Chapter 182: 182 - Bored

(Raven’s POV)

"Hmm, my mana is fully recovered now."

I mumbled, looking down at my hands as faint traces of black light faded away. The flow felt stable again, smooth— like calm water returning to its usual rhythm. I don’t feel tired anymore or whatsoever. My body feels lighter, my breathing more natural.

After fighting the succubus and training against Kendy, I really drained my mana empty. It was like every single drop inside me had been sucked dry and burned all at once.

’If it wasn’t for Professor Kendy being there when I passed out, it would’ve been dangerous.’

I thought, stretching my body, feeling the muscles in my arms loosen. The joints popped slightly. It was strangely satisfying.

I’m currently on my way out of the forest now. The wind brushing against the leaves carried the faint scent of damp soil.

A lot had happened more than I expected. Originally— I only planned to kill some majins and go back to the gate. That was it. A simple hunt, clean and quick.

But instead, I encountered a low-rank succubus, and thus, I got my first demon kill.

Even now, just thinking about that fight makes me sigh. Nothing ever goes as planned for me.

Whenever things are going well, the Transcend Beings do shits to make me suffer, just to cease their boredom.

It’s annoying as fuck.

The only thing stopping me from cursing the fuck out of them is the rewards they give afterwards— the [Character Points].

I can use them to buy things from the system shop and request items or skills. That’s the only reason I’m not strangling the air and yelling at the sky like an idiot right now.

It helps me get stronger.

And it’s a really great help that I need now that I reached my rank limit.

Anyway, I encountered monsters and majins on my way here— but I ignored the monsters and went around them since I was still recovering. Their presence didn’t even interest me anymore.

But I killed majins whenever I saw them.

’Cleaning up some trash on my way isn’t that hard, after all.’

Kendy is doing a good job keeping strong enemies away from me. I only encountered majins my rank and below.

I don’t know where he is though. I know he’s keeping an eye on me, but I can’t sense him at all. Not even a single trace of mana.

This just made me realize again— the difference between me and S ranks.

Yes, I did get a lot stronger, and fast at that too. But I still have a long way to go to survive the incoming disaster.

"Haaaah... Why can’t I just have an innate talent like the main characters?"

I grumbled as I continued walking, stepping over a thick root and brushing away a branch that got in my way.

Raven got out of the forest not long after, and when he looked at the time—

[1:07 PM]

It was still kind of early. Too early, in fact.

He immediately frowned after realizing that.

’I have to stay here for hours, waiting for them.’

Raven grumbled in his head, tapping his foot on the ground out of mild irritation.

He looked at the gate— it was still closed, and above the walls, there were guards stationed. Not academy ones, but proper heroes deployed by the Federation.

Their eyes were trained on Raven, some narrowing slightly as if suspicious.

Not that he could blame them. He looked like a sore thumb waiting to be noticed— standing alone in front of the gate while every other student was out doing their own thing.

Raven shook his head, deciding to ignore their stares. He went closer to the side of the gate and settled there quietly.

He took out a retractable chair from his spatial storage with a small motion of his hand. The metallic sound of it unfolding echoed faintly.

But he knew he’d die of boredom if he just sat there, staring into space for hours. Doing nothing was torture.

So after sitting down—

He pulled out a book from his storage space.

[Dominating Darkness Sword Technique]

"Guess I’ll read this for the time being."

Raven mumbled, setting the book on his lap.

He already had Sariel memorize everything in it, but it didn’t hurt to skim through again.

Currently, Sariel was using [Understanding] to identify the reason why anyone who learns this swordsmanship goes insane.

And according to him, it would take a few days to finish.

’If it’s just a normal curse that affects one’s mind, then I wouldn’t have a problem. [Emperor’s Aura] will protect me from any mental attack.’

Raven thought as he flipped another page, eyes glancing over the dense script.

"In that case, I’d be able to learn this without altering anything from it. Though, I still need to make sure."

He muttered.

"I don’t want to be some kind of mid-rank villain in my own novel after all."

Then he said, half-joking, flipping through the book again.

Minutes passed like that, the pages rustling softly— until he finally sighed.

"Ugh, this is so boring."

Raven frowned and stored the book away again.

He felt restless.

Which was weird for him, because he was used to being lazy. Used to spending his time in peace.

But he realized that ever since coming into this world, he’s been doing nothing but training, fighting, and surviving.

[You’ve got used to moving your body now, huh.]

Sariel appeared and said that.

’Unfortunately, yes.’

Raven replied with a frown.

"Should I just accept Kendy’s offer and head back to the hotel early?"

He muttered, debating with himself. His hands itched to hold his sword again, to feel that weight and focus that came with every swing.

[Huh...?]

At that moment, Sariel spoke again, his voice sounding slightly confused in Raven’s head.

’What is it?’

Raven asked, glancing at the system window.

[I don’t really know but... The Transcend Beings want me to tell you they have a surprise for you that will ease your boredom.]

Then, Sariel explained calmly.

[You’ll see what it is soon, they said.]

He added.

Raven’s frown deepened immediately after hearing that.

Those guys were never up to something good, after all.

Every time they did something, it somehow turned into a pain in his ass.

"..."

Raven opened his mouth, about to say something—

-’Raven!’

When a familiar, sweet voice suddenly rang inside his head.

"Huh?"

He turned his head behind him, confused.

SWISH~

And saw a bluish orb flying toward him at terrifying speed. It was Levina!

Before Raven could even react—

FWIP!

Levina reached him and quickly hid inside his jacket like a small light vanishing into the fabric.

’What are you doing here?’

Raven asked telepathically, still blinking in surprise.

-’Well, it’s my first time really going out of the Human Domain. I’ve been stuck in the Academy ever since I came here, so I thought of going with you to look around a bit more!’

Then, he received her cheerful reply.

Hearing her words made Raven feel a pang of guilt.

Levina was stuck in the Academy with Ruby because he wasn’t strong or confident enough to reveal her existence to the world.

He thought she had more freedom when she was still in the [Mysterious Woodland].

But then—

-’Don’t make that face, I’m having a lot more fun ever since I got contracted with you.’

Levina said softly.

Raven went silent.

-’I’m glad I met you!’

She added, voice bright and genuine.

The frown on Raven’s face faded instantly, replaced by a small, quiet smile.

"Haha, I’m happy to hear that."

He muttered.

"Did you make sure nobody saw and detected your presence?"

Then he asked.

-’Yeps!’

Levina immediately replied, her tone full of pride.

"Alright, let’s do some exploring."

Raven rose from his chair, his mood slightly lifted.

-’Yay!’

Levina’s voice echoed cheerfully in his head, full of excitement.

And with that— the two quietly began to move away from the gate.
