Chapter 65: Off To School

"The two of you, what are you waiting for? Leave now and prepare for school."

"Yes, Grandpa." The twins chorused. They exited the dining hall gracefully. There was a vast difference from the way Amaya exited earlier

"Father, forgive me for Amaya’s uncouthness. I did not train her well. I will reprimand her governess." She lowered her head and sounded apologetic.

"What are you saying, Nelida? You cannot change habits that were formed for so many years overnight. You and Ibarra should not be too strict on her." King Duncan finished his coffee and left the dining hall.

Nelida clenched her fists under the table. She was trying to degrade Amaya’s reputation before her father-in-law but she did not expect him to dote on her instead. She needed to work harder to discredit her.

Amaya hurried to the royal kitchen and prepared the medical concoction for her grandmother. She thought of teaching Lilia how to do it but she reconsidered as mistakes can be made.

"Good morning, Grandma." She greeted her warmly. She gestured for her caretaker to help her out of the bed and sit on the couch. She poured the medicinal concoction from the teapot into the cup and served it to her grandmother.

"Drink it while it is still hot, Grandma."

"Thank you, Aya. You are such a good child." She then obediently finished the entire cup.

"Your complexion is getting better. How about I bring you to the garden this Saturday when I don’t have school?" Amaya looked at her grandmother expectantly.

"Sure." The queen’s wrinkled face bloomed with a smile.

"I have to get going, Grandma. Today is my first day of school and I am excited. I’ll drop by when I come back in the evening." She kissed her grandma at the forehead like how his Daddy would kiss her before darting out of the room.

The queen’s mood greatly improved. "What do you think of my grandchild, Mayumi?"

"She is such a good child, My Queen. I didn’t know how could she make you drink this tea obediently." The caretaker checked the teapot and noticed that there was some tea left. She will send that later to the palace physician for them to check the contents.

The queen’s complexion indeed improved after taking it for three days. She also slept better and became less irritable.

When Amaya went back to her room, she noticed a few missed calls from Marx. She sent him a message to tell him to call back after 20 minutes. She hurriedly changed into her uniform.

Lilia prepared above-the-knee socks for her and maroon sneakers with a white stripe at the toe are. She braided a handful of her hair at both sides and secure them at the back with a black hairband.

"Thank you, Lilia. My hair looks tidy and lovely."

Lilia blushed at being complimented. She accompanied Amaya until they reached the fountain at the front of the palace where Amaya’s assigned car was waiting.

The chauffeur opened the car door at the back seat and waited for Amaya to settle down before closing the door and getting into the driver’s seat.

"Will be the one to always send and pick me up from school?"

"Yes Princess," the driver replied politely.

"What is your name?" Amaya asked.

"My name is Eduardo, Princess."

"Let’s get going, Alberto. Drive carefully."

The chauffeur simply nodded.

Amaya became silent and kept looking at her phone. After a few minutes, her cell phone rang. She put the earbuds in her ears before accepting the video call. She smiled brightly at the screen.

"Marx, how are you?"

"I am well. Is that your school uniform?"

"Yes, it is pretty cool. The skirt looks very cute.

Amaya moved her cell phone downward to show Marx’s skirt.

"It looked nice but I can’t see properly. Are you nervous?"

"A little bit. Do you think my classmates will like me?" Amaya sounded uncertain.

"Well, some people will definitely like you, and some people will not." Marx shared his thoughts honestly. "You will not be able to please everybody no matter how much you try so just be yourself."

"Thank you for your advice. I will definitely remember that." Amaya checked the gold watch on her wrist. Her Daddy Ibarra has given that to her the other day. It looked beautiful. It was telling her that the time was almost 8:00 am.

"What time is it in Usturia now?"

"There is a twelve-hour time difference between Usturia and Lireya. We are ahead by 12 hours so it is already 7:45 pm here." Marx explained patiently.

"I see. Then have you eaten dinner?" Amaya could see that Marx was lazily lying down on the bed. His other hand was at the back of his head while the one should have been holding the cell phone.

"Yes, I have eaten." Marx shifted into a sitting position. He was now leaning against the dark wooden headboard of his huge bed.

"Are you already going to sleep? Isn’t it too early? Or are you tired from the travel?"

Marx laughed. It was a hearty one and different from his usual suppressed chuckles. Amaya was dazed to see a depression on both sides of his cheeks. How come she did not notice that before?

"Yeah. I am tired. I suppose it is the jet lag." Marx noticed that Amaya was looking at him strangely. "What’s wrong."

"Nothing. I just noticed that you have dimples on both of your cheeks. It makes you look really good. You should laugh often."

Marx was speechless. Did she only notice his dimples right now? Did that mean she did not see him laugh before? Marx could not help but grin from ear to ear when he remembered her saying that he looked good.

"Marx, I think my heart just skipped a bit when you smiled liked that," Amaya said without a filter.

The car suddenly swerved to the right. Amaya let out a scream and dropped her cell phone on the floor.

"Amaya!"
