Chapter 316: Chapter 316: The First Battle

Although Lin Cheng was a key individual I wanted to cultivate, there were some significant issues in the plan I just saw.

If we proceed under Lin Cheng’s company’s conditions, Ling Group would only earn enough profit to cover average wages and bonuses.

This is not a good start; once it happens the first time, there will be a second.

Hua Ningcan nodded. The contract and proposal processes typically weren’t her responsibility, but ever since that conversation with Ling Tianyou, she had been jointly appointed to manage them.

However, correspondingly, her salary would double if this contract came through.

She understood clearly why Ling Tianyou was doing this. The board members were dissatisfied with his decision to cease cooperation with the Chen Family. The relationships within Ling Corporation were complex, making it somewhat challenging for Ling Tianyou to pioneer new projects.

She, on the other hand, was a great aid.

"However, there’s one more issue," Hua Ningcan said, looking at Ling Tianyou. "The Lin Group’s branch wants to send an employee over to Ling Group to experience the corporate culture and further collaboration between the two companies."

Ling Tianyou chuckled softly, "They can come, but the experience time can only be a week."

It goes without saying that this wasn’t Lin Cheng’s idea, but rather the intention of the real person in charge of the Lin Family’s branch.

Clearly, their appetite isn’t small.

Hua Ningcan nodded, "Yes, President Ling, I will clarify that with them."

"Hmm, is there anything else?"

"No, that’s all." Hua Ningcan held the documents, "Then I’ll head out first, President Ling."

Ling Tianyou responded with acknowledgment, and Hua Ningcan left.

Not even a couple of minutes had passed since the office door closed, yet before Gu Ningyue emerged from the inner room, Ling Tianyou’s phone rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, it was Lin Cheng: "This kid knows just when to call!"

Ling Tianyou answered, and before he could say a word, Lin Cheng’s complaining voice came through: "Hello, Brother Tianyou, let me tell you, I’m truly worn out by my old man. We had agreed that I would handle this collaboration, yet he still sent someone to monitor me! It’s bad enough that I’m being monitored, but they are also interfering!"

God knows how much persuasion it took for his old man to allow him to undertake this project. Just when his interest was piqued, that person named Chen Yu intervened and messed it all up.

Because he has been around his old man for a few more years, he doesn’t even regard him as significant, what the hell!

Ling Tianyou twirled the pen in his hand, his long fingers reflected beautifully in the sunlight, almost glowing: "How long has it been since you last went to the company? It’s only natural for your father to find someone to assist you in case you make a mistake. That person named Chen Yu, right? I’ve seen him on the roster of other companies. Your father must have offered him significant benefits to lure him over."

Lin Cheng fell silent for a few seconds, seemingly recalling the events at that time, "Seems like it..."

Ling Tianyou smiled knowingly, "Try learning from him! Although his behavior is a bit rigid and aloof, his business acumen could take you another three to five years to learn."

If it weren’t for him, the document Hua Ningcan brought today might not have seemed problematic in the eyes of outsiders.

It was only when things were set in motion that they’d realize how little profit they were actually making, yet no one could pinpoint any flaws.

However, following Chen Yu’s usual style, he would likely add some perks at the last moment for the sake of future cooperation.

Otherwise, who would dare to engage in partnerships that offer little gain yet require significant effort time and again?

This time, Chen Yu likely thought the Ling Family was wealthy and, knowing his good rapport with Lin Cheng, was trying to capitalize on it!

Lin Cheng sighed, "I know he’s skilled, but I truly can’t get along with him. We can’t even have open conversations, let alone talk business together. Oh, by the way, this time he wants to send someone to your company, Brother Tianyou, to experience the corporate culture. Isn’t this pointless idleness?"

Listening to Lin Cheng, Ling Tianyou couldn’t help but laugh, "He’s coming to experience corporate culture? If anyone else said that, I might believe it, but definitely not Chen Yu."

If there had to be something useless yet attractive in a company, it would be the so-called corporate culture.

Lin Cheng seemed confused, "Is he going there to learn tricks? But what exactly could he learn?"

Ling Tianyou smiled mildly, "Don’t worry, it’s only a week. You don’t need to bother about this. Your main task is to focus on the collaboration project. Lin Cheng, this is your first battle. If it doesn’t go well, the road ahead might be challenging."

Lin Cheng nodded, "I know."

In truth, he hadn’t been particularly interested in business from the start, but ever since Chen Yu appeared, something inexplicable ignited in him, driving him to succeed in this project.

Of course, the collaboration hadn’t been finalized yet.

Reflecting on this, Lin Cheng continued, "Brother Tianyou, can you afford to give us a little extra profit margin this time? Just this once, okay?"

Instead of answering, Ling Tianyou asked, "Have you seen the proposal and contract that Chen Yu provided?"

Lin Cheng was puzzled, "Yes, I have. Why?"

Hearing Lin Cheng’s naive tone, Ling Tianyou realized he didn’t comprehend the document’s true nature.

After briefly explaining it, Lin Cheng finally saw the light, "Crafty! He’s really crafty! How could he do this!"

Though facing Lin Cheng’s livid outrage, Ling Tianyou was much calmer by comparison, "Would you believe me if I said he has another set of proposals and contracts?"

Lin Cheng was taken aback, "Another set?"

Ling Tianyou responded coolly, "He knows about your relationship with me, so he’s using it to see if I’d make concessions. If I do, great. If not, nothing is finalized, so there’s no loss!"

"I’ll go back and ask him," Lin Cheng replied, suddenly feeling hesitant, "Brother Tianyou, am I truly suited for business?"

"Does anyone in this world inherently fit the mold of a businessman?" Ling Tianyou’s voice resonated softly across the phone, "If you weren’t suited, I wouldn’t have chosen you in the first place. Lin Cheng, have more confidence."

Since Lin Cheng came of age, he was almost never called ’Little Cheng’ again.

Out of nowhere, Lin Cheng found some courage and spiritedly assured, "Alright, I’ll make it happen. Brother Tianyou, rest assured!"

After hanging up, Ling Tianyou looked up at Gu Ningyue, who had long since emerged from the inner room and was seated on the sofa, a subtle smile naturally playing at the corners of his mouth.

He resembled a radiant deity, dazzling and brilliant.
