Lady Zhou and Lian Yeye had different expectations of Lian Shouli. To Lady Zhou, if Lian Shouli didn’t support her, it meant he was heartless and had wronged her greatly. In Lian Yeye’s view, as long as Lian Shouli didn’t come to hit or scold her, even if he said a few words of reproach, she felt he was defending her. Old Master Lian was trying his best to gloss over things, asking Lady Zhang to prepare the meal to divert from the commotion just before.

Lian Jizu and Lady Chiang supported Lady Zhou back, ready to help her onto the kang. Lady Zhou placed her hands on the kang, pretending to get on, but her eyes darted towards Lian Shouli, Lian Shouxin, then scanned over Lian Yeye, Lian Manman, and the other kids one by one.
"Grandma, get on the kang." Lian Jizu urged.
"Get on the damned kang." Lady Zhou suddenly erupted in anger again, turned around, pushed away Lian Jizu and Lady Chiang’s hands, and started walking out again. "Can’t you see they aren’t even looking at us? Getting on the kang to eat, what’s there to eat? With food slipping down the spine. Without this meal, I would starve to death. Starve to death than eat this meal made with hateful gaze."
Lady Zhou’s outburst happened for a reason. She felt that by turning back, she had greatly wronged herself and had given way to Lian Shouli. Yet Lian Shouli, Lian Yeye, seemed ungrateful, not to mention coming over to make amends; they didn’t even plan to pay attention to her.
Even Lian Shouxin, and those children of Lian Manman, they all had indifferent attitudes, none came over to speak kindly or coax her.
Lady Zhou felt immensely wronged, and it was her own biological son and her sons’ children causing this grievance. This was truly intolerable!
"You, spineless lot, who’s the son, and who’s the father? Just for a couple of drinks, acting like this, look at your lowly appearance." Lady Zhou spat toward Old Master Lian at the door, then without hesitation stepped over the threshold.
"I’ll swear, if I ever shamelessly come back here, may sores grow on the soles of my feet, just slap me on my face." Lady Zhou, reaching the outer room, saw Lady Zhang and Lady Zhao cooking and cursed them viciously before heading straight out.
Lady Zhao trembled like a sieve, seemingly unable to stand, naturally did not step up to stop Lady Zhou. Lady Zhang appeared somewhat dazed and stood still.
Lady Chiang, Lian Jizu, Lian Shouren, Lian Shouyi, and others followed her out one after another, but no one could persuade Lady Zhou.
Lady Zhou, a small-footed elderly lady, had never ventured out alone, not even in the village before. She called Lady Chiang and Lian Jizu to each side to support her back to the old house.
Lian Shouren and Lian Shouyi didn’t leave; they both looked at Old Master Lian.
Old Master Lian was also in a dilemma, with things turning out like this, could this meal still happen, should it happen?
