Reborn on Wedding Night: Flirting the Cold Bigshot into Blushes-Chapter 290: She Doesn’t Want to See Him, He Can’t Find Her
Mr. Allen and Mrs. Allen weren’t sure what the reason was, so they immediately wanted to ask Godfery Shaw.
When Godfery Shaw woke up this morning, he couldn’t believe Nancy Allen had left on her own and thought something had happened, so he immediately went out to find her.
Charles Allen got through to Godfery Shaw on the phone.
As soon as the call was answered, Godfery Shaw quickly asked, "How is it, have you found Nancy?"
Charles Allen said in a serious tone, "We found her. She called us on video saying she wanted to go for a walk and has gone out of town but didn’t say where. Did something happen between you two, or did you do something to Nancy last night that you shouldn’t have?"
Godfery Shaw was stunned.
Nancy really wasn’t missing, she left on her own accord.
He couldn’t remember anything about last night.
Did something happen after he got drunk last night? Did he do something to hurt Nancy?
No matter how hard he tried, Godfery Shaw couldn’t remember, and he said in a dull voice, "I don’t know."
Charles Allen’s tone grew even more serious, "You’d better think carefully. Nancy is safe and left on her own accord. The biggest possibility is that something happened between you two. We won’t interfere in what’s between you and Nancy. My only request is that you don’t do anything to hurt her. She’s had a hard time these past few years."
"Hmm, I understand."
After hanging up the phone, Godfery Shaw tried calling Nancy again.
However, the phone remained unanswered, and his messages were like a stone dropped into the sea.
Nancy is safe; she called her parents, she just doesn’t want to talk to him.
Godfery Shaw pressed his hands to his temples, his head aching. What on earth happened?
Did he force her last night?
Just like years ago when he lost control and touched her, and when sober, she coldly asked for a divorce.
Thinking of this, Godfery Shaw felt a chill run down his spine.
He made a cut on his hand and coldly said, "Come out."
In a short while, Godfery Shaw’s expression changed, and he muttered to himself, "Do you know what happened last night?"
"Heh, brother, we share the same thoughts now. If you don’t know, I won’t either. I actually want to ask you, what exactly did you do last night to make her leave?"
Godfery Shaw looked at the slowly bleeding wound on his palm and fell silent.
The other personality was silent too.
After a long time, Godfery Shaw got up and continued his search.
He needed to know where she was, and he had to see her in person to ask if there was a misunderstanding.
Yet Godfery Shaw searched all the airports and stations in Capital City, and there was no trace of Nancy.
Determined, Godfery Shaw had his trusted aide track Nancy’s phone.
Among Godfery Shaw’s inner circle was a person named Jacob. Years ago, when Godfery Shaw lost control and broke into Elegant Art Academy to lock Nancy in a dorm, it was Jacob who hacked into all the surveillance at Elegant Art.
Jacob sat in front of several computers, one of them connected to Godfery Shaw’s video.
Sweat began to bead on Jacob’s forehead as he said, "Boss, it’s not working; there’s a very strong firewall on Young Madam’s phone."
Godfery Shaw suddenly spoke softly, "Forget it, stop now. If you keep attacking her phone, she’ll get angry."
Jacob looked nervously at the silhouette on the screen, "But Boss..."
Godfery Shaw hung up the video call.
He knew Nancy had exceptional hacking skills and even blocked her phone against him.
She didn’t want to see him, and so he wouldn’t be able to find her.
Godfery Shaw calmed down.
He didn’t return to Riverwood City for the time being and stayed at the Allen family home.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen said that Nancy would call to let them know she’s safe.
He wanted to see Nancy next time she called.
Even if he could only see her on someone else’s phone, it would make him feel more at ease.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen ultimately didn’t drive him away, whether out of feeling sorry for his crestfallen state or because they had just accepted this son-in-law yesterday and couldn’t bear to turn him away.
...
Meanwhile, Nancy Allen stepped off the plane.
Elijah Jefferson, observing Nancy’s state, worriedly said, "Since you’re here, don’t stay in a hotel. I have a place you can stay, is that okay?"
Nancy nodded. She hadn’t planned on staying in a hotel anyway; she didn’t want Godfery Shaw finding her.
As always, it was a three-bedroom, one-living-room setup.
Elijah Jefferson’s places seemed to have a consistent style, suggesting he lived alone no matter where he was.
The house had been prepared in advance, with the guest room ready. Elijah led Nancy to the guest room and said, "You didn’t rest well on the plane, so get some good sleep. The wardrobe has new clothes for evening wear; deal with everything after you’ve rested."
Nancy nodded.
Feeling utterly exhausted, Nancy entered the room but still wanted a shower first. A few hours ago, she’d been in a bar and hit someone, leaving her feeling grimy.
She opened the wardrobe, finding various fresh changes of clothes, including pajamas—all new, washed, giving off a clean scent of laundry detergent.
Elijah was a meticulous person, and despite their hurried night-time departure, he had everything organized so meticulously that Nancy felt no discomfort in this unfamiliar place.
Nancy randomly picked a set of pajamas, showered quickly, and lay down.
Her body was extremely fatigued, yet her mind remained alert.
Since waking from a five-year coma, she’d become very sleepy, as her weakened body needed long rest periods to recuperate slowly.
Yet with her frail body, she hadn’t slept for an entire day and night now.
After lying down for a long time, Nancy felt her face getting a bit warm, so she got up and opened the door.
In the living room, Elijah Jefferson leaned on the sofa reviewing files while the kitchen gave off a food scent, suggesting someone was cooking.
Elijah heard the footsteps, looked up from his documents, saw Nancy up, and placed the files down, walking towards her: "Didn’t I tell you to rest up? Why did you get up just after lying down?"
Nancy picked up the pen on the table, found a blank piece of paper, and wrote: "I think I have a fever. I didn’t bring my medicine."
Nancy felt that even when upset, she shouldn’t throw a fit. She couldn’t recklessly let herself fall severely ill, nor should she make Elijah worry about her health.
So perceiving she might be sick, she chose to tell Elijah immediately rather than lie in bed, wallowing in self-pity.
Elijah, seeing what Nancy wrote, immediately reached for her forehead.
His palm was met with scorching heat, causing Elijah’s face to fall. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Let’s go to the hospital." Just as he said that, Elijah remembered Nancy couldn’t go to a hospital, so he quickly added, "I’ll call a doctor over now. Which medications do you usually take? Let me know, and I’ll have someone fetch them."
Nancy somewhat apologetically wrote: "Some of the medicines I take are specially formulated, so they might be hard to find outside here."
Elijah reassured her: "That’s alright. Give me something, and I’ll figure it out."
Nancy lowered her head, paused a while, then wrote: "Sorry, I’m causing you trouble."
Nancy didn’t mean to be difficult; it’s just that, in times of sorrow, people often don’t consider so many things.
Her sickly body would be a burden no matter whom she’s around.
