Reborn as a Landlord-Chapter 1450 - 738: The Right Moment
Second watch, asking for pink votes.
Early in the morning, Lian Manman saw snowflakes falling outside the window, and her thoughts immediately took flight. This was the first snowfall of winter this year, quite precious indeed. She quickly washed up, put on the Lotus-root Pink Jacket and Skirt brought by Xiao Xi, then hurriedly ran outside to watch the snow.
Xiao Qi had also gotten up early. Now that Mr. Loo had left and Wu Lang was not at home, Lady Zhang and Lian Shouxin would not permit Xiao Qi to sleep in the front courtyard’s study room anymore, instead keeping their youngest son in the east room of the backyard.
Having Xiao Qi accompany them during the day and holding this white, chubby, and plump youngest son at night greatly eased the couple’s longing for their eldest son.
"Sister," Xiao Qi, dressed like a little cotton bun, with a snow hat on his head, was running wildly in the courtyard. Seeing Lian Manman come out, he called and ran over.
His body still held a childlike charm, perhaps it was his closeness with Da Pang and Second Fatty, and like the two large dogs, loved jumping on people.
Lian Manman caught the little cotton bun Xiao Qi as he pounced, her mouth twitching slightly. Xiao Qi seemed to have gained some weight again, but his height hadn’t noticeably increased recently.
According to the Inner Canon of Huangdi, boys grow in cycles of eight years, thus they develop later than girls their age, but at a certain age, they grow rapidly. Xiao Qi had just passed the eight-year cycle, still far from the peak of the second growth cycle. Meanwhile, Lian Manman was close to reaching this peak period. Therefore, Xiao Qi’s height can’t compare to Lian Manman’s right now.
But, perhaps in another two years, Xiao Qi would be taller and stronger than her.
With somewhat complex emotions, Lian Manman reached out her hands, pinching Xiao Qi’s cheeks and kneading them firmly.
Xiao Qi’s face was squished like a misshapen meat bun by Lian Manman. While feeling wronged, he glared and struggled without much force. The siblings laughed and played under the veranda, attracting Lady Zhang and Lian Shouxin’s attention, who came out upon hearing them.
"It’s just you two, no decorum at all, causing a ruckus early in the morning!" Lady Zhang’s scolding was laced with a smile, and her gaze upon the siblings was filled with love.
In the meantime, Zhang Caiyun and Lian Zhizhi accompanied Lady Li outside to watch the snow. Lian Manman let go of Xiao Qi, allowing him to run over to snuggle with Lady Li. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Dad, how’s the snow?" Lian Manman asked Lian Shouxin.
The snowflakes were sparse and not thick. Lian Manman hoped for a heavier snowfall, or perhaps for it to last longer. Her family’s winter wheat needed a thick layer of snow.
"Hard to say." Lian Shouxin looked up at the sky, then down at the thin layer of snow on the ground and said.
"I think this snow is a good sign. After this, expect a heavy snowfall." Lady Li chimed in.
In Thirty Mile Camp, snow wasn’t scarce throughout the years, so Lian Manman wasn’t too worried. Hearing Lady Li say this, she was naturally happy. Lian Shouxin also felt his mother-in-law’s words made sense.
The family was watching the snow and chatting under the veranda when Xiao Qing entered from outside and approached Lian Manman, appearing hesitant to speak.
"Is there something?" Knowing Xiao Qing well from long association, Lian Manman asked.
"Miss, I’m not sure if I should say." Xiao Qing, looking eager to speak, said.
"Then just say it, seeing you like this, if you’re not allowed to say, you might burst." Lian Manman laughed and replied.
"... It’s about the old house; something happened." Xiao Qing whispered to Lian Manman, "Xiao An, who came to deliver tofu just now, mentioned it."
"What’s the matter?" Lian Shouxin, with sharp ears, heard and turned to ask.
Before Xiao Qing could continue, Lian Yeye arrived. Having rushed over, Lian Yeye’s face was flushed and warm, clearly indicating an urgent matter.
Soon, the Lian Manman family learned that there was trouble with an arranged marriage at the old house. The Zhou family’s father and daughter refused to leave the old house, and as it was daylight, the commotion became widely known in the neighborhood.
Lian Shouxin promptly sent someone to inquire further, eventually gathering all the information, leaving everyone bewildered.
This issue didn’t start this morning but was known to those near the old house last night. Although Lady Zhou’s midnight rants were something the neighbors were accustomed to and dismissed, things at the old house, no matter how heated, never involved physical confrontations. Generally, only Lady Zhou and Old Master Lian’s voices could be heard. But last night’s ruckus was too loud, with unfamiliar female voices mixed in.
