Raised From The Wild-Chapter 50: Lunch With The Two Gents
Dave, who was sitting in the passenger seat of the jeep wrangler looked back at Marx with a glint in his eyes. He was curious what will his answer be to Amaya’s request. Her body was tilted toward Marx and she was looking at him with doe-like eyes.
Marx cannot find it in his heart to reject her but thinking about safety, he cannot allow her to eat in such a crowded fast-food eatery. He glanced at the man in front who was looking at him with interest.
"Do you know of a quiet restaurant that serves fried chicken and french fries?" Marx stressed the word quiet.
Dave chuckled softly. He directed his gaze to the driver. "Let us go to Lola’s"
Lola’s was a famous restaurant whose specialties were different chicken recipes. The car took a U-turn and after a few minutes entered a smaller road before they stopped in front of the building with unique architecture. The roof was shaped like a traditional Lireyan hat, with a pointed top and a wide brim.
The facade of the building was made of several types of the country’s hardwood, coconut shells, and specially engineered coconut lumber. Even Marx was impressed by the unique architecture.
The palm trees and the beautiful flowering plants that surrounded the building added to its unique charm and comfy ambiance.
"How beautiful. I would like my house on the island to be like this, Marx." Amaya exclaimed with childlike wonder. She came closer to examine the wall. She placed her fingers on the wall and she could tell that it was made from hardwood accentuated by compressed coco lumber.
Dave was starting to be embarrassed by Amaya’s show of curiosity on a wall. Which guest in her right mind would approach a wall and look at it closely to the point that her face was a kissing distance from it? Dave looked around. It was a good thing that there were no customers outside, otherwise, Dave would find a hole to hide. He nudged Marx and gave him a meaningful look. Marx glared at him.
"Aya, let’s go inside." Marx did not sound like his normal bossy self and Dave smirked.
Amaya reluctantly peeled her gaze off the exterior walls of the restaurant and obediently followed Marx in the direction of the entrance. She looked back and noticed the two royal guards assigned to her were also heading to the restaurant.
"Are they dining with us?"
"No," Marx replied curtly. "Their duty is to keep you safe. They will eat when it is convenient for them to eat."
Amaya nodded and followed Marx inside the waiting area of the restaurant.
The receiving area was spacious with a high ceiling. There were sofas in varied shapes and sizes where people can relax while waiting for their rooms to be prepared. The common denominator of those sofas was that they were all made of native materials.
When Amaya looked up, she gasped when she saw the massive chandelier made from coconut shells.
"Amazing." She exclaimed. "The one who designed this chandelier must be a genius. This looks better than the ones in Asteria Palace.
Both men looked at the chandelier suspended in the high ceiling. The chandelier indeed looked good but Marx and Dave liked the crystal chandeliers better.
Amaya suddenly remembered the torch holders that her daddy built in their main house by the beach. They were made from bamboo tubes. Unfortunately, they eventually burned when she forgot to put out the torch.
A tall and slender waitress received them. She has a pretty and charming face. She respectfully bowed to Amaya and the two men with her.
"Welcome to Lola’s Princess Amaya, Sir Dave Johnson, and our special guest. Allow me to escort you to your room. This way please." The waiter said courteously, then she led them to one of the twelve private rooms. The rooms were named after the twelve provinces of Lireya.
Karles was the smallest of all the provinces and it was the room assigned to the trio. The waiter handed the three of them the menu. There was a separate menu for restaurant specialties.
Amaya studied the photos and ordered the house chicken specials meal set. It consisted of two fried chicken, french fries, a taco, spaghetti, mushroom soup, garlic bread, and freshly squeezed four kinds of seasonal fruit. She hasn’t eaten spaghetti and taco and she can’t wait to see how they looked and tasted.
Marx and Dave ordered steak with mashed potato and asparagus.
While waiting for the food to be served, Amaya studied the dining table inlaid with crushed polished coconut shells. All other furniture has used coconut as raw material and the overall result was simply captivating.
"Do you think I can ask the people who build this restaurant to build my house on the island? She asked Marx.
"Of course. Dave will take care of that for you."
Dave almost choked on the water he was drinking.
"Of course. Since you agreed to do the documentary with tour animal friends, I’ll help you with building your house."
Amaya smiled and thanked him. He paused and cannot take his eyes off her. He was mesmerized by her smile. Marx glared at him and he coughed lightly.
The waiter came in with their food. The waiter placed her order in front of her. Amaya eagerly looked forward to the chicken meal set.
Her gaze fell on the taco and spaghetti on her plate. The taco was wrapped a think wax paper and by instinct, she extend her hand and grab the taco. She brought it to her mouth and heard a crunch when her teeth sunk into the tortilla. A savory flavor spread from the tip of her tongue to her entire mouth. She finished it in two bites.
"Drink your soup first before it gets cold." Marx reminded her while pushing the bowl toward her.
Dave cast a glance at Marx. When did the cold CEO become so caring?
Amaya obeyed him. She picked up the spoon provided with the soup and scooped the smooth liquid and put it into her mouth. "It tastes good." She muttered.
She looked at the two men in front of her and looked back at the bowl of soup. She contemplated for a while before putting the spoon down then she brought the bowl to her mouth and drank the soup in one go.
