Chapter 190: Return!

A week later.

Although Aurora spent most of her time at home, she could do many things.

She visited her father in the stone house, where they could chat and watch movies together.

Alex and she tried to hint at her father in the last few days, but it didn’t work out. Eventually, she decided to give up trying.

And today was the day she had been waiting for. She would return to the company.

After a week away from the office, she began to miss David and the others. She also wanted to meet Renata and Danny at the Serendipity restaurant.

...

Aurora feels slightly bored as she waits for Alex, who takes his time in the bathroom. She checks her cell phone for some interesting business news to pass the time.

She was too absorbed in her reading to notice that when Alex had just exited the bathroom, he was standing near her, staring at her in disbelief.

Alex was startled to see Aurora already dressed in her office outfit, even though it was barely eight o’clock in the morning. He usually left for the office at nine.

"Rory, I’m curious...why are you so eager to head to the office?" Alex’s gentle voice caught Aurora’s attention unexpectedly.

"Well, I’m bored staying home; I need some fun. Teasing David might be the excitement I need."

Aurora flashed a playful grin, but as she spotted him in a towel, her smile faltered, and she felt nervous.

"Alex, can you please put something on a bit quicker? We might be running late..."

Aurora calmly urged him, turning her focus back to her cell phone. She was anxious that Alex would cancel his plans to go to the office if he noticed her blushing.

However, Alex didn’t follow her.

Instead, Alex walked closer and stood in front of her. She nervously looked up to meet his gaze, which mirrored a question mark in her eyes.

"Rory, you need to start calling me something other than my name... How about my husband? Darling? Honey? Whatever fits!" he said softly, nearly making Aurora laugh.

This is the first time she has heard this request, and she feels strange calling him like that.

"I’ll try, but don’t rush me, okay?" she responded, noticing the sincerity in his pleading gaze.

"I will wait patiently for you, my love." His face lit up with joy.

Aurora, "..."

She could feel her cheek growing warmer.

"Alright, go put something on now, Ale...hone..." she sighed deeply. "Hubby..." Her voice was barely audible, yet Alex could still hear her.

His smile widened, satisfied to hear her finally call him "Hubby."

"Alright, I will dress faster! I won’t want to make my darling wife wait for me."

Alex rushed to the walk-in closet to put on his office attire. He needed to arrive at the office on time for a meeting with his board of directors.

Aurora was left speechless by his words. She couldn’t believe her former boss, Alexander Graystone, would say such cheesy lines.

...

By the time they reached the Stardust Tower, Aurora was suprised to learn that she would no longer be working as an intern in Patrick Wallace’s department.

She resumed her previous role as a personal assistant. All her former responsibilities returned, and Alex also kindly increased her salary and benefits in this position.

Sitting in Alex’s office for the first time as Aurora Spencer, she was at a loss for words as she listened to him explain everything.

"Rory, are you excited to finally work alongside me?"

Aurora didn’t know whether she should be happy or not.

"Alex, you must be joking. Why do I have to be your assistant again?" she asked, still shocked that he had decided without informing her in advance to prepare herself.

Alex’s loving smile did not make Aurora feel better; she still frowned at him, demanding an explanation.

"Are you aware that I’m not currently seeking your replacement? Plus, Alvin can’t manage everything?"

Alex remarked in a sorrowful tone, rendering her even more at a loss for words.

"Alvin isn’t performing his job as well as I hoped he would; I don’t think I will find anybody who could be on par with your performance. And that is also why I require your help."

Aurora helplessly shook her head as she listened to Alex blame Alvin.

"I understand. But how can you explain to others if they find out I got the job because I’m your wife?" She expressed her concern.

Alex smiled as he stood up from his seat and sat beside her.

He moved closer, halting just an inch from her face. "My darling wife, don’t think of anyone else. All you need to focus on is your hubby..." he said gently.

Aurora felt anxious, concerned that this man might kiss her. "We are in the office, Alex. And you are my boss..."

He takes a deep breath before responding, "I can only work with you, Rory! No one can replace you!"

Aurora, "..."

Alex sees Aurora is still reluctant to accept her new role as his assistant, so he tries to convince her once more.

"Rory, if you return to my side as my assistant, I won’t have to stress about business trips anymore because you’ll be with me. Plus, you don’t need to be jealous about me spending time with another female secretary, right!?"

"You—" Aurora was rendered speechless.

"You accept it?" he asked with a grin.

"Do I have any options? Like, a wife who prefers to stay at home?"

"Certainly! If you prefer to stay home and avoid work, that’s fine. However, I only permit you to remain in your old office while employed at this company. I cannot allow you to return to working with Patrick downstairs!"

"Well, I don’t have a choice now. Do I?" Aurora smiles faintly and adds, "But what did you tell Patrick and our professor? He is aware I came here for an internship."

Aurora worries those people will be confused about why Alex suddenly assigned a fresh graduate with minimum experience to become his assistant.
