"I can’t make out their attitude from the phone, but I am sure my grandfather feels tensed knowing I am cohabiting with you," Gu Shishi replied, as she prepared to leave the house.

Lu Wei’s palms turned sweaty. He was worried on behalf of Gu Shishi. He did not want to be the reason the relationship between her grandparents and her turned sour.

"I will drop you home," Lu Wei agreed, before he went into his room to put on proper clothes.

"Shall we leave?" Lu Wei asked, leading her out of the condo.

After an hour-drive, they finally arrived at the Gu’s family house.

"Master, Madam, Young Miss has returned," one of the maids who saw Gu Shishi exit the car exclaimed with all her might, rushing into the mansion, while panting.

Gu Fen who was seated on one of the sofas, deep in thought sprang up to her feet at once.

"Is she truly back?" Gu Fen grabbed the maid at once, shaking her due to excitement.

"Yes, Madam, I have seen Young Miss, she is on her way into the house now, she has returned," the maid replied, not feeling bothered about the way she was pushed about by Gu Fen.

Gu Fen let go of the maid in excitement. The maid stabilised herself immediately, still not annoyed by Gu Fen’s actions.

"Mother, Father, Gu Guan, come out, Gu Shishi is back, my daughter has finally returned," Gu Fen screamed, her scream attracting them immediately, which caused them to step out of their respective rooms.

"What is it?" Grandma Gu took slow steps towards Gu Fen who had a bright look in her eyes.

"Mother, Gu Shishi has arrived, she should be entering the house.."

"Grandmother, Grandfather," Gu Fen was interrupted by Gu Shishi who called out to her grandparents.

"Gu Shishi," Grandma Gu whispered as she watched her take slow steps.

She was not alone, Lu Wei had decided to walk her in. He was scared that her grandparents might scold her, so he needed to be with her, and protect her at the same time.

"Grandpa, Grandma, I apologize for making you worried," Gu Shishi walked straight to her grandparents, directly ignoring her parents who had a look of disappointment on their faces.

The smile on Gu Fen’s face dropped at once. It seemed like Gu Shishi was keeping a grudge, but it was not wrong for her to do so.

After all, they, her parents never took care of her for once. They often times ignored her.

"Have a seat, I am not angry at you, your presence has soothed all the anger in me," Grandma Gu smiled as she pulled Gu Shishi to have a seat.

Lu Wei stood to the side obediently. They knew he was present in the living room, but they ignored him, they acted like he did not exist.

"How are you? I hope you were not treated badly, I want you to know that you will always be our family’s granddaughter, nothing will change that," Grandma Gu held Gu Shishi’s hands, her eyes had a reassuring look in it.

"I know grandma, I was just out of sorts yesterday, I was confused, and I had no idea what to do, so I did what I thought was best, and that was to run away, but I will not run again,

I perfectly understand if you want to expel me from the family," Gu Shishi smiled, her eyes had a hint of bitterness in it though she forced a smile on her face.

"Shh, who says you will be expelled from the house, look, we have decided to get a DNA test done, back then, your parents didn’t do anything, so we will conduct a DNA test," Grandma Gu informed her with excitement laced in her voice, tightening her hands around Gu Shishi hands.

Gu Shishi frowned, falling into deep thoughts at once. Could it be that there is a possibility that she is truly a member of the family. If that was so, then she might be treated differently.

She suddenly envisaged how life would be better if the DNA test was done. But then again, what if the test results came out negative, her fears would come true.

"Gu Shishi, are you listening to what I am saying?" Grandma Gu gently patted her arms, causing her to snap out of her reverie.

Gu Shishi smiled at her grandmother, showing that she understood. She turned to look at her parents who were staring at her lovingly which caused her to shudder, this was the first time they gave her such a loving look.

She shivered, not being used to such a look.

"Yes dear, mother is right, Gu Shishi, listen, anytime you are ready to go for a DNA test, you can let us know," Gu Guan smiled at her sweetly.

Gu Shishi stared at her parents for a long time, completely scared because of their actions.

"Young man, why did you decide to inhabit my granddaughter in your house?" Grandpa Gu finally recalled that Lu Wei was still present in the mansion, so they all turned to look at Lu Wei who coughed awkwardly.

"Grandma, Grandpa, he is not at fault, I was the one who begged him to take me in," Gu Shishi immediately spoke up for Lu Wei.

She wanted to protect him, after all she was the one who brought trouble to him.

"Be quiet, I did not ask you about it, I was asking the young man, I don’t want you to speak anymore," Grandpa Gu warned her, and she clamped her mouth shut at once.

"Now over to you, young man, you made your intention of courting my granddaughter known yesterday, what you should have done is bring her back home, so I can see your sincerity, but you did not do that, why is that?" Grandpa Gu asked with folded arms.

Lu Wei swallowed, looking at Grandpa Gu who welded power and authority. Gu Shishi frowned as she stared at Lu Wei worriedly.

She was aware of her grandfather’s harsh rule, and she only hoped Lu Wei did not take offense to it, but she had clearly underestimated Lu Wei’s love for her.

"I am sorry grandfather, I am aware my actions were wrong, but I did it because I cared about Gu Shishi, she had a strong reaction when I volunteered to drop her home, and I could only do what I thought was best, which was to take her to my house, I could not leave her in a hotel, I would be degrading my feelings for her if I did so."

Lu Wei was blessed with a glib tongue. In just a few seconds, he was able to explain the situation properly, and gave a good explanation for his actions.

All eyes turned to look at Grandpa Gu after Lu Wei was done with his explanation.

Grandpa Gu, on the other hand, stroked his beards. This was the first time he was rendered speechless, and that too, by a young boy.

He suddenly burst out into laughter, which shocked everyone present in the room as they continued staring at him. Grandpa Gu nodded, feeling satisfied.

"Gu Shishi, it is best you fall in love with him soon, it is not often you get such a good, talented, and young man, I would not want you to miss out on this hot piece of cake," Grandpa Gu laughed, his words causing Lu Wei to jolt.

If yesterday, Grandpa Gu had merely given his permission for Lu Wei to court Gu Shishi, then today, Lu Wei had won over Grandpa Gu, and his actions showed he had wholeheartedly accepted Lu Wei.

Gu Shishi heaved a sigh of relief seeing that Lu Wei had escaped this, and also won the favour of her grandfather.

"I am ready to go for the test," Gu Shishi suddenly spoke up, and all eyes landed on her.

"But I will appreciate it if it is done in secret," Gu Shishi made a request.

"Of course, anything you say, it will be done," Gu Fen was excited.

She was willing to do anything just for her daughter. She had neglected her daughter all her life, if this was how she could make it up to her, then she was willing to do so.

"Guan, I think it is best to call a trusted doctor to the house, since Shishi wants it to be done in secret, I feel like it is best to have it done here, what do you think?" Gu Fen suggested, searching for their opinion as well.

Before Gu Guan could respond, they heard a noise at the entrance of the mansion. They all exchanged looks before they went out to check what was happening.
