushed out to receive his coat, "Second Master." She bowed.

Adrian raised his hand and motioned towards Ji Yan. Ji Yan immediately led a few servants outside.

’Woof woof’ ’Meow Meow’

Riri and Lala rushed outside, circling Adrian as soon as they got a sniff of him. Adrian squatted and after a moment of observation, he raised his hands, nuzzling the heads of both the little ones.

As Bertha witnessed the heartwarming scene, her eyes welled up with tears. A few months ago, she could not have imagined witnessing something like this.

In a matter of a few minutes, the servants carefully carried the food packages to the dining table.

Seeing the plastic containers, Bertha was taken aback. Not to mention that he was a picky eater, she had never seen him taking a liking to such food before. "Second Master, this... The dinner is being prepared. If you are hungry, I can prepare supper..."

"It’s fine," Adrian pushed himself to his feet as Riri and Lala ran off to play. His gaze travelled upstairs, "Where is she?"

"Earlier, Miss Yu had come to receive the reports from the hospital. After that, she has been in her room the entire day,"

Adrian’s eyes darkened as he turned to Bertha, "Reports?"

Bertha immediately realized that he was not around when Ella had the confrontation with Esther. Immediately, she narrated the entire incident including the food that was brought by Esther. "Then Miss Yu asked me to get that food tested. Today, after getting the reports, she went back to her room..."

Bertha trailed off as Adrian’s eyes narrowed, a storm stirred in his dark pupils as he turned to Ji Yan.

Ji Yan’s knees buckled under the pressure, "Second Master, the first time when Esther had brought the f-food for Miss Yu, we wanted to have her go through the regular inspection but Miss Yu...."

He did not dare to say it out loud. But back then, Ella had threatened them with her life. She yelled that they could mistreat her for once but if they dared to mistreat her sister, she would take everyone down with her.

The situation between Adrian and Ella was even more delicate at that time. And Ji Yan remembered doing a customary check of the stuff that Esther brought. Most of those were just unhealthy junk food and although it was bad, it was nothing life threatening.

To not trigger Ella further, he had let it pass. Moreover, they are biological sisters and Ji Yan had no reason to doubt that Esther would put anything life threatening in that food that she brought for Ella.

’Thump’

Ji Yan dropped to his knees, "I know my fault. Please punish me accordingly, Second Master..."

Before he could finish speaking, Adrian was gone.

Adrian stopped in front of Ella’s room, his hand remained fixated on the doorknob for a while. After a moment, he stepped back and raised his hand to knock.

A few minutes passed but there was no response from inside.

"Second Master, Miss Yu probably dozed off..." Bertha spoke when she and Ji Yan caught up to Adrian.

’Click’

Adrian’s movements were extremely slow as he opened the door and entered the room.

Bertha and Ji Yan waited outside. But after a few moments, there were no movements from the room. Exchanging a quiet glance, they mustered their courage and stepped inside.

However, their souls nearly flew out of their bodies when they spotted their Second Master standing in the middle of an empty room.

Adrian’s expressions were indecipherable as he gazed at the bedsheet-rope that was tied to the bedpost, hanging from the window.

’’S-Second Master..." Ji Yan could almost hear an echo of his voice as he spoke and the eeriness in the air unruffled him.

Just when he thought... Just when he thought nothing could go wrong again... Miss Yu, ah, Miss Yu, why must you do this?!

There was no response from Adrian. No movement. He only looked at the white fabric with an unchanging expression.

"Second Master, shall I dispatch our men to bring Miss Yu back to the mansion?"

Ji Yan held his breath, "Or I can locate where the Yu Family is holding the event. And we can head over there right away..."
