Chapter 231 - Discussion!

"Wow, you're really good at this! At this rate, you'll master Harmes language in no time," Ethan said with a smile, sitting cross-legged on the floor of his dorm room. He was holding a thick old book, his finger pointing at a line of foreign script.

Sitting right across from him was Sasha—Maruti's older sister. She was also sitting cross-legged, her back straight, face serious and blank like always. She gave a small nod.

"I still have time," she replied in a calm but firm voice. "Let's start the next session."

Ethan let out a dry chuckle and scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "No, no... take it easy. You've already studied a lot. Pushing too much might stress your mind. You could end up forgetting the stuff you've already learned."

Sasha's expression changed immediately. Her eyes narrowed and her voice dropped colder.

"So... you're saying I have a bad memory?"

A drop of sweat ran down Ethan's forehead. He quickly shook his head with a nervous smile.

"No! That's not what I—"

Before he could finish, the door suddenly swung open with a loud thud.

"We're coming in!" three cheerful voices echoed together.

Emma, Sylvania, and Violet entered the room, one after another, without waiting for permission. They looked like they were used to barging in.

Ethan almost sagged with relief. Saved at the last second, he thought.

Sasha quietly stood up and moved to sit on the edge of the bed, watching them silently. The three girls casually sat down around Ethan, making themselves comfortable.

Ethan looked around in confusion. "Uh... why are you all here?"

Emma grinned mischievously and leaned forward. "What do you think? Any naughty thoughts?" she whispered in a teasing tone, before suddenly pushing her large chest against Ethan's head.

His face instantly turned red like a tomato. The soft, warm feeling made his brain short-circuit.

"I-I think I should leave," Sasha said suddenly, standing up with a hint of irritation in her tone.

But Violet quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist. "W-Wait! You've got the wrong idea!"

Her cheeks were flushed red from embarrassment. She turned to Emma, her voice sharp but still flustered. "And you! Get off of Ethan! Do you have no shame at all?!"

She tugged Emma away from Ethan and made her sit properly next to her. Emma just giggled with no regrets.

Violet, still blushing, turned to Sylvania and whispered, "Umm... I think you should be the one to explain."

At that moment, Ethan noticed all three girls had serious and slightly worried looks on their faces. The playful mood vanished in an instant.

His smile faded. "Did something happen?" he asked, voice gentle but firm.

The room went quiet for a moment.

Even the air felt heavier.

But then, Sylvania suddenly broke the heavy silence.

"What didn't happen?" she said with a bitter voice. "Do you remember what happened that night? We almost died, Ethan... we barely survived."

Her voice trembled a little as she turned toward Sasha, who was sitting calmly on the bed. "Ms. Sasha... do you know about the dark night in the academy? The tragedy that happened recently?"

Sasha nodded slowly. "Who doesn't know about it? And that's actually the reason I came here," she said, surprising everyone in the room.

Ethan blinked in confusion. "How?" he asked, almost without realizing.

Sasha looked down slightly and took a deep breath before answering. "Mei—Maruti—is the youngest in our family. My father loves her the most. Recently, a serious fight broke out between our tribe and another. We won... but we lost too." Her voice was calm, as usual, but there was a quiet sadness hidden behind her words.

"My brothers... they weren't awakened warriors like me. They were just normal barbarians. They all died. Now it's just me and Mei left."

A soft, heavy silence fell over the room again. No one knew what to say.

"I'm so sorry to hear that," Violet whispered with gentle eyes.

Sasha took another breath and continued, "After my father found out what happened here at the academy, he got scared again. He sent me here to look after Mei, just in case something else happens to her. What a pain...I'm reduced to a babysitter!" She sighed, trying to sound annoyed, but her voice was softer than before.

"So sweet..." Sylvania murmured with a small smile.

"She's actually a good person, despite how she acts," Emma thought to herself, glancing at Sasha with a more thoughtful look.

Ethan also thought the same. "Maruti's family... they must be nice. Her sister seems calm and mature. So why is Maruti always hanging around with someone like Esdeath?" He wondered deeply but didn't have the courage to ask Sasha.

"Wait a second! We got off topic!" Emma suddenly giggled, breaking the serious mood a little.

Sylvania took a deep breath, then clenched her fists and closed her eyes tightly. When she opened them, her voice was loud and filled with emotion.

"We want to be strong! Just like you, Ethan!"She shouted in determination.

Ethan blinked, completely caught off guard. "Huh? What?"

"Don't play dumb!" Sylvania snapped, her voice shaky with frustration. "How did you get so strong, so fast? You're almost as strong as the teachers—or maybe even stronger! There has to be some kind of secret!"

Her voice cracked, and she looked away.

"I was so close to dying... If you hadn't saved me back then, I would've really died..." she whispered.

She remembered that moment clearly—Elara's clone's sword had been just an inch away from slicing her neck. She had frozen in fear. But then Ethan appeared, blocking the attack and saving her life.

"We were too weak," she continued, her voice breaking. "We couldn't do anything. I never want to feel that useless again."

Her body shook slightly, her fists still clenched. That night had left a deep scar in her heart.

Ethan's face turned serious. He looked down, unable to meet anyone's eyes. His mind was full of thoughts and doubts. He wanted to help them—but something held him back. A heavy feeling sat in his chest.

"Why won't you say anything?" Violet asked softly. Then, she bowed her head deeply. "Please, Ethan... I'm begging you. We'll do anything it takes. Please teach us how to get stronger—for the sake of our friendship!"

Ethan quickly raised his hands. "There's no need to beg—"

But he was cut off. All three girls were looking at him with determined eyes.

"You faced death once," Emma said, her usual playful smile gone. Her voice was cold and full of fear. "But I've faced it twice already. And I don't think I'll survive a third time."

But instead of Ethan, Sasha actually replied, "He is not hiding it. It's just that you all are not worthy. It's a very painful process."

"So you know about it too?" Ethan was slightly shocked.

"Of course. And I knew you used it too. I could feel your aura—you were the strongest in the classroom," Sasha replied in a casual tone.

"Painful process?" Violet repeated.

Sasha laid down on the bed and stretched her limbs. "A count's daughter who never really faced harsh sunlight, a baroness who might never have gotten injured before entering the academy, and a high-class merchant's daughter who never felt any real difficulty."

She looked at them with a sly smile. "It's for your own good. Just grow into beautiful ladies, marry off, and have kids. That's your life."

Her words were harsh, but they were mostly true.

"So straightforward! I take my words back!" Ethan added in his heart.

"No matter how painful it is, we'll surely get through it. Our determination is way more than any pain!" Violet clenched her fist, her eyes burning with fire.

"Quit having unrealistic thoughts. You won't be able to endure it," Sasha sighed as she got up from the bed and turned her head to Ethan. "Look back," she said in a casual voice.

Ethan felt confused, but then he saw Sasha take off her tie and start unbuttoning her shirt. His face immediately turned red, and he looked away. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Sasha quickly removed her shirt, leaving only her bra. Her upper body was fully exposed. Strong muscles, a well-shaped body, and sharp abs... but what caught everyone's attention were the scars. Sword wounds, burn marks, and other injuries were all over her body.

Then she turned around and showed her back. There were even more scars on her back. But instead of making her look ugly, they made her look powerful, Dominative and Prideful.

"Just how many death battles has she gone through at such a young age?" Sylvania thought.

After that, without saying a word, Sasha calmly put on her shirt and looked at the three girls again.

"I got wounds almost every day. Some of them couldn't be fully healed even with magic. Even then, I never cried. Not even a single drop of tears came out," she spoke like a fierce warrior.

"But when I used the essence stone for the first time to enhance my strength... it was so painful that I cried buckets that day!" Sasha said. "Forget about that pain—can any of you even show a single scar on your body?"

They all looked at each other and then looked down. No one could meet her eyes.

"Stop having unrealistic thoughts. It's for your own good," she said again and sat down on the bed, turning her face away.

Ethan took a deep breath and tried to explain. "Actually, some rare essence stones can increase your body's stamina, speed, strength, and other abilities. But it's a painful process. You have to keep your body balanced, or you body will not be able to withstand it. You have to enhance your muscles, bones, tendons, skin—all of it. But doing that feels like your bones are getting crushed. You feel like scratching your own skin off, like something is tearing you from inside. You have to stay awake during it, even when it feels like hell."

He paused, looking serious.

"And if you faint during the process, you'll have to start over from the beginning."

He looked at each of them.

"And sometimes, if you fail, it doesn't just stop. It might damage your body permanently or give you horrible side effects."

Silence filled the room.

No one spoke. After hearing the harsh truth from Ethan's mouth, the room fell into silence. The air felt heavy. Doubts began crawling into their hearts like cold shadows.

Will we really be able to do it?

That question echoed in each of their minds.

But then, Violet suddenly gritted her teeth and clenched her fists tightly. Her voice broke the silence.

"I'm ready!" she declared with burning eyes.

"What?! Think it through!" Ethan tried to stop her.

"I don't care!" Violet shouted back. "I'm ready to take the risk. And it's not like I'm doing it right now, right? You both can guide me... tell me what to expect, help me prepare for the pain. I believe I can do it. I want to be useful. I have to be useful in the future!"

She said all of that in one breath, her cheeks flushed and her heart pounding.

"Me too!" Sylvania said firmly as she stood up. "I'll stop being a delicate noble lady from today!"

"Count me in too!" Emma added with a determined voice.

Sasha looked at their faces—eyes full of determination, fire, and a bit of fear hidden underneath. She let out a long sigh, flipping to the other side of the bed and turning her back to them.

"I hate it when people start thinking they're the chosen ones," she muttered under her breath. Her eyes closed, but she wasn't asleep.

"But... that still leaves the question," Ethan said quietly, "Where do we even get the essence stones?"

"I can get them from my system", he thought, "but it's only enough for me. Even then, I need to collect them from monsters or win some competitions to earn more."

Sylvania sat back down, looking frustrated. "I'm a count's daughter, yes. But I'm also the fifth child. My father barely notices me. Sure, I get a decent allowance... but not enough for something like this. And if he finds out I'm spending money on dangerous things, he might even cut me off completely..."

They weren't like Esdeath, who got her hands on Trynne's treasure and loads of essence stones to grow stronger. And they definitely weren't like Lortell Mariette—the current Archduke's daughter, born with power and privilege.

This world was still stuck somewhere like medieval Europe—just a bit more advanced. Women had some rights, yes, but still... they were mostly treated as pawns. Assets to be married off and used for political gain. Even though awakened girls were allowed to attend the academy, most families didn't expect much from them.

If Sylvania's family found out what she was trying to do, they would surely scold her. Maybe even punish her.

Violet wasn't in a better position either. She was a baron's daughter—poorer than Sylvania. And she had already spent a lot of her own money just to pay Ethan's academy fees.

Emma was no different. None of them had jobs. None of them had the money or power to get the essence stones they needed.

"Where do we get it...?" Violet sighed, her voice small and hopeless.

Just as the mood in the room dropped into despair, a sudden voice echoed like a gentle breeze cutting through the heavy air.

"I'll give you."

It was a cold voice, but somehow comforting... like snow falling under a moonlit sky.

Everyone in the room turned toward the door—except Sasha, who stayed still on the bed.

There stood a girl with silver hair that shimmered with a soft blue tint, like moonlight reflecting on calm water. Her eyes were deep and calm, like the ocean. Her skin looked smooth and pale, almost like porcelain. She wasn't smiling... but she wasn't frowning either.

"Cassandra?"
