Chapter 671: Chapter 273: Wait for My Return (Part 2)

Hearing the cursing and the gradually slowing footsteps behind him, Pello realized that he had only pressed the button for the third floor elevator. However, by his calculations, with Hang Yishao’s temperament, he surely wouldn’t risk continuing to use the elevator and risk falling behind.

Just as they were about to reach the ground floor, Pello held his breath, accelerating once more as he took the final few steps, crossing onto the deck where the fresh sea breeze greeted him. The air, filled with the scent of the sea, seemed to carry a hint of dust.

No sooner had Pello steadied himself than he saw Su Ziceng standing by the stairway entrance, looking towards the beach. Without a second thought, he embraced her. She didn’t struggle, and no one on the deck showed any surprise at Pello’s appearance.

Everyone’s gaze and breath were stolen in that moment. On the other side of the beach, the impossible-to-ignore "Golden Coast" began to collapse from the top down. Even the sea’s surface was disturbed, with waves rising due to the building’s sway. The ship rocked along, and Pello followed Su Ziceng’s gaze, looking over.

"Golden Coast?" Pello’s mind went blank for an instant, as the hundred-story building seemed poised to fall.

"What a sin," people on the cruise ship murmured. Some had already dialed emergency services. The beach was crowded with onlookers, and Pello, holding onto Su Ziceng, tightened his embrace. From his arms, Su Ziceng could feel that Pello was utterly stunned by the scene.

At this moment, Wen Maixue and the employees of Wen Family, as well as those from ZARA, were all working inside.

"I have to go," Pello said with difficulty, letting go of her hand. It was on his suggestion that this building had been further constructed. Sitting close by, a completely stunned Su Qingzhang and Pello both clearly understood that today’s disaster was the result of their past decisions. In the face of sudden calamity, someone must take responsibility.

Su Ziceng’s heart was engulfed by fear, the swaying building mirroring her tumultuous emotions, but she couldn’t ask Pello not to go.

His anger was submerged in a smiling face. Pello bowed his head, kissed Su Ziceng, and said, "Wait for me to return."

She must wait for him to return; he wasn’t leaving but didn’t want to leave with debts unpaid. With this endeavor, he intended to settle all his obligations.

When Hang Yishao emerged, he saw Su Ziceng standing on the deck. Pello, who had been earlier than him, was nowhere to be seen. The scene not far from the beach made it difficult for the wedding to continue. Some of the braver individuals also ran down.

The whole of Mo City seemed to shift into battle mode instantly. Every citizen, whether able or not to assist, prayed in silence, hoping that the building, once a symbol of Mo City’s rise, would not collapse just like that.

"Ziceng," Hang Yishao looked at Su Ziceng, who was fixated on the distance, a frown on her face. Her eyes left no room for him. She kept staring into the distance, hands clenched tightly, holding the "Red Love" gemstone that glinted red. Hang Yishao didn’t speak again. He just watched Su Ziceng, who was so close yet so far away. The sunshine stretched their shadows far apart, one to the south and one to the north. Hang Yishao knew he had lost again.

Employees who ran from the "Golden Coast" didn’t disperse upon reaching a safe area. Along with residents and onlookers gathered near the building, they awaited the arrival of fire trucks and police. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"What a pity," someone in the crowd commented. Everyone thought it was a shame that the newly built office tower, with its sophisticated interiors and state-of-the-art equipment, had been in use for only a short while before coming to this...

A man who looked like a department manager stepped forward, intending to tally the on-site personnel before the police arrived, to facilitate the upcoming rescue efforts, "Has anyone seen Miss Wen?"

Most people were still in a state of shock, only a few who worked on the same floor as Wen Maixue recalled that she had not escaped with everyone when the incident occurred.

"What should we do?" The manager, who had been the first to escape, grew anxious. "Quick, someone go and rescue Miss Wen, she is the sole heir of the Wen family now."

A living, breathing person was, in these people’s eyes, nothing more than a symbol of status.

"Miss Wen’s office is on the seventieth floor," someone from the security department spoke hesitantly. In a life-threatening moment, Wen Maixue’s usual kindness and the admiration she received from all were rendered ineffective.

Gradually, no one in the crowd spoke of Wen Maixue again. She was forgotten amidst the falling debris and shattered glass.

A figure rushed into the building, not dressed in any firefighting gear nor taking any protective measures, charging straight inside. The receptionist at the front desk pointed and shouted, "Earl of Wizi!"

Everyone heaved a sigh of relief. The Earl of Wizi was Wen Maixue’s fiancé; having him go to rescue her was doubtlessly the most fitting choice.

If he succeeded, it would be expected, for they were betrothed. If he failed, it would create a poignant love story. Either way, a romantic tale between a man and woman was far more entertaining to discuss in leisure time than the cold indifference of people.

Everyone loves beautiful things; it is in human nature. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for it with a recommendation ticket or monthly ticket at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
