Rebirth Swapped Bride; Married to the Ruthless Cursed Billionaire-Chapter 353: Invitation for Dinner
Chapter 353: Invitation for Dinner
The Calvin Family Manor.
As Calvin stepped out of his car, Gino hurried forward to greet him.
"Mr. Calvin, your grandmother is here. She’s waiting in the living room."
Why would Grandma visit so suddenly?
Calvin’s finely sculpted brows furrowed slightly as he strode inside, his long legs carrying him effortlessly.
Gino trailed behind, hesitating as if wanting to say something, but ultimately remaining silent.
In the living room, Grandma Calvin sat with her glasses perched on her nose, flipping through the latest gossip headlines from the business and social circles.
Naturally, her main focus was checking for any news about her grandson.
To her relief, Calvin had indeed been keeping a low profile lately.
Just as she thought—love had a way of settling even the most restless hearts.
If only Fany had appeared sooner.
"Grandmother," Calvin’s voice snapped grandma Calvin out of her thoughts.
"What brings you here so suddenly?"
"You little rascal, always with the same old line," Grandma Calvin frowned, feigning displeasure as she eyed her grandson.
"What, do I need to make an appointment like some outsider just to see my own grandson?"
"Now you’re being unfair," Calvin first washed his hands, then personally brewed a cup of tea for his Grandma.
"What I meant was, if you ever need me, just give me a call.
I’ll come to you," Calvin handed the freshly brewed tea to his Grandma with a warm smile.
"No need for you to go through all this trouble."
"Oh, you and your sweet talk," Under her grandson’s charm offensive, Grandma Calvin couldn’t keep up her stern expression.
She gently blew on the tea floating atop the cup before taking a slow, appreciative sip.
Calvin smirked and settled onto the sofa across from her.
After a long pause, Grandma Calvin set her cup down and turned her gaze back at him.
"I heard from the staff you’ve been holed up at the company these past few days.
Didn’t even come home?"
"Mhm," Calvin’s expression remained unchanged, but his narrow eyes narrowed slightly in resignation.
"Things have been hectic at the company lately."
"Busy, busy, busy—that’s all you ever say to brush off an old woman like me," scoffed Grandma Calvin, glaring at him with obvious displeasure.
"The entire Calvin family is at your disposal.
If you insist on handling everything personally, what’s the point of having them around?"
At her words, Jey and Gino exchanged a glance before lowering their heads in silence.
Why did it feel like the old lady was pointing her finger and scolding them directly?!
"They have their uses," Calvin replied, his lips curving into a faint smile as he regarded his grandmother with gentle patience.
"But some matters require my personal attention."
"If you ask me, the only thing that truly needs your personal attention is dating," Grandma Calvin retorted, clearly unconvinced.
"With how swamped you’ve been these past few days, I doubt you’ve had any time to spend with Tiffany, have you?"
And just like that, she steered the conversation to the heart of the matter.
Calvin *wished* he could be with her.
Calvin lowered his head to sip his tea, responding with a faint, noncommittal hum.
"Fanny is such a darling.
If you keep being so indifferent, aren’t you afraid someone else might step in and care for her instead?"
Grandma. Calvin pursed her lips in exasperation, her expression clearly conveying her frustration at his lack of initiative.
"Alright then," she glanced at the clock and smiled, "since it’s almost dinnertime, why don’t you go pick up Fanny yourself?
We can all have a meal together."
There were, after all, a few matters she needed to discuss with the two of them.
"Grandmother,"
Calvin’s eyes narrowed slightly as he met her gaze.
"This is rather sudden.
Fanny might not be free. Let me call and ask first."
Grandma. Calvin nodded in agreement.
Calvin took his phone and walked a few steps away before dialing Tiffany’s number.
His strikingly handsome features were slightly downcast, as if lost in thought.
Watching her grandson deliberately distance himself to make the call, the old woman couldn’t help but smirk.
The relationships she’d experienced—no, the sheer life experience she’d accumulated—far outweighed anything these youngsters had been through.
What could they possibly say that she hadn’t heard before?
Antonio Hospital.
Calvin?
Staring at the unregistered number flashing on her phone screen, Tiffany’s eyes flickered with a complex mix of emotions—chief among them, surprise.
She had thought he would never call her again.
"Miss Tiffany, I’ve brought your dinner," Jaina announced as she stepped into the room, only to find Tiffany clutching her vibrating phone, lost in thought.
A shadow of something unreadable darted across Jaina’s eyes.
"Alright," Tiffany replied, her scattered focus snapping back to the present.
"Thank you."
Her voice was calm, almost detached.
"I’ll eat later.
Just leave it on the table."
"Got it," Jaina nodded, turning to set the food down.
But instead of leaving, she grabbed a mop nearby and bent over, pretending to clean the floor.
Her ears, however, remained sharply attuned to Tiffany’s every move.
The call ended automatically with no answer.
Calvin’s face remained impassive, but the faintest trace of a bitter smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
It seemed Grandma was destined to be disappointed.
And perhaps, she wasn’t the only one.
Tiffany clutched her phone tightly, only realizing too late that her hesitation had caused the call to disconnect.
She pressed her lips together, then dialed back anyway.
Buzz.
Buzz.
Buzz.
The vibration of the phone halted Calvin in his tracks.
His dark eyes narrowed slightly as he glanced at the caller ID, the tension in his lips softening into a subtle curve.
"Fanny—"
His voice, warm and amused, seeped through the phone, wrapping around Tiffany like a familiar embrace—comforting, almost unbearably sweet.
Maybe it was the aftermath of the near-death scare she’d just endured, or something else entirely, but an unexpected wave of vulnerability and sorrow welled up inside her.
"Yeah," she murmured, keeping her voice low, forcing it to sound as steady as always.
"I’m here, what’s up?"
"Grandmother is at the estate.
She’d like to invite you to join us for dinner," Calvin said, his lips parting slightly as he relayed the message from Grandma.
Calvin to Tiffany in a calm, unhurried tone.
"If you’re free, I can pick you up right away."
Calvin paused briefly, his voice still steady and gentle.
"Of course, if you’re busy, that’s perfectly fine too."
Grandma Calvin?
Ever since they connected on Whatsapp, grandma Calvin had been sending her thoughtful messages from time to time, checking in on her.
Those warm, caring words from a maternal figure always touched Tiffany deeply.
If she declined, Grandma Calvin would surely be disappointed.
The words of refusal simply wouldn’t come.
Noticing Tiffany’s hesitation, a faint, knowing smile flickered in Calvin’s eyes.
"Don’t worry about it.
I’ll think of something to explain to Grandma—no pressure."
His gentle reassurance only made Tiffany feel even more reluctant to let them down.
"I’ll go right away."
It’s just dinner.
If I wear a hat, the injury on my head shouldn’t be noticeable.
Hearing this, Jaina abruptly stopped mopping the floor.
She’s going to the Calvin family?
The sudden change of plans left her unsettled.
On the other end of the line, Calvin paused as he lit a cigarette, a faint smile flickering in his dark eyes.
"Alright, I’ll come pick you up at home now."
"No need," Tiffany quickly refused.
"I’m with a friend right now, not at home.
I’ll just take a cab there later."
"Fanny—"
Before Calvin could say more, Tiffany cut him off.
"That’s settled then.
I’ll get ready now.
See you soon."
Without waiting for a response, she hung up.
"See you soon," Calvin murmured to the dial tone, his voice trailing off.
Calvin’s lips curved into a faint smile, the icy gloom that had clouded his eyes for days now completely melted away.
The manor’s lights seemed to come alive in his gaze, twinkling with newfound warmth.
Tiffany rose from the hospital bed and began dressing herself, wincing slightly with every movement as pain shot through her body.
Her brows knitted together involuntarily.
"Miss Tiffany, let me help you with that," offered Jaina.
"Thank you, but I can manage," Tiffany replied with a gentle smile, meeting the assistant’s concerned eyes.
"I need to go out for a bit.
You’ve worked all day—this would be a good time for you to rest."
How naive.
Jaina watched those clear, guileless eyes, and a flicker of pity flashed across her face—so fleeting it might never have existed.
