Chapter 1387: Chapter 707: The Dowry Dispute (Part 3)

"You think I’d be willing to go there!" Lian Shouxin said with a helpless smile.

"Dad, if you go over there, can you handle it?" Lian Manman asked Lian Shouxin.

"What’s there to handle or not handle, everything’s out in the open, they’re just causing trouble for no reason!" Lian Shouxin replied.

"Even my dad says they’re just causing trouble." Lian Manman chuckled, "Dad, you should go, let them calm down. Otherwise, if it blows up, it’ll be bad if my grandma finds out."

Even though it was clear that the people from the old house were causing trouble, Lian Shouxin still had to go and clarify things, try to pacify them. Because he couldn’t let the Zhang family take the blame, especially since Zhang Caiyun was going to marry into town, and it involved the Zheng family.

"You can’t let down your relatives." Lian Shouxin remarked.

Lian Shouxin was no longer the same person he used to be, and since he realized this, Lian Manman felt relieved. Therefore, she only sent Steward Han Zhong with a servant to accompany Lian Shouxin, while she and Lady Zhang returned to the house to wait for news.

"Is something going on with Yeye’s household?" Lady Li asked when she saw Lady Zhang and Lian Manman return while Lian Shouxin went out again.

"It’s something at the old house, the old couple got into a fight, so I got the kids’ father to go and mediate." Lady Zhang replied.

Compared to Lian Shouxin, Lady Zhang had no qualms about mentioning the fight between Old Master Lian and Lady Zhou.

"Those two, bickering and squabbling their whole lives, being harmonious is also a lifetime thing." Lady Li mused, "Once an argument begins, there will always be another, and once you’re used to fighting, there’s no peace for life."

Lian Manman thought to herself, Lady Zhou and Old Master Lian really were used to fighting.

"You all remember, once you’re married, no matter what happens, don’t argue, always discuss things well. Especially right after getting married, if you fight, then every time something comes up, it’ll surely turn into a fight." Lady Li finished her musings and turned to her granddaughter and several grandsons and granddaughters.

This was marital advice, leaving Zhang Caiyun and Lian Zhizhi a bit embarrassed, while Wu Lang lowered his head silently, and only Lian Manman and Xiao Qi were secretly giggling, one with her mouth covered, the other laughing out loud.

Lady Li knew her little grandchildren weren’t laughing at her; they were just young and mischievous, so she smiled and pulled them into her embrace.

"Remember what your grandma said, you’ll understand when you grow up." Lady Li said lovingly.

Lady Li and Zhang Qingshan had hardly ever argued in their lifetime, and neither had Lady Zhang and Lian Shouxin. Even someone as bold as Lady Zhang Wang lived peacefully and in agreement with Zhang Qingnian. Lian Manman thought that Lady Li’s advice was indeed valuable.

At Lian Manman’s family, everyone was talking harmoniously, but at the old house, it was a completely different scene.

When Lian Shouxin and Lian Shouli arrived at the old house’s entrance, the group of people Lian Shouli had mentioned had already dispersed. As they pushed open the gate and walked in, they didn’t hear any shouting from Old Master Lian or Lady Zhou. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

It seemed the old couple had finished their fight in the meantime.

Lady Chiang was the first to notice Lian Shouxin as she stoked the fire in the outer room and rushed to call out Lian Shouren and Lian Jizu to greet him.

Entering the Upper Room East Room, he saw Lady Zhou sitting alone on the kang, with Lian Shouyi and Lady He both sitting on the floor, and Old Master Lian was nowhere to be seen.

"Where’s dad?" Lian Shouxin asked.

"Don’t ask about that old rascal, who knows where he’s knocked off to!" Lady Zhou responded irritably instead of letting Lian Shouren or Lian Shouyi answer.

"He just went out, said he was going to the fields to look around." Lian Shouren quickly replied.

Lian Shouxin understood that Old Master Lian had lost the argument with Lady Zhou and left to avoid further confrontation.

"It’s almost dark, what’s he doing going to the fields alone? What if he falls?" Lian Shouxin said with a hint of worry, intending to turn and leave, under the pretext of finding Old Master Lian.

"Old Fourth, don’t go." Lady Zhou hurriedly called out. These days, when she spoke to Lian Shouxin, her tone was finally starting to sound like how a typical mother spoke to her son. "If anyone needs to find your dad, let them go. You hardly come here, let me talk to you for a bit."

Hearing this, Lian Shouxin couldn’t just turn his back and leave. In the meantime, Lian Shouren and Lian Jizu quickly volunteered to find Old Master Lian, and the two left together.

Lian Shouxin turned back, picked up a chair from the floor, and sat down.

The mother and son sat in silence for a moment, with Lian Shouxin showing no intention of breaking the ice.

"Old Fourth, I heard your mother-in-law is at your house?" Lady Zhou finally couldn’t help herself and started the conversation.
