Hearing the somewhat familiar voice, Lian Manman frowned slightly. Originally, she didn’t intend to pay any attention, but the person speaking was not self-aware and had come over, stopping the three girls with a sycophantic smile.

The person who came was Yingzi’s father.

Ever since Yingzi’s father publicly declared Song Hailong as his son-in-law that day, causing embarrassment for Song Hailong and receiving a kick in return, he hadn’t gone out for quite some time. It was unclear whether the Song Family had sent someone to "enlighten" him, or if he had been injured by the kick.

So this was the first time Lian Manman had seen him again since that day.

During the New Year, it seemed Yingzi’s father had just shaved, looking cleaner than usual, and dressed quite decently. Lian Manman glanced at his blue cotton robe. Although far inferior to Song Hailong’s sunflower-colored robe, it seemed well beyond what Yingzi’s family could afford. Furthermore, the robe didn’t even fit Yingzi’s father well.

Lian Manman couldn’t help but speculate: Could this robe have come from Yingzi’s father’s "new son-in-law"?

Regardless, just hearing the words Yingzi’s father had spoken earlier confirmed one thing—he already knew about Lian Shouren and his daughter Yingzi’s affair. Old Master Lian had written letters to his two sons in Thirty Mile Camp but made no mention of the matter, clearly not considering it respectable. Lian Shouren likely had no interest in dealing with this new "father-in-law." Based on the robe, Yingzi’s father hadn’t merely heard rumors; Yingzi must have deliberately relayed the news to him.

Lian Manman held her forehead in disbelief. What was this behavior? Shamelessness as a form of invincibility? Yingzi let herself go—getting kicked off one bed and immediately climbing onto the next. Yingzi’s father let himself go as well, being rejected by one son-in-law and then clinging to another.

This chaos was theirs to sort out however they liked. Lian Manman had no interest in getting involved. But for him to proactively attempt to establish ties with her was utterly preposterous!

"Grandniece, is your father home?" Yingzi’s father asked Lian Manman.

"Spit." Lian Manman, clearly annoyed, naturally showed no courtesy to Yingzi’s father. "Who are you? Open your eyes, recognize whom you’re speaking to before you start calling names. What a thick-skinned face; aren’t you worried you might shorten your life?"

"If you want to act elder, do that in your own house. It’s New Year’s—what are you looking for trouble for?" Lian Yeye ranted as well.

Only Lian Zhizhi, with her gentle disposition, while upset, didn’t have the heart to spit out harsh words.

"That man’s out of his mind, trying to claim relatives with everyone he meets. Let’s just go about our business and ignore him," said Lian Manman.

The reputation of Yingzi’s family, thanks to Yingzi, had long been disgraced throughout Thirty Mile Camp. Lian Manman felt that even talking to Yingzi’s father was disgusting and didn’t want to engage further with him here. If by some chance people gathered to watch, Yingzi’s father would inevitably become a laughingstock again. Given their clean-standing as young girls, it wasn’t worth it.

So Lian Manman led Lian Zhizhi and Lian Yeye around Yingzi’s father, heading directly toward Er Ya’s house.

Er Ya wasn’t seriously ill, just caught a cold during the New Year celebrations and had already recovered mostly after drinking some herbal remedies for dispersing cold. Her grandmother and parents, worried that she might catch a chill again if she went outside, had insisted she stay indoors.

Er Ya was ecstatic to see them arrive and greeted them to sit on the kang. Wu Yuchang’s wife also came over from another room, bringing roasted peanuts and crispy sunflower seeds for them to snack on.

"You girls play; I still have guests in the other room, so I won’t be keeping you company," Wu Yuchang’s wife told them before leaving.

Er Ya’s grandmother was chatting with visitors in the other room, so the four girls were alone in theirs.

"Yeye, what’s wrong? You look so upset," Er Ya said. Being straightforward herself, she immediately noticed Lian Yeye’s frustration.

Lian Yeye didn’t reply, first glancing at Lian Manman for permission.

"On our way here, we ran into Yingzi’s father," Lian Manman explained.

This was undoubtedly old news by now, with gossip spreading far and wide. People only refrained from mentioning it in front of Lian Manman’s family out of consideration for their reputation. Given their friendly relations with the Wu Family, discussing it here posed no issue.

"Oh," Er Ya responded. "How did Yingzi end up like that? She’s truly shameless. My mom and the others were gossiping about it—they all said that her entire family has completely discarded any sense of shame."
