Reborn As A Bastard Child: Woah! I'm Super Overpowered-Chapter 23: Encountering a slippery brick
Chapter 23 - Encountering a slippery brick
Unbothered, Raven walked out into the corridor and to the next door, only to find it unlocked and wide open.
Inside the room, there was ...
Well there was nothing.
The room was practically bare, save for a lone rectangular golden brick dangling midway from the ceiling in an awkward position.
Apparently this golden brick possessed some value, otherwise it wouldn't be the only artefact inside a spacious room, openly exhibited to attract the curious glances of the passer-by.
Or so Raven thought...
He executed a perfect high jump, his hands extended to grab hold of that brick.
And his hand passed right through where the brick was awkwardly dangling.
The brick had long since changed its position.
Raven tried again and again, and every time the brick floated out of his grasp.
Raven sighed. A sheen of sweat covered his brows and his breath came out in sharp pants.
It seemed that normal means would not work against this stubborn little brick.
Well no matter, it's not like Raven had any shortage of tricks up his sleeve.
From his outstretched palm exuded a sapphire glow, and a bluish shield began materializing inside the room, encompassing everything inside, including Raven himself and the brick.
Translucent and selectively permeable, the shield began to decrease its size, slowly but steadily.
Raven soon found himself standing outside the fluid shield.
The brick, sensing something was amiss, began repeatedly bashing itself against the barrier, but no to avail.
Each plunge against the barrier sent out ripples on its surface, but it did not crack under the pressure.
Very soon, only the brick was coated with the slimy blue barrier, being pulled towards Raven entirely against its will.
The barrier delivered the brick to Raven's glowing palm, but did not disappear, as if anticipating that one wrong move, and this slippery brick would forever be out of reach.
Thus the intelligent barrier kept the brick hovering slightly near Raven.
Raven himself was quite calm.
His appraisal skill had informed him that the only way to make this disobedient brick submit to him was to form a blood bond with it.

So with his azure dagger, he made a small cut on the index finger of his right hand.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Just as the third drop of blood passed through the selectively permeable barrier and engraved itself on the brick, the brick changed its shade.
Earlier, it had exuded a golden hue, rivalling the gleam of the afternoon sun.
Now it had taken up a delicate shade of obsidian, dark and imposing, reflecting Raven's favourite hue. Patches of indigo swirled on its surface, giving off a majestic vibe under Raven's scrutiny.
Suddenly Raven felt a massive wave of dizziness crashing against him, causing him to momentarily lose balance. Nausea gnawed inside his skull, and with a thud Raven sank into his knees.
Panic briefly flared in his mind before he lost consciousness.

When Raven came around, he found himself sprawling unceremoniously on flat, dry ground.
In front of him lay a white sheet of paper with a sentence scrawled on it in horrible calligraphy, apparently the work of someone having a train to catch.
( Back in Raven's homeland, trains ran perpetually behind schedule and therefore halted in each station for only a few minutes on the premise of attempting to make up for the lost time.
Therefore it was widely believed that only the prerogative of catching a train could make a man move with utmost urgency and thereby negatively affecting his other tasks.)
'When ready, stand inside the circle and for heaven's sake, don't move!'
That was all that was etched on the thin strip of paper.
Hastily sitting up Raven could see a circle dug on the ground with a sharp weapon, supposedly a sword in the distance.
Scrambling up, Raven brushed the dirt off his clothes and stepped inside the circle.
In that instant...
A gleaming streak of silver flew towards him at great velocity, in a mad pursuit of claiming Raven's life.
