The presence of a priest in our conversation came as a surprise to me, but it got interesting after that.

In the darkest hours of the night, just after midnight, when Giggs and Grace had arrived in Michigan from London and stepped into the airport, a group of children, none looking older than ten, walked up to them.

A quick scan showed that there was no one watching over the kids. Not even the airport security paid them any attention.

Both Giggs and Grace had immediately gone on alert at their appearance, but then the kids suddenly began screaming, terror in their voices and eyes as they ran toward Giggs and Grace, seeking protection.

Grace and Giggs tried to back away, telling the kids to stay back, but they quickly swarmed them, surrounding both adults with their small, frightened bodies.

"I lost my sense of what was happening, but when I did regain my senses, I found myself throwing a punch at a man dressed in white robes."

"Was that the priest?"

"Yes. Other than that hit, I didn't get to inflict any more attacks as I was swarmed by four knights."

"Where were you when you regained your senses?"

"Out of the airport, in a town some distance away."

"Grace?"

"She was nowhere in sight."

"You said you fought four knights. What made you think they were knights?"

"They had super strength and were really fast."

"Those are characteristics, sure, but that doesn't make them knights. Several other people in the world are also super strong and fast."

"How about the priest?"

"Yeah, that is an irregularity. But I still stand by my words."

After dealing with Bettany and Mike, especially after entering the Hyde Park tunnel, I believed I had a rough feel for what the Church wanted. And right now, I saw no reason for such a historic force to be under the control of some billionaires in Michigan who didn't like me.

It was crazy that I was making such an important conclusion based solely on my feelings, but it felt so very right. Rather than upset my body by fighting against it, I accepted it.

The feeling is familiar, I muttered in my head, taking a deep breath.

"Can I conclude that both you and Grace were put under an illusion?" I asked, going for another sip of orange juice. The glass touched my lips, but no liquid entered as I heard Gigg's reply.

"No."

I set the glass down and looked at the man intently.

"At first, I thought like you, that it was an illusion. But it all felt just too real.

Even after three days, the memory is still strong in my head. I can still hear the terror and fear in the kids' voices. The hope in their eyes is still vivid.

"I felt so strongly about the encounter that I decided to change my strategy. Rather than look for Grace, I went looking for the kids. I clearly remembered some of their features and used them in my search. Two days later, I got matches with kids in three locations in Michigan.

Two were hospitalised, and one was in a Catholic orphanage."

Giggs made sure to stress the word Catholic, but he didn't elaborate.

"I was wary of drawing attention from our enemies, so I avoided the kid in the orphanage and focused on the ones hospitalised."

So far, since we started speaking, Giggs had been calm, but now a feeling of both anger and sadness consumed him. His emotions were clearly agitated by what he was about to say next.

"The two hospitalised kids are Ryan and Tobi.

Since I had to meet them away from the eyes of doctors and other personnel, the kids were at first wary. But eventually, I got them to warm up to me and even reveal the truth that they had indeed been out of the hospital and at the airport.

They didn't recognise me, and their memories were inconsistent, but what I gathered was that, to get them to the airport, they had each been promised something.

Tobi, who was the only survivor of a ghastly accident that took his parents, was promised that they would be returned.

Ryan, who was blind, was promised he'd get his sight back—and in that way, win back the family who had abandoned him.

These promises were used to keep the kids quiet and obedient… to mould them into useful pawns."

"Were you able to get any info out of them?"

"No. But sticking around with them led me to my targets. I tailed them to their hideout."

"Seems there's something more bothering you."

"Ryan was found dead this morning. Apparently, he overdosed."

"Didn't you say he was a kid in the hospital?"

"I did. The hospital is keeping the news under wraps. The boy has no one to speak for him."

"Your words are painting a nasty image of this city, Giggs."

"Maybe because it is a nasty one. The powers here run deep."

Considering I had just survived an assault by five gunmen and a bona fide sniper, I decided to reserve judgment on Giggs' words.

"I guess you're out for blood," I said, standing up.

"Very much."

"Let's go meet Tobi. I want to check something."

Giggs was a bit surprised by my sudden request, but he nodded and followed me out of the restaurant.

Tobi was hospitalized at a teaching hospital, and there at the receptionist desk, Giggs shared with the lady my identity and our interest in hearing Tobi's story.

Of course, the hospital wasn't just going to let us in because we claimed to be wealthy and had good intentions. That was where Lin came in and smoothed out the interaction.

"You didn't tell us your name," I said to the lady ahead— the nurse who had been directed to lead us.

"Oh, sorry. Oprah Tucker."

The lady was a little stiff, and I figured she was either shy or knew a bit about my identity.

"Or is it Giggs?" I looked back at the man, whose face was tightened into a frown as he walked like my personal guard.

"Definitely him."

Ignoring her peril, I focused back on the thing that had made me ask for the woman's name, her ass cheeks moving quickly and admirably beneath her white office outfit.

Dear system, please consider giving me the ability to clone myself. Think of all the cheeks I could've clapped if I could spare a bit of myself.
