Chapter 27: Escape

Leo froze in shock, scared of turning into dust as the barrier passed him. But it didn't hurt, on the contrary, it was rather pleasant.

In an instant the runes compressed onto Blackbeard's body, engulfing him completely.

They shone brightly, turning to the same color as the energy of his ghostly comrades.

Then, silently, all of the runes and the Apex's body turned into ash, which was gracefully carried into the sea by a breeze.

Right after, he could see the younger version of Blackbeard joining his family and singing shanties together.

"Thank you, young man, you can take what's rightfully yours."

Blackbeard pointed towards a spot in the ground, marking it with a red X before he went back to enjoy his time with the crew.

Slowly but surely, they faded from his vision as their journey to the afterworld began, leaving Leo alone on the mountain peak.

Just to show his respects to The Apex of Piracy, he stood there with his back straightened and his head held up high, humming the same tune Blackbeard did minutes ago.

His inventory appeared with new armor—an entire set. He took it out and looked at how it looked. It was a work of art.

A fitted black coat with jagged, dark armor for his arms and shoulders. Blue energy pulsed through the details and a tattered cloak flowed behind, adding to the clothing's aura. The gloves and belt had small handmade engravings resembling a dragon on them.

'This looks a bit over the top...'

The stats certainly were, as Leo opened his mouth wide while reading them. All of the clothing counted as one item but replaced all previous things he had on him.

Next, he went towards the marked spot on the floor. Digging with his hands to find the treasure left behind.

thud

He struck against a solid surface, an enormous chest with everything The Apex had left behind.

With a loud creak, the chest opened. It was tempting to take things from it as there was enough gold to supply the entire country for a month and accessories that would tenfold his strength in an instant.

However, the black staff was the only part he was interested in. He put it in his inventory and started to slowly trek downward from the mountain, having completed it.

Leo shook his head in amusement, surprised Cien would be so dense for a sentient system.

'I thought you might know about curses.'

...

Both of them waited for a window to pop up, but it never did. It was unusual in both of their experiences for Biel to just not answer, especially since she was always there before to scold her brother.

|Yes it is, it is a play on the words "Take what's rightfully yours"|

<...Okay>

Once she came back, they decided to change the subject back to the topic at hand as Leo opened his status window.

'This will break their minds once I come back.'

Leo thought to himself while going downwards, not paying enough attention to what was happening in front of him.

"We have found the target Commodore!"

A group of marines ran back downwards as soon as they spotted Leo. It seemed that the Sea God had finally let the navy know about them.

Luckily it seemed that they overestimated his capabilities due to him being affiliated with Blackbeard, so he decided to use it to his advantage.

"HA HA HA HA! Run from me you little pests!"

His bluff worked as they dropped their weapons and ran even faster, tripping over the rocks on their way down.

Once he got to the bottom though, the fun turned into stress as a legion of marines stood there, at least 300 of them surrounded him.

The bulkiest one of them, with a thick coat, walked out towards the summoner. He took out a scroll from his pocket and read it out.

"Leo Astralis, Dead or Alive 100 000 gold bounty."

Then, he hid the scroll and took out an enormous rifle from under his jacket, turning from looking like a fat man to an extremely skinny one.

"And now that we have read you this, you are legally marked as a Pirate to be hunted."

A barrage of bullets shot right after, Leo barely had time to change into the hermit style but the damage was still far from sustainable.

[HP 1 310/1 500]

Compared to before, where even a single bullet grazing him would feel like a life-threatening injury, now he could take a firing squad head-on.

'Maybe I could...'

He thought of trying to fight them when a sudden loud shot alerted all of them.

A cannonball hit right into the Marines, killing a bunch of them.

'Wait I got XP, that means.'

Leo looked towards the source of this attack. To his surprise, a ship made entirely out of slime sailed on the shore nearby, at its helm, Gloppy with his new Cutlass.

"All slimes to the muster station!"

One after another, they swarmed the marines and forced them to retreat.

"To the ship! We need to regroup!"

In less than a minute, Leo traversed almost a kilometer to get to the Slimy Pearl, high-fiveing Gloppy as he approached the steering wheel.

He froze for a moment as he saw a busty demon in marine clothes hugging the slime.

They both stared at each other with a very serious expression. Leo's eyes gave the 'So happy for you my man.' vibes while Gloppy's looked more like 'It's not what it looks like.'

"How did the mission go, where is The Fearmonger."

Gloppy pointed towards the woman who was all over him, his expression unchanging.

"Hai hai! That's me, and this is the man who saved me!"

SPLASH!

Their reunion was short-lived as the navy was already chasing them, barraging the Slimy Pearl with countless cannonballs.

One of them hit them head-on, causing a hole the size of a building to form on the lower part.

However, none of the slimes were stressed as Sapphire commanded a few of them to merge with the ship and repair the exterior.

While they were sailing, Leo noticed a wind picking up between two navy vessels.

Crack crack

A portal outside appeared right there. In an instant The Slime Overlord rotated the wheel to change the direction into it, almost making everyone fall over.

"That's our chance! We need to get out or we will be stuck here!"

Damage that they suffered increased greatly as they were now an easy target to hit.

"We won't make it..."

Sapphire sobbed. As the summoner heard it, he took the Water Spirit Staff out of his inventory and poured all remaining Summoner Slots into it.

Under the Slimy Pear, swam an enormous shadow.

ROOOOARRR!!!
