Chapter 196: Should I Give Him A Chance?

"Alex, Rory..." Danny greeted them calmly. But there was a sparkle of curiosity in his eyes when he spotted Aurora. He couldn’t help but wonder why she chose to meet them here instead of at Serendipity Restaurant, their usual spot.

Alex kept his words brief, offering a faint smile before saying, "Hello," as he sat across from Aurora.

Danny and Renata seemed aware that Alex wished to avoid conversation, focusing instead on Aurora. They both stare at her curiously.

"Rory, why did you suddenly invite us to eat here? Are you all thinking of sharing something important with us?" Danny asked.

Before Aurora could reply, Renata cheerfully said, "Rory, are you trying to share some good news with us?"

Aurora’s lips slowly smear with a mysterious smile as she says, "Go on, try to guess..."

Danny gave up. He gestures for Renata to say it.

"Are you pregnant, Rory?" Renata asked with a bright smile, her eyes sparkling as she glanced at Aurora and Alex.

Aurora, "..."

Alex, "..."

Aurora immediately glanced at Alex after hearing Renata’s question. Alex had already talked about it in the past few days, but she always ignored him.

She turned to see Alex and, surprised to find him gazing at her lovingly with a smile playing at the corners of his lips, she could guess what he was thinking—he wanted her pregnant.

But how could she be pregnant now? They had only made love in the past few days, and she hadn’t noticed any changes in her body. Slowly, she felt her cheeks heat up, imagining their sultry activity.

"Oh my, are you really pregnant, Rory?" Renata gently gripped Aurora’s arm. "Geez...I can’t believe it’s true. Earlier, Danny and I were only guessing.

Renata’s smile widened. She was bursting with happiness.

"Congratulations, Rory!" Danny beamed at Aurora, then turned to Alex. "Congratulations, Alex!"

Alex, "..."

Aurora quickly abandoned her plan to set up Renata and Danny as a couple. She doesn’t want to add any awkwardness to their lovely dinner.

"Wow, Rena...you crack me up, girl. I’m not implying anything, but you’ve already jumped to the conclusion that I’m pregnant."

Aurora paused, letting out a soft laugh.

Noticing the surprised gasps around her, Aurora smiled and added, "I’m seriously not... Besides, I wouldn’t invite you both to dine with us like this if I were. I’ll definitely call you to share the good news, right?!"

Renata feels awful for her incorrect guess. She smiles awkwardly and says, "Sorry, girl... I just make playful guesses when talking with Danny while we wait for you and Alex."

"It’s fine. Alright, let’s just enjoy our dinner," Aurora said faintly, offering Renata a barely noticeable smile.

"Girl, you are right! Let’s enjoy our delicious dinner..." Renata’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she beamed at the servers beginning to bring out their meals.

As they enjoyed dinner, they chatted cheerfully about their jobs and shared experiences with each other.

Deeply engaged, they overlooked Alex, who appeared lost in his thoughts.

Alex was quietly focused on creating plans to support Aurora’s mission, utterly unaware that his wife had already set aside his idea quite a while ago.

As they were wrapping dinner and preparing to head home, Alex suddenly remarked, "Danny, Renata, I hear you guys are getting engaged?"

Suddenly, silence enveloped the room, creating awkwardness between Renata and Danny.

Aurora quietly scolded herself for forgetting to tell Alex she had canceled her plans to play matchmaker for Renata and Danny.

Now, she feels slightly awful seeing both her friends in awkward silence.

"Hahaha, Alex, they are not..."

Aurora shook her head to signal him to stop asking, but Alex didn’t quite catch it.

Alex calmly places the wine glass on the table and looks at Aurora. "Oh, they’re not engaged?"

Aurora nods, feeling relieved; at last, Alex understands the message she conveyed through her gaze.

However, her relief lasts only a few seconds. Alex’s following words are enough to make her nearly choke.

"Oh, not engaged? Does that mean they’re getting married soon?" Alex asked innocently, smiling at Danny and Renata.

Suddenly, Renata sensed a lump in her throat.

"Cough! Cough!" Renata can hardly believe that Alex thought she and Danny were getting married. Where did he get that idea?

Renata takes a deep breath to steady herself as she graciously accepts the water from Danny.

After Renata emptied the glass and felt much better, she turned to see Alex to clarify that he was wrong.

But all the words she was about to say vanished when she saw Danny beginning to respond to Alex.

"Alex, thank you for your words. But, to be honest, we are still far from marriage. Please pray for us so we will marry sooner rather than later, just like you and Rory..." Danny calmly said while smiling at Alex.

Still, his smile slowly faded when Danny felt a pair of eyes staring sharply at him. She could only smile at Renata before avoiding her and seeing Alex again.

"You made the right choice, Danny." Alex nods earnestly. "You are no longer young; you must settle down faster and enjoy married life with the right person. And I heard from my wife that you guys have been in a relationship for a long time?"

Danny stifled a laugh at his words, realizing where Alex had drawn his inspiration. He turned to praise Aurora for her idea, but found her avoiding eye contact with him.

...

When Danny spoke to Alex, Renata leaned closer to Aurora and whispered.

"Girl, what are you trying to do? Please don’t avoid my question; I know what you’re up to, dear..." Renata narrowed her eyes with suspicion.

Aurora smiled innocently at Renata.

"Well, this will be the era when you and Danny are meant to become a couple, Rena. You know he starts to pursue you once more, yet you always give him the cold shoulder."

Renata shook her head and chuckled at Aurora’s playful grin. "I can’t believe you are on his side now..."

Aurora whispered playfully, "I hope both of you find as much happiness as Alex and I do! I really do."

Renata’s expression turned tense as she questioned, "Should I give him a chance, Rory?"

"You should—"
