In the narrative, Lian Manman deliberately skipped over the fact that she had entered the inner room, only claiming she had been standing by the window all along. This way, she couldn’t have possibly met Shen Liu, nor could she have secretly looked at any letters on the desk.

"Sixth Brother, what’s going on with Cai Xiu?" After speaking with Lian Manman, Shen Qian turned his head to ask Shen Liu.

"Cai Xiu? Is there any evidence?" Shen Liu’s gaze was inscrutable. He glanced at Shen Qian, then at Lian Manman, letting his gaze linger on her for a moment. The current Lian Manman was completely different from the assertive person in the study earlier. Was it because of the people present or because someone was backing her?

Shen Liu withdrew his gaze, raised his hand, and rubbed his chin. Then, his gaze involuntarily fell on Lian Manman again.

Upon hearing Shen Liu mention evidence, Lian Manman quickly produced the piece of clothing she had torn from Cai Xiu.

"I tore this from her when she pushed me through the door."

Shen Qian gave Lian Manman a look that said, "Manman, you’re impressive" and then took the piece of clothing from her, walked over, and handed it to Shen Liu.

Shen Liu did not reach out to take it, only glanced at it before nodding to his side. Commander Zhang had to step forward to take the piece of clothing.

"Sixth Brother..." Shen Qian called out.

Shen Liu lowered his head, looking down at Shen Qian, who was now up to his chest.

"Please have Manman go sit with Fifth Miss for a while, to calm her nerves." Shen Liu raised his head and said to Lian Manman, "I will get to the bottom of this and give you justice."

Lian Manman quickly curtsied in gratitude.

Having just been frightened, Lian Manman was about to go to Lotus Pavilion, naturally accompanied by Xiao Qi. "Miss, we won’t leave your side next time." Xiao Xi added.

"This isn’t your fault." Lian Manman sighed, seeing Shen Jin and the others approaching, she hurriedly whispered, "Don’t say anything more for now."

Shen Jin’s face was slightly pale. He grabbed Lian Manman’s hand, which was cold and somewhat damp.

"I was scared to death; it’s all my fault." Shen Jin shook Lian Manman’s hand while speaking.

The little maid who had been assigned to accompany Lian Manman to Xiao Shan Ju was pushed forward, and she knelt on the cobblestone ground with a thud.

"Miss, it’s all my fault. I deserve to die." The little maid cried, while kowtowing loudly.

"Get up quickly." Lian Manman instructed Xiao Xi to help the little maid up, "No one can see in front or behind. Just a few steps away, who could have imagined that..."

As Lian Manman spoke, she was not only addressing Shen Jin and others but also herself. Before the incident, she was completely confident that she was safe within the garden. Even now, when something has happened, she still doesn’t understand why.

"Fifth Sister, this isn’t the maid’s fault. For my sake, don’t punish her." Lian Manman implored Shen Jin.

Shen Jin gestured to those behind her to take the maid away.

"That useless thing doesn’t know its priorities. If anything happened to you today, even if she died several times, it wouldn’t be enough. You’re so kind, pleading for her... But I can’t keep her around, she’s worthless." Shen Jin said, leading Lian Manman to Lotus Pavilion.

Her inability to judge the situation made her unreliable. Although Lian Manman didn’t know how Shen Jin would punish her, it was certain that the maid’s prospects were dim, and she would be lucky to spend her life doing menial work.

Upon arriving at Lotus Pavilion, Shen Jin had Lian Manman lie down on the couch, and the kitchen sent over some calming and soothing refreshments.
