Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!-Chapter 238: Foolishness
A group of menacing people, wielding kitchen knives, charged towards Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai.
Clearly human, yet eager like zombies.
They were once simple villagers, but gradually became more bloodthirsty and ferocious due to their gluttony.
In an instant, purple lightning entwined around Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai.
The villagers stared at the purple lightning, their pupils contracting slightly, halting their steps.
Blazing flames erupted from Butcher Wang’s hands, viciously striking at Leng Yebai.
An elderly man with graying hair had lost all benevolence, replaced with a grotesque demeanor.
A strong stream of water burst from the old man’s hand, targeting Bai Xiqin.
Leng Yebai’s expression was icy, and the lightning around him swelled instantaneously, spreading densely toward the villagers.
"Ah!"
"Ah! We were wrong! Stop!"
"We are human! We are human!"
When eating, they forget they are human. Only when being beaten do they remember their identity.
The villagers’ superpowers were trivial and ineffective against Leng Yebai, but the lightning emanating from him made them suffer unbearably.
Leng Yebai radiated a cold aura, his icy eyes glancing in the direction of Yang Liu Village.
Suddenly, he retracted the purple lightning.
Butcher Wang gave Leng Yebai a fierce glance, but despite his reluctance, turned and fled.
With Butcher Wang gone, the remaining villagers also realized the situation and turned to run.
"Ah, I want to eat you!"
A child of seven or eight, eyes red, seemed driven mad by the virus, brandished a kitchen knife and charged at Leng Yebai.
He couldn’t hold back any longer.
The fresh flesh and blood stood right before him, and not eating it was torture.
Others could restrain themselves, he could not; he simply charged at Leng Yebai out of instinct.
Purple lightning sizzled from Leng Yebai’s fingertips; if the child came any closer, it would be the end for him.
In his eyes, there was no distinction between humans and zombies.
As long as the other harbored malice, he was merciless.
A young man suddenly rushed forward, pulled back the seven or eight-year-old child, hoisted him onto his shoulder, and fled towards the village.
Bai Xiqin stared in the direction of Yang Liu Village, momentarily lost in thought.
A sudden burst of powerful energy erupted over there, probably a High-Rank Zombie.
Likely Third Rank, something Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai could handle, but for these villagers, it was a disaster.
They had eaten many virus-laden mutant animals, evading Low-Rank Zombies, but to the more sensitive High-Rank Zombies, they were merely food.
Leng Yebai said nothing, gently patting Bai Xiqin’s shoulder.
Bai Xiqin came to terms with it.
Those people would eventually become grotesque zombies, further harming more survivors.
Their transformation today was deserved, in a way!
"Xiao Fan, are you done?"
Bai Xiqin called down to Bai Yifan, who was digging for clay at the bottom of the pit.
"Done!"
Bai Yifan filled half a bag with clay, slung it over his shoulder, and carefully climbed up.
Once up, his first instinct was to glance towards Yang Liu Village, relieved when he didn’t see those crazed people.
He wouldn’t be able to run fast with the clay on his back!
Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai walked ahead, leisurely heading towards Baiyang Village.
Bai Yifan followed behind them.
"Sis, did you hear any noises behind us?"
Bai Yifan frowned and glanced back towards Yang Liu Village.
He just couldn’t shake the feeling that things were chaotic there; could their own people really turn on each other?
"No, you must have misheard."
Bai Xiqin replied calmly.
"...Alright!"
Bai Yifan jogged to the front of Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai, feeling somewhat safer.
Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai exchanged a glance, looked back once at Yang Liu Village, faintly glowing red, then continued on without turning back.
It was indeed their retribution.
Even if they didn’t die today, one day, they’d become grotesque zombies, endangering innocent survivors.
Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai said nothing more, heading towards Baiyang Village without looking back.
They didn’t bother harvesting the Third Rank crystal core, feeling it was too tainted with human blood.
Yang Liu Village.
The villagers had fled back to their village, all gathering at Butcher Wang’s house to discuss countermeasures.
Just because they lost this time doesn’t mean they’d lose next time.
Their bloodthirsty nature made them nearly irrational.
However, before Butcher Wang could say anything, a blazing fire suddenly erupted from his house.
"Damn! Butcher Wang, why is your food so fierce!"
Someone’s hair was entirely burned off, retreating repeatedly while clutching their singed scalp.
Butcher Wang, holding his kitchen knife, wanted to rush in to check the situation.
But he heard the sound of chains scraping against the ground.
This was the ultimate food Butcher Wang had raised.
Ultimate food was essentially a villager turned wild and uncontrollable after eating mutant animal meat.
The meat of such creatures was extremely delicious.
Even knowing they’d eventually turn into such monsters, the villagers couldn’t resist eating mutant animal meat.
Once addicted, it was hard to quit.
This "food" was Old Wang, who began eating mutant animal meat around the same time as Butcher Wang.
He was originally the strongest superpower user in Yang Liu Village, with the potential to attack Baiyang Village, but after one meal of mutant animal meat, he went mad.
His face began to ulcerate, like the walking dead outside.
Butcher Wang bound him, kept him in the house, and occasionally fed him fresh meat.
It was merely a matter of waiting for the right time to feast.
Butcher Wang had lost all sense of morality, thinking only how to satisfy his own cravings.
Little did he expect to lose control today.
Old Wang’s body was covered in decaying flesh, his chains severed as if slashed by a sharp weapon, with scorching flames spewing incessantly from his mouth.
The people wanted to flee but found themselves unable to move; gazing at Old Wang, an endless fear surged in their hearts.
This was the suppression of Low-Level Zombies by a High Rank Zombie.
Though they were still human, they were firmly crushed by an overwhelming force, unable to move.
Blazing flames consumed the entire yard until all the villagers were reduced to charred corpses.
"He’s already Third Rank; Butcher Wang is truly foolish."
A gentle male voice sounded.
The courtyard gate opened, and a couple wearing black masks calmly walked in.
Where moments ago the zombie was rampaging, it suddenly quieted, cowering in a corner, not daring to look at the couple.
Low Level Zombies instinctively feared High Rank Zombies.
Yet when it saw these humans, it couldn’t help but tremble.
Because it sensed the two before it possessed immeasurable superpowers, far beyond its ability to contend.
