Reborn as a Devouring Dragon with a System-Chapter 38: Tattered Shop: Dragon Scale
Chapter 38: Tattered Shop: Dragon Scale
Kaidros, Drake, Noctheria, Stryx, and Zephyr had left the inn under the eyes of the crowd, who were baffled by the boldness of Kaidros and how lucky he was that the young woman came at the right time. If not, they might not be alive to see the next day.
On their way, Drake was deep in thought because he could see that the young master of the Ignis Clan was trying to be careful around the young lady—not because he admired or liked her. Drake could see that he had fear. This made him wonder what kind of background the young lady had that could make him act like that.
Drake also felt the young master’s gaze on them and the young lady’s gaze on him, making him shake his head. Honestly, Drake was already regretting making that first wish of becoming handsome.
If he was handsome and weak, he would just be raped by ladies up and down and turned into a slave here. Who would have expected that the Devouring Dragon God would go against fulfilling his third wish? He should have just made the first wish more useful.
But alas, it had gone—there was nothing he could do again. His cute face was now attracting everyone’s attention. Drake shook his head as he felt everyone’s gaze on them while they walked through the Bestial Town. It wasn’t just because of what had happened at the inn, but because of Kaidros’s face and his own that had attracted the attention of the crowd.
"Let’s go to the market square, maybe we can get something," Drake told Kaidros telepathically, who nodded as he headed to where the market square was.
As usual, it was noisy and everywhere was in order as the crowd bustled.
"Come buy an Early Stage Origin Foundation Realm Hopper Beast Core for 5 Origin Gold! It can increase your cultivation!"
"A Peak Origin Foundation Realm Dark-Spotted Leopard Beast for 100 Origin Gold!"
"Body Strengthening Herb, only for ten taels of Origin Silver!"
This was what Drake was hearing as they passed through the market, scanning for anything that might be worth buying. As for the rabbits, whenever they heard or saw the corpse of the Hopper Rabbit, they would want to burst out and cause chaos. If not for Drake calming them down, only the heavens knew what they would have done.
Drake didn’t see anything that was worth buying. Every moment, he could hear claims of a defying treasure, but when he silently checked with his Devouring Dragon Eye, they were all fake and nonsense.
As they were walking, suddenly Drake felt something calling to him. It was something familiar. This made him momentarily stunned as he asked Kaidros to stop walking while he tried to confirm where the call was coming from.
After some moments, Drake was able to ascertain where the aura was coming from. "Go straight," he commanded Kaidros as he led him through the market to where it was coming from.
Drake was sure that whatever was calling him was related to a dragon, as he felt a dragon aura from this call. He was ninety percent sure of this—and he was right.
They stood before a shop that looked tattered and desolate and saw many displays of material that looked ordinary, but when Drake used his Devouring Dragon Eye to check things out, they had a powerful aura that shocked him seriously. His expression became a bit serious.
But all of them had their eyes on one thing. Kaidros and the others could also feel the call—a broken scale was part of the material. It might have looked like an ordinary scale, but they knew it was a dragon scale.
One thing that surprised Drake was that he felt no presence from anyone here. He knew this kind of setting meant that someone powerful was present, which meant he had to tread carefully. If not for the fact that it was related to dragons, he would have just left.
As they searched the shop, they saw an old man sleeping on the ground. He had ragged clothing on his body. This wasn’t what concerned Drake. What mattered was the fact that he didn’t sense this old man at all. This made him look at the old man, who appeared like a mortal, but this confirmed Drake’s notion that this was a powerful cultivator.
He signaled Kaidros to wake the old man while he hid his aura to the extent that he looked fickle, trying his best to play the son. As for the rabbits, he temporarily hid them in his devouring space—it was better to play it safe.
Then Kaidros proceeded to wake the old man up, who yawned as he slowly stood up.
"Oh. A customer has appeared. Huh, a mortal," the old man muttered with his sleepy face, looking at Kaidros.
"What are you here for?" the old man asked.
"I want to buy this scale. So how much is it?" Kaidros asked as he looked at the old man, while Drake watched the scene.
"Since you want to buy it, you should know its worth. Bring something on par with it," the old man said. Kaidros looked at the old man emotionlessly.
"You should know that this is a dragon scale, even though it is broken," the old man said with a smile.
"But I wonder what you need it for as a swordsman," the old man grinned, looking at Drake, who tried his best to behave like a kid—wearing a look of confusion and trying to touch things while Kaidros kept him at bay. Even though he heard the old man’s words, he acted as if he didn’t understand what was happening.
Since the old man seemed to have figured out that Kaidros wasn’t a mortal, Kaidros released part of his sword aura, fusing it with his blood to make it look like a bloodline inheritance. He now left everything to Kaidros—it depended on him.
There was surprise on the old man’s face as he looked at Drake.
"It also seems you have a talented son."
Kaidros’s eyes were already cold as he unconsciously released his sword aura when he heard the old man referring to Drake.
