Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress-Chapter 712: I Will Miss You
"I am the one who is grateful I can rely on you," Ferdinand squeezed her hand and gave it another kiss.
"I’m your wife and the Empress of Valeria. It is my job to step up when you are busy," Arabella smiled. She got up from the bed and put on a coat. "Is there anything in particular that you would like me to focus on during the Court Sessions?"
They headed to Ferdinand’s study and discussed it for a few minutes. Ferdinand listed things she would need to watch out for. He also made an edict appointing Arabella as his representatives so that the ruling households would not belittle her or try to say she had no right to be the one attending the Court Sessions since she was from a foreign land.
Though they would soon be married for a year and Arabella was already recognized by a lot of the ministers, the ruling households and other nobles might turn around their attitude once Ferdinand was not by her side.
They could like her as Ferdinand’s wife but not as someone who rules Valeria with him so they might not respect her voice.
Thus, Ferdinand’s edict was important in case someone dared to question her authority to be the one officiating the Court Sessions that involved a lot of sensitive matters and decisions.
"...That’s all for now," Ferdinand concluded after he briefed her and gave her updates she needed to know about the most recent events.
[I miss her so much but here we are talking about work instead. I want to hold her close but I might not be able to hold back. Am I the only one feeling this way? Does she not miss me in those hours we did not see each other?]
’What does he mean he was the only one? I am holding back too.’
It made her happy to hear that he also missed her a lot.
Ferdinand eyed her with longing but simply said, "I’ll escort you back to your room. You should continue resting. It’s still early."
’Should I hug him? But he’s trying to keep some space between us so he could hold back,’ Arabella wondered as he led her back to her room.
’But what if he couldn’t hold back?’
She knew why he had to hold back so much. Just a hug could make his sensitive senses go wild.
It was hard to sate him when his hunger takes control. And he was already fully dressed and ready to head back to Sibruh.
He had a task he had to do so Arabella did not want to ruin his focus.
It felt wrong to break his resolve when he was trying to control himself. Yet somehow, she was so tempted to break it.
Before Arabella could decide, they reached her door. Ferdinand opened it for her and ushered her in. He walked her until her inner chambers but did not enter where her bed was fearing he would give in to his desires and push her down the bed.
[I want to kiss her but I can’t.]
Arabella gulped upon hearing such thoughts. She wanted that too. She glanced at Ferdinand’s lips and gulped.
"!!!"
Ferdinand noticed and was wide-eyed.
[Did she just want me to kiss her?]
He gulped at the thought.
[No. I must be imagining things. I should go before I lose myself.]
"I need to go. Stay safe," Ferdinand said and turned his back.
"Okay. Please take care," Arabella replied and Ferdinand finally began walking away from her. But for some reason his steps were so much slower than they used to be.
One step.
Two Steps.
Three steps...
Arabella’s heart pounded her chest. She realized she hated watching him walk away from her.
The last time she watched him leave, he did not return for months and she did not even know if he was doing well or not.
Arabella gulped when she recalled the terrible feeling she had when she was here all alone not knowing when he would be back or if he ever would.
’What if he doesn’t return so much longer than we thought again?!’
She was suddenly filled with fear at the realization. And the more steps he walked away, the more she felt nervous. She was counting his steps too.
...Seventh.
Eight.
Ninth.
Tenth.
’Just a few minutes. I just need a few minutes more of his time.’
Unable to push away the fearful thoughts in her mind, Arabella decided she needed to give Ferdinand a tight hug and receive one from him as well.
Just when Arabella called out his name, Ferdinand suddenly stopped walking, turned around and also called her out.
"Ferdinand!"
"Arabella!"
They ended up saying each other’s name and were wide-eyed as they stared at each other’s eyes.
Ferdinand began walking to her and Arabella eagerly did as well. She needed to give him a hug. No. Not just that. She didn’t care anymore even if he lost control.
What if she doesn’t see him for months again? She needed to give him as much love as she could and make sure he never forgets she’s here waiting for him.
They met in a few steps with Ferdinand’s huge strides quickly reaching her.
Their gazes met and the next second, they were wrapped in each other’s arms.
Arabella held him as tight as she could and loved his tight embrace even when she could barely breathe.
She closed her eyes and reveled in it, listening to his raging heartbeat.
"I will miss you," Ferdinand said and kissed her head.
"I will too," Arabella replied as she held him even tighter.
Ferdinand loosened his hold and cupped her face, tilting her chin so their gaze would meet, "Can you say that again?"
Arabella smiled knowing he heard it clearly but just wanted to hear it again.
"I’ll miss you too. I’ll miss you very much," she no longer held back.
Ferdinand’s eyes sparkled in delight and bent down to kiss her.
