Rebirth: After Becoming the Villainess-Chapter 209: A Healer’s Benevolent Heart
The Drunken Immortal, the largest restaurant in Sui Ning City.
As the Sui Bei Fortress, Sui Ning City was always bustling with merchant caravans traveling from north to south. However, the harvest had been poor this year, driving up the price of grain and emptying the common folk’s pockets of silver. Business was a bit tougher than in previous years.
As the largest and most luxurious restaurant in Sui Ning City, it housed many foreign merchants. When Song Lianhe entered, the lively atmosphere gave her a familiar feeling, reminding her of Ling’an City.
Song Lianhe found a seat by the window and sat down with Da Xi. "What do you want to eat? Your old master is treating."
Da Xi immediately shook her head.
"Then I’ll order." She waved over a Xiao Er. "Just bring us all of your house specialties."
"Right away!"
Before long, four dishes were set on the table.
The Xiao Er was small and thin, but very sharp. "You two young ladies probably don’t eat much. These are all signature dishes of our Drunken Immortal. Please, start with these, and if it’s not enough, just call for me."
Song Lianhe had a good impression of this Xiao Er. "What’s your name?"
"To answer you, Miss, my name is Fu Wu."
She tossed him a piece of silver. "Fu Wu, this is for you."
Fu Wu caught the silver. He had never met such a generous customer and was both flattered and overwhelmed. "Oh! Thank you, Miss! Thank you, Miss!"
After he left, Da Xi asked, puzzled, "Why did you give him so much silver?"
That piece of silver was more than enough to pay for the meal.
"Let’s just say I took a liking to him."
"You can’t just throw silver around like that, even if you have it..."
Song Lianhe smiled, pursing her lips. She placed some food on Da Xi’s plate and said, "Let’s eat first. We can get a few dishes to go for Sister Mi later, so she can try something new."
As the two were eating, they heard a furious roar from behind them. "You call this damn swill wine? How dare you try to fool me with this watered-down crap?!"
Then came the sound of a bowl shattering to pieces.
Song Lianhe and Da Xi turned to look. A Hu Shang was fuming, and Fu Wu was standing before him, apologizing profusely. "My good sir, please, calm down. It’s not a problem with the Drunken Immortal Pavilion’s wine, it’s that you have such a high tolerance..."
Song Lianhe noticed a cut on Fu Wu’s face, oozing blood. It must have been from the shattered fragments just now. Yet, he kept a smile on his face as he apologized.
The Hu Shang was relentless, looking ready to cause a scene to the very end.
The owner happened to be out on business, and the other waiters didn’t dare to step forward. Only Fu Wu was left to face the man’s fury.
Da Xi snorted. "This isn’t because the wine is bad. He’s clearly just looking for an excuse to cause trouble."
But when she turned her head again, she saw Song Lianhe heading over, carrying a stool.
"Miss!"
Just as the Hu Shang was about to smash an entire wine jug over Fu Wu’s head, Song Lianhe lifted the stool and brought it down on him—
The blow stunned everyone present!
Fu Wu stared blankly at the woman standing protectively in front of him. Compared to the average woman from Sui Bei, her frame was noticeably slender, but the force with which she’d swung that stool was no less than a man’s!
The Hu Shang was also stunned by the blow.
Song Lianhe set the stool down and shook her arm. ’A pity,’ she thought. ’Still not strong enough.’
It wasn’t until the Hu Shang felt something wet on his face and reached up to find his head bleeding that he flew into a rage!
"You damn woman!"
He was a head and a half taller than Song Lianhe, towering over her like a small mountain. Roaring, he swung his arm to slap her—
Song Lianhe neither dodged nor retreated. Instead, she lifted her chin and took a step forward.
Da Xi was scared stiff and scrambled to pull her back. "Miss—"
Just as the Hu Shang’s thick, bear-paw-like hand was about to land, hidden weapons shot out from different directions, striking his arm and the back of his knee. As he instinctively dropped to one knee, Song Lianhe was already being pulled aside, an arm wrapped around her waist.
She froze. She had long suspected that someone was protecting her in secret.
But this person before her... he didn’t seem like someone sent by Zhou Cangyan or Old Man Luo.
The man in white across from her was exceedingly handsome. His eyes were like deep pools, dark and profound, their depths bottomless.
Song Lianhe stared at him, feeling as if she had seen those eyes somewhere before...
His hand rested protectively on her waist, and the look on his face was one of clear anxiety. The way he held her was very intimate.
"Miss!"
Da Xi’s timely cry brought Song Lianhe back to her senses. She politely pushed him away. "Thank you, sir."
The man lowered his gaze. After composing himself for a moment, he looked up again, his eyes now cold. "Miss, do you have any idea how dangerous that situation was?"
Song Lianhe nodded, then smiled. "But I’m fine, aren’t I?"
The man’s brow tightened. He was about to say more when the Hu Shang scrambled to his feet, his face pale. "Who? Who ambushed me?!"
Blood was gushing from his arm and leg. The hidden weapons had clearly pierced to the bone, inflicting a grievous wound.
He then raised his eyes and discreetly scanned the restaurant. He realized someone was protecting her in secret, which was why the woman had been so arrogant and brazen, showing no regard for anyone.
The man snorted to himself. ’A leopard can’t change its spots, it seems.’ He turned to leave.
But then, with a THUD, the Hu Shang collapsed to the floor.
Song Lianhe hadn’t expected her bodyguards to be so ruthless. The man’s face was white with pain, and the restaurant was in chaos. His friends hurried forward, apologizing profusely. They explained in low voices that he was a horse trader from the Western Regions whose horses had recently been stolen by bandits outside Sui Ning City. That was why he had come here to drown his sorrows.
The Hu Shang sat stunned on the floor for a moment, then covered his face and began to sob.
Song Lianhe looked at him and sighed. With the heart of a healer, she couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
She waved Fu Wu over, found a quiet corner, and had two waiters help the man over.
Then, from the satchel she carried, she took out a sharp, finger-length dagger.
"I am a doctor. I’m going to treat your wounds now. Endure it."
The Hu Shang looked at her, now mostly sober. Seeing the sincerity in her eyes, he lowered his head in shame.
Song Lianhe tore open his sleeve. With a swift movement of her knife, she quickly dug out a Mei Hua Dart.
The Hu Shang broke out in a cold sweat from the pain but didn’t make a sound.
She glanced at him before applying medicine and bandaging the wound.
Her technique was practiced; she didn’t even blink as the blade cut, even slicing away a piece of torn flesh. The sight was too much for even Da Xi to watch. The Hu Shang, however, was now certain she was a doctor.
The man who had saved Song Lianhe earlier hadn’t left. He stood outside, his cool gaze fixed on her lovely figure.
They were childhood sweethearts, yet he had never seen this calm and collected side of her.
Though he was reluctant to admit it, he found he couldn’t tear his eyes away.
"Your Highness."
Someone approached from behind and said in a low voice, "Of the two groups that acted just now, one was the Tiger Beak from the Prince Si Mansion. We lost the other group. Please forgive me, Your Highness."
The man lowered his eyes, slowly turned, and walked away. A faint, indifferent smile touched his lips. "It was obviously Uncle Qing’s Chi Xiao."
