Kaden paused for a moment and then resumed his run. He did not have time to act as a savior for every damsel in distress. "On second thoughts…" He suddenly stopped. The shriek was actually coming from a known location. The scourge of the forest lived in that direction.

In his last life, he only barely escaped from getting mauled to death by that beast. The fear instilled by that beast was still crystal clear in his mind. It was a seed of self-doubt he couldn’t shake no matter how much he leveled after that.

This beast was the reason why he joined the Savior in the first place. If not for this beast…

Kaden let out a breath. There was no point in blaming his weakness on some other beast. He was responsible for shaping his destiny and he would do it right this time around. Besides his stomach was growling in hunger already. The scourge would make a fine snack.

He stopped and started running in the direction where he heard the shriek. He was almost there and a woman was running right at him.

Kaden skidded to a stop as the woman barreled toward him, her shrill screams cutting through the air. He barely had time to react as she darted right past him, almost colliding with him, her eyes wide with terror. "Help! That monster—it’s coming!" she screamed, not even slowing down.

Kaden turned his head and saw a huge bear charging straight toward them. His heart slammed in his chest as the creature roared. For a split second, he remembered that last life—how close he’d come to getting torn apart. But this time, he wasn’t going to run.

Kaden didn’t even flinch as the huge bear charged at him. With his new draconian power in full swing, he moved like lightning. Before the bear could even get close, Kaden darted forward, his fist connecting solidly with the beast’s chest. The bear barely had time to register the hit before it was hit with another punch—then another—each blow landing effortlessly.

With just three hits, the bear shot backward like a football he kicked, crashing into the tree behind it with an agonized growl. It looked as if birds were flying around its head as it wobbled unstably.

Before it could regain its composure, Kaden dashed forward and punched it again. He could use his other druid skills in his draconian form but he didn’t need them for this fight. He felt more alive when he primally punched the huge beast like it was a mere punching bag.

This one did not deserve his true skills. Kaden punched and punched until he vented enough of his frustrations. By the time he was done, the bear was unrecognizable.

The bear, which had looked so fierce just a moment ago, was now nothing more than a bloody pulp on the ground—a complete and total beatdown. Kaden stood there, tail swishing lazily behind him, feeling more alive than ever. His anger, his fear, and every bit of self-doubt he had ever known vanished with each blow he landed.

Kaden’s mind was drifting back to those painful memories when suddenly loud sobs snapped him back to the moment. He turned around to see the woman crouched on the ground, tears streaming down her face as she buried her head in her hands.

He walked over slowly, his tail still swishing behind him. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, his voice softer now. The woman looked up, her eyes red and terrified, and managed a shaky nod.

Kaden only now noticed that this was the same woman he had saved a few days back, the one who was with the priestess. Wait, where did the priestess go? He looked around and all he saw was the bloody pulp of the beast. It couldn’t be right?

"She died?"

"Hey, answer me. Did she die?" Kaden crouched down in front of her, almost shouting at her.

The poor woman shrieked once again as she started scrambling backward and attempting to flee. Unfortunately, she was not successful and fell down face first on the dirt ground, tears streaming down her eyes.

"Please. Please kill me. Just kill me and then do whatever you want. Please just kill me."

"I… what are you talking about?" Kaden let out a sigh. "I am sorry, I did not mean to scare you. You are perfectly safe with me. See, I killed that thing. I have saved you twice now."

But it looked like she was not ready to hear anything. She kept repeating the same thing. She trembled, tears streaming down her face as she stared off into nothing. "I... I can’t take it anymore," she whispered, her voice breaking. "Everything’s too much. The pain, the loss... I just want it all to end."

Kaden decided to give her some time to calm down. Meanwhile, he started working on the beast meat to satiate his stomach.
