Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 188: Sorry, I Can’t Help!
Chapter 188: Sorry, I Can’t Help!
Aurora struggles to contain her emotions when she sees her father walk into the house.
After a brief greeting, she decided not to follow them to the stone house.
Instead, she remained in her study, looking toward her home, which her father now occupied.
She remained still for a moment, flinching only when her cell phone buzzed.
Aurora walked lazily to the desk and was surprised to find a text message from her cousin, Lucas Spencer.
"Aurora, can I call you? Something urgent happened. I need your help."
For a few seconds, Aurora only stared at the text.
She wanted to ignore the Spencer family, but her vow before Aurora Spencer’s parents’ tombstone quickly crept into her mind.
"What the hell did he want?" She mumbled while typing her reply.
"Sure!"
After sending it, Aurora settles onto the sofa, waiting for Lucas Spencer’s call. It doesn’t take long, and his call finally comes through.
"Aurora, thank you so much, sister..." Lucas Spencer’s voice, filled with relief, came from the other end. "I apologize for reaching out to you. However, I have no other choice. I need your help!" His tone became somber.
"Lucas, just straight to the point. No need for flowery talk to me." Aurora replies, starting to regret taking his call.
"Can you help my dad? A police officer just arrived at our house and detained him. Please, Aurora..." Lucas Spencer’s plea surprised Aurora off guard.
She couldn’t recall sending anyone to capture Ryan Spencer since she had already received a large sum of money from him.
"Why did they suddenly capture your dad?" Aurora asked curiously. "Did he beat someone? Or kill...?"
"No. Absolutely not. My dad never harmed or killed anyone. He is innocent," Lucas Spencer said, taking a deep sigh. "However, a few companies have sued him for fraud."
Aurora laughed inwardly, realizing her suspicion was right. Her uncle must be experiencing financial trouble.
"Poor Uncle Ryan..." Aurora softly responds, trying to show her sympathy, though, at this moment, a satisfied flash shines in her gaze.
"I know, right...My dad is just so unfortunate. He does business with the wrong people," Lucas said in annoyance.
"And, when my dad runs into trouble, Uncle Willow is still in the police. Oh, Aurora, would you consider withdrawing your lawsuit against Uncle Willow? We really need him to help guide the company as well."
Aurora smiles bitterly upon hearing Lucas’s pleading tone.
She can’t believe this foolish Lucas would dare to ask her about it, especially when everyone in the family knows how wicked Willow Spencer is. Willow even sent a gangster to attempt to steal her inheritance and plotted to have her killed.
"Lucas, are you seriously saying you didn’t know what Uncle Willow did to me, or are you just so blinded that you allowed him to kill me?" Aurora asked coldly enough to make Lucas apologize on the other end.
"Ugh, Aurora, sorry, sorry... I forgot about it."
"It’s perfectly okay, I forgive you! I was just slightly surprised to learn that you’re similar to Uncle Willow and your dad. I thought you were different..."
Aurora’s disappointed tone only increased Lucas Spencer’s worry from the other end.
"I’m sorry. I truly hope you’ll give me another chance to show you that I’m different from them, Aurora," Lucas Spencer said helplessly.
She chose not to say anything to him anymore, as talking to him only made her mind feel even more tired and worn out.
Just as Aurora was about to hang up the phone, Lucas Spencer’s pleading stopped her.
"Please, Aurora, you are our last chance. Without your help, we risk losing a lot. We could lose our family business and home."
"Lucas, you are speaking to the wrong person. I’m only a jobless orphan; how could I help your dad? I don’t have anything..."
Aurora answered in a miserable tone, trying to make Lucas believe her and stop bothering her again.
"Aurora, can you stop lying to me? We all know you inherited so much money from your dad. I just need you to bail my father out of jail and help pay off his debt. I promise I will pay you back."
She cursed Lucas in her mind upon hearing how casual his words were.
"Well, Lucas, it seems you heard the wrong news. My dad did leave an inheritance, but it’s not all cash. Most of it is tied up in properties that can be quite tricky to sell."
Aurora explained calmly, even though she felt a bit annoyed with Lucas in her mind.
"No way! My father told me you own properties in prime locations across various cities. He mentioned that your lawyer manages all these properties for you. Aurora, you just need to make a quick phone call to your lawyer to sell a few and assist my dad. Please..."
Aurora, "..."
"Lucas, listen... I know I could help, but I just can’t assist your father. I really am sorry!"
She quickly ended the phone call before Lucas had a chance to respond.
After the call ended, she chose to block Lucas from her contacts.
...
Aurora took her time to rise from her seat as her mind wandered, reflecting on her family, the Spencers, and their ever-present greed.
If Lucas said it was true, they might lose the family company and assets, which would be a loss. However, she also didn’t want to have anything to do with that family anymore. They are not her real family, after all.
Sigh!
Aurora gently places her phone on the coffee table and settles back into the sofa, relaxing her eyes and clearing her mind.
Just as Aurora was about to rest her eyes, a soft knock on the door distracted her.
After taking a seat and glancing at the door, she asked, "Yes?"
"Rory, may I come in?" Alex’s voice emerged from behind the door.
"Alex?! Of course." She jumped up and hurried to the door to let him in. She was eager to learn all about her father.
