Reborn As Noble-Chapter 1087: A Hug on His Lap ( )
Delya sat at the main dining room table, alone.
Armand household maids served her food and drink with practiced grace.
"Princess Delya." The maids placed their palms over their left chests and bowed politely before stepping back to stand quietly behind her.
"Thank you." Delya smiled and picked up her fork and knife, slowly cutting into the steak.
She took her first bite and ate slowly, putting down the knife and resting her palm on her cheek, savoring the delicious taste.
Mm~ I love eating this. What Danna-sama calls ’medium rare’ with the special dipping sauce~
She paused and looked at the steak.
Then her eyes drifted to the empty length of the table.
She exhaled softly.
I kinda wish Danna-sama was here with everyone.
I love eating with them around. It makes every meal taste better.
Especially with Mimi always stealing a bite from me, even when she has her own meal.
If Danna-sama starts working every day... will this happen every day?
This loneliness, being alone even with maids serving me...
What’s happening with me?
Back at the castle, I was always alone, and it never bothered me.
Then I visited the Beastkin Kingdom for the first time and met Mimi years ago. We became friends.
And then I met Danna-sama... and he was so handsome. So my type. Now we’ve been together for years.
And I became his official fiancée, we all have his father’s blessing, along with our parents’ approval. We’re not just promised; we’re formally recognized, bound by honor and love.
She took another bite, the taste now tinged with a quiet longing.
One of the maids noticed Delya pausing, looking at her meal.
"Princess Delya?"
"Hmm?" Delya turned and glanced at them. "Yes?"
"Is there anything wrong with the meal? Would you like us to bring something else?"
Delya shook her head with a smile. "Mm... the steak is perfect. I love how it’s cooked, just the right tenderness, with that seared crust and the pink center, exactly the way I like it."
Delya fell silent for a moment before continuing. "But... it tastes better when eaten with everyone."
The maids glanced at each other but didn’t say anything.
Delya lifted her wine glass and drank slowly before continuing to cut the steak into small, neat pieces.
I wonder if Danna-sama has already eaten?
She dabbed her lips with the napkin and smiled, glancing at the maid.
"Has Danna-sama eaten yet?"
The maid bowed politely. "We don’t know, Princess Delya. But food was sent to His Majesty’s office, so we believe Prince Javier has already eaten."
"Oh..." Delya smiled faintly and continued her meal slowly and gracefully.
After a moment, she finished the steak on her plate.
If everyone was here, I’d ask for another round, or even a double portion. But I don’t have much appetite without Danna-sama around.
"Princess Delya? Would you like us to refill your plate?"
Delya smiled and shook her head gently. "Mm... no, I think I’m full already."
The maid came closer and helped dab her lips, and Delya stood gracefully.
"Thank you. I’ll excuse myself." Delya said, beginning to walk out.
Both maids bowed politely as Delya left.
The maids spoke quietly to each other.
"Princess Delya never leaves a plate unfinished... and she never refuses a second serving."
"Yes... she’s been a bit quiet today. Not quite herself."
"Should we tell Lady Francesca after this?"
"I believe we should. Perhaps she’s homesick or not feeling well."
"But Lady Francesca is with His Majesty right now."
"And Mrs. Erinnette is on leave with Sir Alf for two days..."
While in the hallway.
Delya walked slowly.
Perhaps I should meet Danna-sama.
But that butler-looking guy is too serious...
Delya paused, thinking for a moment.
But I’m a princess who just wants to see my future husband.
Delya turned and walked gracefully toward the office.
Once she arrived, she took a deep breath and glanced up at the huge door while the Armand elite guard seated nearby simply watched her.
She raised her hand gracefully and knocked.
The door opened slightly, and Mahira peeked out. "Yes?"
"Is Danna-sama busy? May I see him?"
Mahira smiled. "I’ll ask first, Princess Delya. Could you wait here a moment?"
"Mm... I’ll wait."
Just as Mahira was about to turn, a voice was heard from inside.
"Who is it, Mahira?"
"Your Highness, Princess Delya is here."
"Oh? Let her in."
"You may go in, Princess Delya." Mahira said with a smile.
Delya smiled and nodded, slipping gracefully inside. She noticed Javier seated at the head table, smiling at her.
"Danna-sama..."
Javier smiled again. "Yes, Delya? Do you need something?"
Delya paused and fidgeted slightly.
Javier shook his head gently. "Come here."
Delya smiled faintly and slowly walked toward Javier, noticing Mimi asleep on the long couch nearby.
Delya stopped near his chair. Javier glanced up. "Delya?"
He noticed Delya biting her lower lip, her lips trembling, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
"Delya? What’s wrong?" Javier stood and moved closer to her, wrapping her in a gentle hug and caressing her head.
She pressed her face into his chest, her shoulders shaking as she began to sob softly.
Javier rested his chin on her head.
"Are you hurt?"
Delya shook her head against his chest.
"Are you feeling homesick?"
Delya pressed her face deeper into his chest, still sobbing softly, and shook her head again.
Javier smiled, caressed her back, and pulled her close as he slowly sat back down in his chair, settling her gently on his lap. She kept hugging him tightly, never letting go, her quiet sobs gradually softening.
"There, there... I’m here, I’m here. It’s okay. You can stop crying now."
Delya fell silent but kept holding onto him, her face buried in the curve of his neck.
Sigh. First Mimi, now Delya. Maybe tomorrow, I should let them stay close to me, as long as they promise not to be too loud.
Javier glanced at Varrick.
"Varrick?"
"Yes, Your Highness?"
"Adjust the seating tomorrow. Add an extra-long couch so all my future wives can be present."
"Y... Your Highness?" Varrick looked at Javier, surprised.
"I don’t want any of them crying like this."
Varrick exhaled softly and smiled. "As you command, Your Highness."
