Rebirth in the 90s: Melting My Devoted Mr. Iceberg-Chapter 686: Persistent Shadow
After dinner, as Jiang Xue was about to pick up her book again, Mu Qiancheng said directly, "Xue’er, take a break. You’ve been reading all day, and it’s not good for your eyes. Let’s go out for a walk and visit the night market."
Speaking of which, since arriving in Xu City, he hadn’t accompanied Jiang Xue to the night market yet. He had heard from his comrades that the night market in Xu City was quite lively, especially near K University, bustling with people selling all sorts of food and goods.
"No, there’s still more than a month until the exams, and I have a lot of books to finish," Jiang Xue shook her head, not wanting to go.
However, Mu Qiancheng didn’t care that much and directly pulled her along. Even Little Reunion looked at her with eager eyes, as if saying, "Mom, come on, let’s go together."
Seeing that both of them wanted her to go, Jiang Xue reluctantly followed the father and son out the door to the night market.
The night market wasn’t far from where they lived, just a ten-minute walk away.
From a distance, Jiang Xue could hear the lively noises. Looking at the bustling night market, her previously gloomy mood instantly improved.
Seeing Jiang Xue in a better mood, Mu Qiancheng’s lips curved into a slight smile. It seemed that sometimes with Jiang Xue, a little firmness was needed. Just like tonight, if he hadn’t insisted on taking her out, she certainly wouldn’t have come.
Jiang Xue was unaware of Mu Qiancheng’s thoughts. She saw some stalls selling trinkets in the night market and ran over, wanting to buy a few for her son to play with.
Little Reunion was born in the Year of the Dog, so Jiang Xue picked up a fluffy little dog toy and intended to ask her son if he liked it. But when she turned around, she found that Mu Qiancheng and her son hadn’t followed her.
Jiang Xue wanted to know where the two had gone, so she stood up and began to search around. When she saw that Mu Qiancheng and her son were blocked by someone, her expression darkened.
Jiang Xue put down the little dog and walked towards Mu Qiancheng. Before she even got close, she heard the woman blocking Mu Qiancheng say, "Mu Qiancheng, why did you stand me up?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Jiang Xue’s gaze turned cold. She thought it was some infatuated woman blocking her husband and son, but it turned out to be Cheng Li.
It seemed the warning given to Cheng Li today had gone unheeded.
"Get lost!" Mu Qiancheng frowned and looked at Cheng Li with cold eyes. He had stood her up today, thinking she would understand that he didn’t want to see her.
Unexpectedly, not only did she fail to get the message, she even stalked him. No wonder he had felt someone was following them the whole way.
But he hadn’t thought much of it, assuming it was someone else visiting the night market, like them. It wasn’t until Cheng Li appeared in front of him that he realized it was her following him.
If he had known it was her, he would have dealt with it immediately.
"Mu Qiancheng, how can you be so heartless? Pretending not to know me in the village is one thing, but now you’re treating me like this. Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?" Cheng Li put on a pitiful face, accusing Mu Qiancheng.
Those who didn’t know better, upon hearing Cheng Li’s words, might have thought Mu Qiancheng had done something wrong to her. Consequently, people started gathering around them, whispering amongst themselves.
"I’ll say it again, get lost!" Mu Qiancheng looked at Cheng Li, hearing the murmurs around, and his eyes were filled with anger. He knew Cheng Li’s intentions, but he had absolutely no desire to argue with her.
Seeing her reminded him of how she had once, under the guise of friendship, tried to convince Jiang Xueling to divorce.
