Chapter 104: Arrving at the Academy

Reesa stared at Zora with renewed curiosity. She hadn’t expected this woman in white to be so terrifyingly strong. Even she herself couldn’t match that level of combat power.

"Y-you dare lay a hand on me," Barbara stammered as Zora approached, "and I’ll make sure you can’t survive in Heavenly City!"

The threat barely finished leaving her mouth.

Zora punched forward.

Barbara flew backward like a rag doll. A swift kick followed, and her body was sent tumbling straight out of the inn, landing heavily outside.

"I’ll be waiting," Zora said calmly, her voice devoid of concern.

The weak had no right to threaten the strong.

She then turned to the stunned waiter, gesturing toward the gold coins scattered across the floor. "Use those to compensate for the damaged furniture."

With that, Zora ascended the stairs toward her room.

This time, no one dared to stop her.

Any lingering worries about the inn’s losses vanished instantly. After all, who would dare argue with someone like her?

That was five thousand gold coins!

Let alone a few broken tables and chairs, even if the entire lobby had been torn apart, it would still be more than enough to cover the losses.

Reesa followed Zora up to the second floor and called out, "Miss, wait!"

Zora paused and turned back. "Is there something you need?"

Reesa’s earlier intervention had clearly been driven by her personal feud with Barbara, so Zora hadn’t thought much of it.

Now, however, Reesa’s face was lit with an open, radiant smile. "Hello, my name is Reesa. How about we become friends?"

Seeing the sincerity in her eyes, Zora nodded slightly. "Zora."

"Nice to meet you!" Reesa beamed. "I really like the way you do things. It suits my taste perfectly. From now on, let’s hang out together!"

Zora couldn’t help smiling as well. Reesa was clearly strong, straightforward, and refreshingly unpretentious. Somehow, she found herself liking her too, in the first meeting itself. She indeed likes those people who are straightforward and not too scheming, like his late ex-stepmother and ex-half-sister...

"Alright."

Reesa’s smile grew even brighter, but it quickly collapsed into a sigh. "Heavenly City’s inns are completely packed these days. I was just a step too late, and now there are no rooms left."

"Those idiots are actually planning to sleep in trees with the other cultivators," she muttered. "I’ll just come find you again on the day of the assessment."

Hearing this, Zora spoke up, "In that case, why don’t you stay with me? The room isn’t big, but it’s definitely better than sleeping in a tree."

Reesa’s eyes lit up instantly, then she waved her hands. "No, no, that would be too troublesome. I don’t mind roughing it. My skin’s thick. I can handle it!"

Zora’s lips curved into a wider smile. With Reesa’s striking figure, letting her sleep outside would surely attract more attention than trouble.

"Since we’re already friends, what’s there to trouble about? Stay here."

"Then I’ll be imposing on you," Reesa finally said.

"No trouble at all."

And so, Reesa ended up sharing the room with Zora.

Reesa’s personality was lively and outgoing, and she soon suggested going out to stroll around the city. Zora, however, had no interest. After days of traveling, all she wanted was to cultivate quietly and recover her strength.

Reesa didn’t push the matter and went off alone to explore Heavenly City.

Once she left, Black and White enlarged themselves and sat in front of Zora.

"Master," White asked cautiously, "we don’t know much about this Reesa. Is it really safe to live with her?"

Zora shook her head gently. "She’s a straightforward girl with no deep schemes. She’s sincere. There’s nothing to worry about."

Black and White exchanged glances. Since their master had decided, there was nothing more to say.

Perhaps after everything she had experienced, especially the endless plots of the General’s Estate, Zora had grown overly cautious without realizing it.

She had almost forgotten that they were all just 16 or 17 years old. Not everyone hid layers of intrigue behind their smiles.

It was precisely because of this that she was willing to befriend Reesa.

With someone so genuine, she didn’t need to guard herself or overthink every word.

And that, for once, felt pleasantly simple.

Zora released the white lion from the Ring of Chaos. During the journey these past few days, the little fellow’s body had grown noticeably larger.

She took out a demon crystal and tossed it to Shihtzu. This small creature’s appetite was astonishing. At first, it only needed occasional nourishment, but now it demanded a demon crystal every single day.

Fortunately, she still had plenty of demon crystals on hand. Still, she made a mental note to restock when she had the chance. Otherwise, once this little glutton ran out of food, it would cling to her endlessly.

As for Black and White, since Reesa was now living with her, they could not reveal their true forms. Zora placed them into the Ring of Chaos along with the white lion, letting them stay there for the time being.

Three days passed in the blink of an eye.

During these few days of living together, Zora and Reesa grew much closer, their interactions natural and harmonious.

Meanwhile, Heavenly City became increasingly crowded. More and more cultivators poured in, not only those participating in the assessment, but also many who had come purely to watch. After all, this academy was the sacred ground countless practitioners dreamed of entering.

Early in the morning, Zora and Reesa left the inn together. By the time they arrived at the academy gates, hundreds of people were already lined up.

Zora lifted her gaze toward the entrance.

Above the towering archway, four bold characters were carved with strokes like dragons and phoenixes dancing in the air—

Imperial Academy.

It was said that these words were personally inscribed by the academy’s founding principal, imbued with his comprehension of yuan power. With just a single glance, one could feel an overwhelming sense of pressure and awe.

Zora’s eyes narrowed slightly. Just these four characters alone were enough to reveal the terrifying strength of the academy’s first headmaster.

"The academy assessment finally starts today," Reesa said, excitement and nervousness flickering in her eyes. "I wonder what kind of test it’ll be. Zora, I really hope we can both stay in the academy."

Zora smiled faintly. "With your strength, passing the assessment shouldn’t be a problem."

Just then, a familiar voice called out from the queue.

"Miss Zora!"

"Hmm?" Zora turned around and saw Nigel waving at her from within the line.

His refined features carried an elegant, warm smile. Zora and Reesa walked over to him.

Standing beside Nigel were Philip and Sapphire. Sapphire’s expression was calm as usual, while Philip looked somewhat awkward as their eyes met.

"Zora, did you come to Heavenly City earlier than us?" Nigel asked.

"I arrived three days ago," Zora replied. "I’ve been staying at an inn."

A hint of surprise flashed across Nigel’s eyes. He remembered clearly that she had left later than they did.

"We only arrived yesterday," he said with a smile. "I didn’t expect you to be even faster than us."

Zora smiled in response. Traveling alone was always quicker. With more people came more delays.

"The assessment will start soon," she said. "Good luck. Do your best."

Nigel nodded solemnly. "I won’t waste this chance. I’ll definitely give it everything I have."

"Oh?"

A mocking laugh suddenly rang out.

"Some people really don’t know their own limits. With that kind of aptitude, do they still dream of passing the academy’s assessment? Truly laughable."

Hearing this familiar, unpleasant voice, Reesa’s expression darkened instantly.

Barbara stood not far away, staring at them with undisguised resentment burning in her eyes.

Zora, herself, shook her head, sighing inwardly, "Not again... I’m really tired of going through this trope again and again and again..."
