Chapter 186: Thomas Moon’s Decision!
At Thomas Moon’s house.
Alex feels bad to see how withered his expression has become, and his gaze appears empty. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Thomas Moon had not spoken since leaving Andrew Graystone’s home office. He appeared lost in his own thoughts as if only his body existed while his soul had left him.
Even when Alex trailed him to his house, Thomas Moon didn’t spare him a glance. He only realized Alex was following him when he noticed him walking into his home.
They sat in the living room for almost an hour, lost in their own thoughts.
Just as Alex reached for his phone to text Aurora, Thomas Moon’s hoarse, thin voice shattered the silence.
"Young Master, please tell me what I heard from your grandfather isn’t true." Thomas Moon’s eyes were red as he stared at Alex. "Please say I’m just dreaming right now," he added.
Alex exhaled deeply while attempting to smile at Thomas Moon, even though his smile didn’t reach his eyes.
"Uncle Moon, what he said is all true. I’m sorry for what he did to you, to Rory..." Alex responds softly.
Even as Alex tries to maintain a calm demeanor, aware that Aurora is still with them in these fleeting mortal moments, he feels a familiar agony in his heart—the same heartache he experienced when he knelt before Thomas Moon in the hospital.
Alex’s mind is now filled with memories. The pain intensifies as he sees Thomas crying silently, disappointment and anger clearly reflected in his eyes.
"Uncle Moon, I know there are no words that can truly describe the pain and disappointment you are feeling right now..." Alex’s voice became as heavy as his heart.
He struggled to finish his sentence with his hand clenched tightly, "I apologize for everything my grandpa did."
Thomas lowered his gaze, his eyes brimming with tears. He quietly wept for a moment before finally raising his head to meet Alex’s gaze.
"Can you clarify how the Old Master could do that to Rory? Why did he end her life when my daughter had already said she would leave this household for good?"
Thomas asked, his voice trembling as he fought to contain his anger.
"My poor daughter never had a romantic feeling for you, young master. You know that for sure!" Thomas Moon gritted his teeth before continuing to express his thoughts. "I can attest that my daughter always maintains a clear boundary between her work and feelings. Our family commitment, The Moons, is to serve this family with honor."
"Uncle Moon, I..." Alex’s voice trailed off. He didn’t know how to answer his question because he also didn’t understand why his grandfather had such a shallow mind to do something so low as to take someone’s innocent life so easily.
"I didn’t understand. Why did he treat me and my family this way? Why?!" Thomas felt his heartbeat quicken, a rush of emotions swelling inside him. He took a moment to breathe deeply, trying to calm himself and manage his anger.
"I’m sorry, Uncle..." That’s the only sentence that could escape Alex’s lips at this moment.
...
When Alex noticed Thomas looked slightly better, he finally asked him what he wanted to do with his grandfather.
He needed to know his opinion since Aurora didn’t demand anything. She merely asked her father to live with them and left Andrew Graystone’s fate up to him.
"Uncle Moon, could you please share your thoughts on how to manage my Grandpa? I am ready to follow your wishes... don’t concern yourself with the family’s reputation or any other issues. Just let me know what you need... I will take care of it immediately!"
Thomas Moon was momentarily taken aback by the anger radiating from Alex’s eyes.
Once more, Thomas Moon inhaled deeply for what felt like the umpteenth time before responding, "If I’m asked like that, then of course I want a life for a life!"
A wicked grin crept onto Thomas Moon’s lips before his demeanor gradually shifted to tranquility as he noticed the shock in Alex’s eyes.
"But, I refuse to lower myself like your Grandpa! I won’t harm him... What I truly desire is a peaceful life! As your Grandpa mentioned, I am free to leave this place. He can no longer bind me to the connection between Graystone and Moon. Therefore, I will depart from this house..."
Alex couldn’t hide his shock upon hearing Thomas Moon’s words.
He thought Thomas Moon would ask him to turn his grandfather over to the police. He had already made a plan to help him ensure that his grandfather got the punishment he deserved.
However, how could Thomas Moon calmly say he didn’t need anything but his freedom?
"Uncle, please don’t forgive him so easily. As I said before, I support anything you want. I have evidence to send Grandpa to jail!" Alex clenched his hand tightly, angry at how evil his Grandpa was.
"No need..." Thomas Moon chuckled. "Your Grandpa was too old for his trial; death might have approached him before it began—no need to waste your time. Besides, I wasn’t mad at your family, just your Grandpa. I don’t want to embarrass your father and you because of him!"
Alex finds it hard to believe Thomas Moon said those words. He is genuinely kind, and his kindness is as vast as the ocean, just like his daughter’s.
Silence lingers!
They exchanged glances before Alex shared his intention, asking him to live with him.
"Uncle Moon, you’ve found your freedom. But please, move in with me and let me care for you for the rest of your life..." Alex offered.
Alex’s sincere words instantly stunned Thomas Moon.
"Young Master Alex, what makes you offer this to me?" Thomas Moon asked.
"Because I married your daughter, Uncle. Rory, she is still alive. God gave her the opportunity to be reborn as Aurora Spencer, and she is my wife now. We would like you to live with us..."
Alex’s smile grew broader. He was finally able to share this with Thomas Moon, his father-in-law.
