Chapter 732: Chapter 732: Princess Seraphina

All people from Crux arrive with one or two of their slaves following them and Princess Seraphina was the only one whose slave did not look like one.

Seraphina treated them more like maids and butlers than slaves. They looked healthy and did not have any shackles or collars and followed her freely.

Meanwhile, other people who came from Crux had slaves that looked troubled and they had shackles on their arms and feet and a collar on their neck to prevent them from escaping. It did not have chains but was said to immobilize them with a sedative once they tried to leave.

It was painful to look at but since slavery was still legal in other kingdoms, everyone simply looked away.

Thankfully, with the implementation of the abolition of slavery all over Eliora, slaves would no longer be allowed to be brought into Medeus for the next General Assembly and slavery would gradually be stopped and prohibited in the continent.

Just the thought that Prudencians were treated in such a manner was infuriating.

A letter from the King of Crux was what they were waiting for and not from the Princess. Likewise, it had to be something addressed to Ferdinand.

What did a princess from Crux have to say to Arabella during these times when conflict had been brewing and ready to erupt.

Arabella took a deep breath before she read the letter.

***

To Her Imperial Majesty,

Empress Arabella Lobelius Valeria

I hope this letter reaches you in good condition. I could not write and send it directly due to the situation so I had to send it this way. I hope you do not mind its humble appearance.

It had been a while since we last spoke to each other and I am glad I saw you in Medeus again.

I had always been a silent admirer of Your Majesty ever since I heard about you. You had achieved so much for Lobelius instead of wasting your time punishing some slaves like some of my siblings had been doing.

I am even more astonished to hear that Your Majesty was the reason why the illegal slave trade between Prudencia and Crux was revealed and finally stopped.

I wrote this letter to Your Majesty with regards to this.

I was in a neighboring country when I received a letter from my father to not go back home to Crux yet due to an impending war.

I heard about the deadline His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Ferdinand Valeria has set on Crux to return all Prudencians to the Empire in a week.

I fully understand His Imperial Majesty’s decision given the time Valeria had already allowed. My father does too but our family and our subjects are divided.

Some nobles are urging those who have not returned the people they were keeping. Meanwhile, other nobles did not want to yield and insisted on keeping them.

A lot of the nobles are prideful since they had never gone out of Crux and do not understand the might of Valeria.

But my father, me, and my twin do. I had been urging my father to return all the Prudencians but his words fell on deaf ears as more nobles were in favor of keeping them; The Queen and siblings among them.

My world used to be limited to what I know in Crux until I was sent to attend the Yearly Assemblies in Medeus.

I thought my twin brother and I were the weird ones in Crux. But when we were exposed outside of the kingdom, we realized we were the closest to what most people consider as normal.

Most royalties did not have any slaves like my family did and people were not sold for a single coin.

It was a shocking revelation to us that Crux and other kingdoms who still had slavery were the ones who are different from the rest of the continent.

We thought the world existed with the hierarchy we had right from the start.

A lot of the nobles in Crux are also unaware of this fact since we usually only travel to kingdoms who had slavery as well since it was where we could bring them.

Thus, everyone thought every other kingdom existed just like Crux.

When we were young my twin brother and I were victims of an assassination attempt where we lost our biological mother.

We managed to live thanks to the mercy of a slave who clothed us in commoner clothing and escaped with us. We lived as commoners for a year and had experienced the fear of possibly getting captured as a slave and sold.

It was a terrible feeling.

We realized it was so hard and cruel to live in such a manner.

When we were found by my mother’s family and returned to the palace, we advocated for better treatment for slaves.

It worked to some extent but a lot of people disregarded it and thought of us as sullied by the upbringing our savior had given us.

Still, my brother and I gathered supporters with the help of my mother’s family who were among the powerful houses in the kingdom. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Some nobles in Crux had also been treating their slaves well. My brother and I did our best to enlighten them by suggesting they visit Medeus or other neighboring kingdoms that had no slavery.

They were as shocked as we were when they realized Crux was the one that was different.

We finally realized why our trade partners were limited to kingdoms with slaves. It was so we would not realize we were the ones who were different from the rest of the world.

Over the years, we had gathered more support from the people and since war seems to be inescapable this time since most nobles were insistent on keeping Prudencians, I and my brother wish to save as many lives as we could among our people.

I understand that Crux has wronged Valeria. But I hope Your Majesty understands that all nobles in Crux were raised this way.

Some were aware we were different but some were not. And we wish to save as many lives as we could for the sake of those who believed we could change too.
