Reborn As A Bastard Child: Woah! I'm Super Overpowered-Chapter 22: An emotionally vulnerable MC and a silently seething Balthazar
Chapter 22 - An emotionally vulnerable MC and a silently seething Balthazar
After a long nap, Raven eyes fluttered open, his long eyelashes quivering in rapid successions to chase the remaining tendrils of sleep away.
He felt completely refreshed.
It would still take the system two more hours to scan all the books in the library, so Raven had plenty of time in his hand to mull over Balthazar Ralph Ignaz's consciousness's words.
Popping out a stewed rabbit leg from the system inventory and casually putting it between his jaws, Raven let his thoughts wander to the recent developments in his life.
To Raven, Balthazar Ralph Ignaz seemed to be an enigma.
His ancestor must have hailed from about eight generations ago, yet his consciousness remains intact till date, untainted by corruption.
In fact, his consciousness seemed piqued with Raven's unusual presence, but remained eerily detached.
Considering the lengths he had gone to shield his resting place from the prying eyes of Mother Tree, his sudden carefree demeanour when an intruder had barged inside his domain made Raven curious indeed.
Maybe Balthazar Ralph Ignaz wasn't taking him seriously?
Yeah! Looks like that is the case.

Not that Raven minded.
In fact, he was more interested in the actual words Balthazar had spoken, the part about his soul splitting into two strands even before his birth in either realm.
If that was true, then Raven was sure that a larger conspiracy was at play.
Because from whatever he has gleaned from Helios' memories, it is highly unusual for souls to split .
Souls are generally resilient, and split only as a ultimate survival measure to continue its existence when confronted with unlimited oppressive power.
In the entire Ignaz empire, only the person occupying the throne has the ability to crush souls, not wholly, but enough to fracture them.
And this person would be his father His Majesty The Emperor Vasilios Valentine Ignaz.
So it seems that his father had long since harboured malicious intentions towards him.
Raven silently thanked Balthazar Ralph Ignaz's consciousness for tipping him off.
Whatever hesitations about his father's character remained in his heart now disappear completely without a lingering trace, as if they had never been there in the first place.
As Raven's mind spiralled downwards into a black abyss, latched onto a vivid imagination of the ways he would get back at his father for making his life a miserable hell, the system's sweet chime swiftly brought him back to reality.
Quitting his brooding session, Raven opened his eyes to gaze sluggishly at the system prompt.
[Ding! All books have been scanned. Acquired knowledge transferred to host's mind]
Raven's glazed eyes remained transfixed on the screen, unblinking.
Then a soft, silent string of words escaped his mouth.
"Oh God, I sometimes feel so tired ...... I miss everyone back home."
==========
Just as these words came out, Raven himself visibly stiffened, clamping his mouth shut with his own hands.
"Haa... what the hell am I even thinking? It's not like my previous life was any good anyways. Sure, I enjoyed taking the class of a few students, but it's not like I shared a lasting acquaintance with them."
Blinking away the traces of weariness from his features, Raven stood up and stretched, mentally sifting through a bunch load of new information that now seemed to be carefully assorted inside his mind, ready to come to the forefront with a mere thought.
He stood up and stretched his aching body, allowing himself a moment of respite before sauntering off towards the exit, glad to be leaving this goddamn library after an entire day.
This place made him too goddamn nostalgic.
Just as he was about to step out of the library, something came to his mind and he let out a string of curses, with he himself at the receiving end of it.
"Shit, can't believe I actually became this forgetful after a thing or two from the past came back to haunt me."
Sighing internally, he snapped his fingers, with little golden yellow flames dancing at his fingertips.
With a flick of his wrist, Raven set the flames free, allowing them to feast.
He himself turned and walked out, never looking back.
The flames ravaged the library, burning every single thing down.
And thus the effort of an entire lifetime of Balthazar Ralph Ignaz spent in collecting there priceless volumes came to ashes, quite literally.
