Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 62 - 36 Family Law_2
"You, are you rebelling?" Lian Shouren was infuriated with embarrassment.
"Eldest, you stand there and don’t move." Old Master Lian commanded Lian Shouren.
Lian Shouren didn’t know what Old Master Lian was planning, and seeing Lian Shouxin dare to fight back, knowing he would not come off better, he took his place.
"Old Fourth’s wife, you strike him hard across the face like you did just now," Old Master Lian ordered Lady Zhang.
Everyone was stunned.
"Old Master, have you gone mad? Our eldest is on the path to becoming an official. How can you allow a countrywoman, and a younger brother’s wife at that, to strike him in the face?" Lady Zhou said discontentedly.
Old Master Lian glared at Lady Zhou.
Lady Zhang, tender-hearted, had already stepped out of line in her anger by striking Lady Gu. To now be asked to hit Lian Shouren was too much; despite her deep loathing for him, her gentle nature made it difficult for her to raise her hand.
"Old Fourth’s wife is weak and lacks strength. It won’t be satisfying even if she hits. Old Fourth, you do it," Old Master Lian considered for a moment, then addressed Lian Shouxin.
"Father, what are you doing? If they hit me, how will I show my face in public in the future?" Lian Shouren’s brow drooped as he complained to Old Master Lian.
"Had you known this day would come, why did you do it in the first place?" Old Master Lian said, "You want to show your face in public, then endure it. Otherwise, I’ll let Manman and the kids hit you, and you’ll lose even more face."
"Father, how can you be so biased towards Old Fourth?" Lian Xiuxiu complained.
"You shut your mouth," Old Master Lian said without even looking at Lian Xiuxiu, "Old Fourth, when I tell you to do it, you do it."
Was Old Master Lian finally going to administer justice?
Lian Manman thought it over and quickly understood. Old Master Lian had seen the world and likely guessed the truth of the matter.
But Old Master Lian did not mention the fact that Lian Shouren had wanted to trade her life for money, nor did he question Lian Shouren about it. Now he was telling Lady Zhang and Lian Shouxin to hit Lian Shouren.
Lian Shouxin clenched his fist but did not move for a long while.
He hit Lian Shouren, and Lian Shouren fought back—that was a natural human response. But standing here, Lian Shouren didn’t dare hit him. Had Lian Shouxin truly been a ferocious man, he wouldn’t have spoken to him upon entering. He would have sought justice from Old Master Lian or started fighting straight away.
Thinking this, Lian Shouren felt somewhat smug, and it showed on his face.
"I’ll do it," Lian Shouxin said abruptly after a long silence.
"Old Fourth, you really dare to hit me?" Lian Shouren still disbelieved.
"Even if Father hadn’t spoken, I would have hit you today," Lian Shouxin stated.
Since returning from the town, he had come to understand the truth. He still harbored a slight hope, wishing Lian Shouren would produce some solid evidence to convince him otherwise. But Lian Shouren’s rebuttals were too weak, too evasive. His sliver of hope was shattered. Then he had hoped Lian Shouren would have a change of heart and admit his wrongdoing. But Lian Shouren did nothing but deny everything, without even a hint of remorse.
He had completely lost hope in his elder brother.
"Eldest brother, what you’ve done is dishonorable." As Lian Shouxin spoke, he threw a punch at Lian Shouren’s face. When men fought, it was nothing like women fighting; Lian Shouxin’s punch was full-strength. Lian Shouren was knocked back several steps, his nose almost crooked, and blood gushed out immediately. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Several women in the room screamed.
"Old Fourth, you...harsh," Lian Shouren stuttered.
"This punch is for my daughter," Lian Shouxin said in a wooden voice.
Old Master Lian sat on the kang, his hand trembling slightly.
"Old Fourth, save your elder brother some face...for the sake of me and your mother."
Old Master Lian did not stop Lian Shouxin, to Lian Shouren’s disappointment.
By this time, Lian Shouxin had already thrown a second punch, landing it on Lian Shouren’s chest.
"This punch is for the mother of my child," Lian Shouxin declared.
Lian Shouren clutched his chest with one hand and wiped his face with the other, smearing blood all over, which made him look extremely terrifying. He leaned against the edge of the kang bed and pleaded with Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou in a pitiful voice, "Father, Mother, Old Fourth is going to kill me..."
"Old Master, you’ve truly gone mad. Old Fourth, just because your father tells you to hit your elder brother, you do it? Do you have no regard for your mother? Even if your elder brother did something wrong, he didn’t harm you. Are you turning against your brother over a mere maid? Has that unworthy woman given you some sort of love potion or what..."
"Are those the words of a human being?" Old Master Lian glared at Lady Zhou.
Only then did Lady Zhou realize she had gone too far with her words.
"Continue to hit." Old Master Lian turned to Lian Shouxin and said.
"Mother, the maid you mentioned is my own dear daughter, your own granddaughter."
Lian Shouxin clenched his fist and was about to hit Lian Shouren again.
"Mother, save me, Mother..." Lian Shouren began to wail.
Lady Zhou, in a frantic and seemingly inspired moment, made a gurgling sound in her throat and fell backwards stiffly.
"Her chronic illness has flared up again, she’s passed out!" Lian Huahua immediately shouted loudly.
Lian Xiuxiu and Lady Gu rushed onto the kang bed and embraced Lady Zhou, starting to weep bitterly.
Lian Shouxin clenched his fists.
"You do your thing, you know what your mother’s temper is like," Old Master Lian said without so much as glancing at Lady Zhou.
Lian Shouxin, of course, knew that Lady Zhou’s trump card was feigning illness. Under normal circumstances, even if he knew Lady Zhou was perfectly fine, he would have taken into consideration her feelings and would not have carried on hitting. But the words Lady Zhou had just uttered had chilled his heart.
Lian Shouxin threw another punch, this time hitting Lian Shouren in the stomach.
Lian Shouren doubled over in pain, crying out in agony.
"This punch, I threw it myself. Elder brother, I am your own flesh and blood..." After hitting this punch, Lian Shouxin crouched on the ground and began to sob.
Lian Shouren, feeling both shame and pain, turned his back to the wall. Seeing that no one paid any attention to her, Lady Zhou’s illness immediately improved.
"Old Fourth, don’t stop, you still have my share and your mother’s to deal with," Old Master Lian said.
Lian Shouxin wiped away his tears and stood up.
"Father, let’s not hit him anymore," Lian Shouxin said. He had never been one to be cruel or ruthless. Aside from mock fights with friends during his childhood, he hadn’t physically fought with anyone since he grew up.
Lian Shouxin had grown soft-hearted as well.
Old Master Lian sighed deeply.
"All of you brothers and sisters sit down, I have something to say."
