Chapter 47: The top tier?

The rank announcement was made in the main conference hall of the University, and for some unknown reason, students from other branches were also called.

Amelia sat in the middle row to blend in with the crowd, not wanting any useless attention on herself, especially from people like Alexia and other friends of Hannah who wouldn’t stop at anything to humiliate her because they thought it was their duty to show her her place.

She watched Hannah enter with her friends and sit in the second row with Alpha Killian close to her.

As if Alpha Killian felt her gaze on him, he turned around to look for her.

His gaze met hers, and Amelia tilted her head, daringly looking at him. The man, uncomfortable with her provocative gaze, looked in front again, and the girl smiled.

Amelia remembered what had happened last time at this announcement.

Since she arrived three months late, she was assigned to the last rank of the healers, the most useless ones who didn’t know basic formulas. Hannah, who had taken her data and ideas, was in the first rank, along with the best healers.

Amelia was supposed to do all the homework and solve Hannah’s problems in the name of love.

On the other hand, she deserved the place but was supposed to prove her talent to everyone through her marks, which she failed to do because of various factors.

"Are you nervous?" Luna Jennifer sat beside her and asked with a soft smile.

Amelia turned to Luna before shaking her head.

"Nothing to worry about. I know I am top tier," She said.

"One would call that overconfidence," Alpha Zane smirked.

"I would say it is my belief in my capabilities. Am I being arrogant?" Amelia asked with a smile.

Jennifer chuckled at her words before grinning at Alpha Zane, who looked tongue-tied.

The head of the student council walked to the podium and welcomed the professors who ranked their students.

"There is a twist to this time’s submission. We have received some amazing assignments, and our professors thought it would be a good chance to learn a little for everyone, especially those who didn’t do well," the student council head said.

"Who is he?" Amelia asked.

For some reason, she felt like she had an encounter with this guy in her previous life.

"Why? Did he catch your gaze?" Jennifer teased Amelia, who blushed at her words, unsure of what to say.

Ryan and Derrick, sitting in the row before them, turned around and looked at Amelia as if judging her choices in men.

"I feel like I met him before," Amelia explained.

"He is Cameron Silver. You recently visited the joint council, didn’t you? He is Ethan’s cousin," Ryan explained.

Amelia understood.

Cameron. She had heard this name before. She remembered an incident when she was on a run as a rogue. He had helped her out and said that she had a chance at a good life.

He was a good guy, probably because he was the head of the student council or because he empathised with rogues.

"Hmm," Amelia zoned out for the rest of the ceremony until Hannah’s turn.

"Miss Hannah, who came third in the test, has submitted an awesome assignment. It’s about healing burning wounds from silver. It can be revolutionary. Let’s give a round of applause to Miss Hannah, who will explain how she came to this theory and the next steps towards her research," Cameron said.

Hannah, who had been smiling earlier, froze in her place.

She had asked Amelia to prepare something easy related to fever because she was working under her father on the same stuff and knew a thing or two.

But who would’ve thought that Amelia would go ahead and submit something like that?

She was too confident in Amelia and didn’t check the assignment or what was written inside before forwarding it from her email.

"Go ahead. Slay, girl," Alexia hushed loudly.

Hannah’s lips twitched as she fought to maintain her smile.

She turned around, her gaze meeting Amelia, who showed her a fighting sign.

The girl smiled bitterly, gulping her anger before she walked up the stairs.

"Healing silver burning. That’s some dope shit. I didn’t know she had a brain," Jennifer commented.

Ryan, who knew who was behind the research, turned and looked at the girl.

How could Amelia give Hannah such an important project and assignment? This was revolutionary.

But he didn’t know that Amelia had already lost too many experiments to Hannah, and this was just another one among them. It didn’t matter too much to her.

"Shh, let me hear her explain. This is interesting," Alpha Zane said, and Jennifer pouted.

"She won’t explain," Amelia said with a smile.

"What do you mean?" Alpha Zane asked.

Amelia grinned.

Hannah would be a fool if she grabbed that mic and spouted nonsense because the professors before her weren’t rookies, nor did they belong to the healers of the west who would vouch for her.

As Hannah reached the podium and was about to hold the mic, she suddenly fainted, and everyone gasped.

Alpha Killian rushed to the podium to help the girl, and Amelia chuckled, her laugh catching her friend’s attention.

Ryan, the only one who knew the reason, pressed his lips into a thin line before sighing.

The ceremony continued as it was supposed to before Amelia’s turn.

"Well, what is this? Is there a mistake? You didn’t exactly submit any particular formula but just a few techniques," Cameron said, but he moved out of the way when he saw Amelia walking to the podium to answer.

"Greetings, everyone. Honorable professors, I am sure those who are well-versed in ancient healing techniques that were passed to us through our ancestors know what I have mentioned here. It’s a technique indeed—a technique to cure paralysis," Amelia said.

Her gaze shifted to the triplet brothers as she said those words.

Just like she had expected, they immediately looked at her.

"Student Amelia, proceed, " one of the professors, interested in her work, signalled for her to explain.

Amelia smiled and, with permission, started a detailed presentation she had prepared about how to encourage the treatment using the ancient needle method.

Then she gave the formulas of the decoction that would go along with it.

"How much time will it take, according to you?" Aaron, the closest to his mother, raised his hand and asked, not bothering that he was interrupting her work.

Amelia understood his urgency and interest.

"Seven days to show results. One month to cure completely. My best shot is 2.5 weeks," She said.

The professor nodded at her.

"You are quite confident. We will surely test it," The professors said.

"Since you are a prodigy kid with a brilliant brain. I want to know about that healing formula for silver burning," Ryan said.

Cameron immediately stepped forward and took the mic from Amelia’s hands.

"Student Ryan, we understand your curiosity, but it’s not Student Amelia’s assignment. How can she–" he started, but Amelia smiled.

"Sure," she said without hesitation.

The professors raised their brows before signalling Cameron to give the mic to Amelia.

"Are you sure about it?" The professor who was impressed earlier asked, and Amelia nodded.

She walked to the podium, where Hannah left the assignment sheets, before explaining the formulas and their side effects.

"While this is an effective measure. It’s still lacking in many aspects. It’s not well tested and can cause cancer. We have natural healing, and it’s better to rely on it. However, a little change here can improve it," Amelia said.

She made the change and wrote the extensive formula again.

Even the professor, whose domain wasn’t organic chemistry, felt a headache just reading the formula’s many carbon compounds.

Alpha Killian, who returned after dropping Hannah off at the infirmary because he was genuinely interested in different cures, saw Amelia shining like a ray of sunlight in the darkness.

There was a strange glow on her face as she explained something that was her forte and that she loved.

He felt mesmerized just looking at her.

"This can be tested," Amelia said with a smile before handing the mic to Cameron.

"Thank you for giving me this chance to explain," Amelia said.

The professor, impressed since earlier, stood and clapped for her, followed by everyone.

Not only did she have a great mind, but she was also humble and sweet. It would surely take her to higher heights.

"I don’t care about the rest of the results. I announce Amelia in the first rank of the healers, and I will personally train her," Professor Kinsley said.

Amelia raised her eyes.

Her heart skipped a beat. She remembered roaming around Professor Kinsley to get at least one chance to learn from him because he was also called a prodigy among healers.

It wasn’t just that. They said a witch bestowed him with magical healing, and his techniques were unique and impossible to mimic.

"You will take me as a disciple?" Amelia pointed to herself, still in disbelief.

Everyone was in shock. If that were possible, it would make Amelia have professor Kinsley’s one and only disciple ever, when so many talented people came and begged him to take them under his wings.

"I will," The old man smiled, and Amelia smiled before she descended the stairs and held his hand like a kid holding his teacher’s hand after being praised.

"Thank you," she said, placing his hand on her forehead as if worshipping him. The man blushed.

"Don’t suck up to me just yet," The man cleared his throat and everyone chuckled.
