Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 273: New Airdrop [1]
After taking his time to celebrate the construction of the Bulwark MK.II Titan Frame, finishing the expensive wine alone in the process, the exhaustion of working without much rest for so many days finally set in.
Leon yawned. ’I truly deserve the sleep this time’.
Without hesitation, he went to the bathroom in one of his living quarters where he had a cold bath before retreating to his comfy bed for the night.
He enjoyed a long and dreamless sleep.
...
The next morning...
VROOM!
The loud rumbling sound of a revving engine reverberated as a truck moved across the wasteland, leaving a long trail of dust in its wake.
This was a modified version of the Light-armored Transport Truck, the longest-serving blueprint in Leon’s repertoire that he didn’t attempt to craft in months since getting it.
The Light-armored Transport Truck was one of the blueprints that he got due to his work in the Big Gig Construction Company during his first Ascended Trial.
As an E Rank Mechanist, Leon knew that constructing the Truck was going to take him weeks, time that he didn’t have.
Also, constructing such a Truck required money.
But now, as a D Rank Mechanist, he got the money for the Truck through more loans from Leviathan Quay and delegated the construction work to his System after modifying the blueprint.
The ChronoSystem fully constructed this Truck within just 3 days despite the other work that it was swarmed with.
This was one of the benefits of having a fully-autonomous System that unlike humans had no concept of tiredness or rest.
The ChronoSystem was always active so long as Leon had ADE.
This Truck was a military-grade utility vehicle that was once lightweight, rugged, and built for war zones. It still was, but Leon had modified and rebuilt it into something more practical with the help of the System.
The current modified Truck had a reinforced suspension, sand-filtered intakes, thick run-flat tires wrapped in armored tread, external cargo racks and two hooks that lined the side of the truck like ribs.
After the construction, Leon gave the Truck a name, he called it Mad Max.
He didn’t know what gave him the inspiration for the name, but just thinking about it felt cool so he named it that.
Mad Max’s engine hummed steadily as it rolled over cracked earth and scattered debris.
The driver seated on the wheel of the Truck was no human though, the driver was a humanoid assistant robot- Butler.
Leon constructed Butler with Construction Protocol early this morning with the help of the ChronoSystem. The humanoid robot embodied his vision of a Butler Robot that he could delegate work to who would also take care of his shelter when he was not around.
The robot’s frame was built with quality alloys and precision-machined components, it was a perfect work of Construction and Nanofabrication.
Its design was practical rather than elegant with matte metal plating over a compact mechanical skeleton, and with servo joints exposed in places where armor would only be cumbersome and slow movement.
Its humanoid head that was like Synths had a narrow sensor visor glowing faint blue as it scanned the horizon. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Its head had artificial black hair that could change into any color it wanted.
Inside its chest, there was a compact processor core which constantly evaluated terrain, signals, and incoming flight telemetry.
Butler was Davis’s current main autonomous vessel.
Butler’s job this morning was to go collect the next airdrop batch on behalf of his master, simply because his master was avoiding someone.
The time was- [09:31am]
Within 2 more minutes of driving, the drop site soon came into view- a wide stretch of barren ground surrounded by collapsed towers and half-buried concrete slabs of a long-forgotten era.
Butler brought Mad Max to a controlled stop in the center of the clearing, then he waited inside.
For more than 3 minutes, the wasteland was quiet but then the air suddenly began to vibrate.
And then it came.
WHOOSH!
A deep, distant roar quickly built into a thunderous scream as a high-speed jet streaked across the sky.
The Geneforge Clan aircraft flashed overhead like a blade of light, moving so fast it seemed almost surreal as four objects detached from its belly.
Instead of 1, there were 4 crates this time.
The airdrop crates fell in staggered formation. Mid-air, their stabilizing fins deployed as guidance systems corrected their descent.
Small retro-thrusters fired moments before impact with the ground, kicking up clouds of dust as each crate landed with heavy thuds across the clearing.
And then the jet was gone before the echoes faded.
For a moment, only drifting dust filled the air but Butler didn’t move yet as if he was waiting for something.
Well, he was right to wait because another sound approached.
Tutututututututu...!
The low rhythmic chop of rotor blades grew louder as a helicopter swept in over the ridge line, descending carefully toward the drop zone and kicking up spiraling clouds of sand as it settled onto the ground several meters away from the crates.
The exchange had begun.
With calm and confident steps, Butler finally stepped out of the truck.
He wore a familiar all-black attire with a hood that covered most of his body, hiding his features.
He moved with efficient precision, crossing to the rear cargo compartment of the Truck where several sealed containers waited. This was the result of the work that his master had been busy with for days.
Each container bore reinforced locking clamps and encoded identification plates of different weapons and constructs.
Each container had identification.
[Modified C-5 Drones]
[Flux Crystal Spears]
[Jury-rigged Bombs]
[QX-07 Air Guns]
[Smoke Grenades & Chemical Grenades]
[Pad Boosters]
[R9 Energy Shields]
There was a price to be paid for the huge amount of debt that Leon was deep in with Leviathan Quay, and this was part of the price.
Of course, he held back some of his core blueprints but to settle his debt, he didn’t mind becoming a weapon supplier for Leviathan Quay.
Afterall, they were his allies.
Each weapon here was built piece by piece in the secret underground workshop by the mechanic who refused to leave his shelter today.
Butler carried 2 containers at a time as he moved across the clearing in steady trips while the helicopter crew rolled out receiving pallets.
2 unfamiliar soldiers of the Gene Army came down, then 4, then 6, and then a 7th soldier came down.
The 7th soldier was a familiar face, Sergeant Tyla!
