Rebirth: Contract Husband Falls in Love with Me-Chapter 412 - 210: Visitors from the Zhou Family (Part 2)
Shi Fengju’s brows furrowed slightly, "I truly underestimated my cousin! Who would have expected she’d actually have some talent!" Speaking again, he sneered coldly, "In all my life, what I, Shi Fengju, have liked the least is being coerced by others. If she resorts to these tactics, even if she stays, she should forget about me sparing her even a single glance in this lifetime!"
Sang Wan’s heart skipped a beat, staring blankly at Shi Fengju. He had just said, "even if she stays"—was he ultimately going to let her stay?
Seeing her looking at him like that, Shi Fengju was at first puzzled but quickly understood and smiled, "Those were just words spoken in passing, Miss Wan. I won’t let her stay in the mansion to give us trouble! If she insists on not leaving the Shi family, I will send her to the manor!"
"Would she be willing to go? You’re thinking too simply!"
Shi Fengju sneered coldly, "This small matter will not stump me!"
Sang Wan then said, "In any case, I’ve already relayed what mother wanted me to say. You can handle her yourself!"
Shi Fengju smiled, "Of course! If mother blames you again, don’t take it to heart, okay? Even for my sake, put up with it for a while. Once we’re back in Ningyuan, you can do as you please!"
Sang Wan chuckled and waved her hands as she scolded him, "Enough, enough, I wouldn’t dare to order you around! If you retaliate later, I’ll have nowhere to cry!"
Shi Fengju chuckled and leaned closer, whispering softly in her ear, "How could I retaliate, that you would be so afraid, hm?"
Sang Wan’s face blushed as she laughed and pushed him away. Shi Fengju wrapped her fully in his embrace, his forehead rubbing against hers with a raspy voice saying, "Miss Wan, don’t let these trivial matters trouble you, your husband won’t let you suffer!"
Sang Wan softly hummed in agreement, her gaze meeting his intensely bright eyes, stirring her soul. His face so close, she couldn’t help but lean forward slightly, giving his cheek a gentle kiss. Shi Fengju hummed lowly, tilting her head and kissing her lips forcefully, prying her mouth open to entwine her tongue in a passionate embrace.
On the 20th of February, Gu Fangzi took the carriage with several maids and old women to Guangling Temple to perform a ritual ceremony and remove her mourning clothes, only returning after three days.
Dressed in plain white garments with all hairpins and accessories made of plain silver, against her somewhat pale face, she genuinely had the look of a mournful, filial daughter.
Upon departure, Mrs. Wang, seeing her frail yet not neglecting to personally perform the ritual for her deceased father, couldn’t help but feel a great pity, holding her hand and comforting her for a long time. After she left, Mrs. Wang sighed with a deeper meaning to Sang Wan, "Fang’er is really a kind-hearted good girl! Gu Jin, while alive, never fully took on the responsibility of a father, but Fangzi being such a daughter to this extent is truly not easy! Her pure filial piety is real! With such a temperament, she surely knows how to be considerate when dealing with others. Miss Wan, wouldn’t you agree?"
How could Sang Wan disagree, and she reluctantly nodded with a smile.
Mrs. Wang then shot her a meaningful glance and smiled, "You think so too, that’s right! You are sisters after all; in the future, you must take good care of her!"
Sang Wan replied with a smile, "Mother, with how capable younger sister is, I’m afraid she might end up taking care of me even more in the future!"
Mrs. Wang, not detecting the hidden meaning in her words, smiled and agreed.
After escorting Mrs. Wang back, Sang Wan dropped by the Jicui Pavilion to report her findings to Third Madam Shi: several pieces of fertile land for sale outside the city, which could be cultivated if bought now. Having listened to Sang Wan’s detailed explanation, Third Madam Shi was deeply moved. Sang Wan suggested that perhaps Mrs. Gui could personally accompany the land guardian to take a look for peace of mind and mentioned that Liu Ya could go along as well.
Knowing that seeing is believing, Third Madam Shi praised Sang Wan for her thoughtfulness and decided that Mrs. Gui and Liu Ya would go out to take a look after breakfast the next day.
After taking her leave to return to Ningyuan, Sang Wan called Liu Ya over and gave her detailed instructions. Although Liu Ya was somewhat puzzled about why Grandma Zhou wanted her to carefully investigate those fields, she had always listened to Sang Wan and thus nodded in agreement.
After dismissing her, Sang Wan leaned back on the couch and sighed deeply. It seemed that her mother-in-law was set on keeping Gu Fangzi. Without saying, even Shi Fengju had to handle the situation delicately, compelled by considerations. He could persist in being unyielding, and his mother-in-law would naturally not be able to do anything to him. Even if displease, she would have to comply in the end, but if things really came to such a pass, his mother-in-law would definitely vent her anger on her. Life then on would not be easy for her.
Gu Fangzi, having endured for so long, once freed, who knew what she would do? Even with Shi Fengju’s protection, it was not guaranteed that there wouldn’t be any mishaps. Sang Wan chuckled at herself; fortunately, now that her elder sister had returned to Meng County, otherwise, she would have to be even more on guard! Sooner or later, she would be exhausted to the brink over this!
"Grandma Zhou, Second Madam Shi’s mother and sister-in-law have come! They are currently with Mrs. Zhou, and Mrs. Zhou and Second Madam Shi are accompanying them. Mrs. Zhou has asked you to come over too!" Xingzhi suddenly announced through the curtains.
"Second Madam Shi? Is it Mrs. Zhou and Grandma Zhou who have come?" Sang Wan got up, ordered Xingzhi to come in and report, feeling puzzled.
"Indeed, it’s them!" Xingzhi lifted the curtain and entered, smiling, "This slave will now help you change into another set of clothes and do your hair so that you can go over! It’s strange, isn’t it? Mrs. Zhou and Grandma Zhou have arrived, but our Second Madam Shi hasn’t come back!"
Sang Wan also found it odd and shaking her head, instructed Xingzhi to help her change. She wore an outer coat of begonia-red glossy satin with a pattern of entwined grapes and apricots, topped with an orange pleated skirt and replaced her hair with a shiny red coral child-and-pearl hairpin. Accompanied by Xingzhi and others, she made her way there.
Just as she arrived in the courtyard, she could hear a commotion inside with the voices of Second Madam Shi arguing with an unfamiliar lady’s voice that must belong to Mrs. Zhou, along with Mrs. Wang and the maids trying to calm things down—an uproar indeed.
Sang Wan halted in her steps and gave Xingzhi a sign to quietly retreat.
