Chapter 45: Did You Sleep With Him?

After dinner, Amaya sent a message to Marx.

Amaya: I am bored. Can we look at the stars?

Marx: Alright. Let’s meet at the fountain at the entrance of the palace.

Amaya did not waste any more time and went out of her room. Lilia, a personal maid assigned to her who was watching outside the door asked. "My princess, where are you going?"

"I’m going to look at the stars. Do you know of a place where I can get a full view of the sky?"

Lilia stared at her blankly. She was not sure what the princess wants.

"You can try the front lawn, my princess." Lilia was unsure of her answer. "Or the North Garden." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Amaya went to the front of the palace where the fountain was. It was more beautiful at night because of the effects of the lighting. A spotlight was focused on the sculpture of the first king of Lireya. His features were similar to that of her father.

"Have you waited for long?" A deep voice sounded from behind Amaya.

Amaya turned around and faced Marx. "Not really. I just also arrived. Lilia said that we can watch the stars from the North Garden."

Lilia led the way to the garden. It was the same one where they met with the general earlier.

"Lilia, you can leave us now." Amaya instructed her maid to go away.

Amaya found a patch of trimmed green grass and she just carelessly lay down her arms under her head.

Marx sighed. ’This girl.’ It was a good thing that she was wearing trousers and a long-sleeved cardigan top.

Marx joined her on the green patch. The Bermuda grass was recently mowed. He placed his jacket on the grass and gestured for Amaya to move and use his jacket as the mat.

"How about you? I should have asked Lilia to bring a mat over here." Amaya said gently while shifting her body to where the jacket was.

"Don’t worry, the grass is soft." Marx lay beside her. He also used his arms as his pillow.

"I can’t find Mommy and Daddy’s stars," Amaya said gloomily.

"We are in a different part of the world now so you shouldn’t be looking for them from the same place. Let me see." Marx pondered for a while, then he pointed southwest. "There they are."

"Right. You’re great Marx. I haven’t figured it out." Amaya blurted out.

A half smile appeared on Marx’s face. He was not lying too close to Amaya but he can smell the subtle floral scent from her hair and body.

"Why are the stars seem dimmer?"

"It is because the night light coming from the palace makes them appear dimmer."

Amaya was silent for a long time. She was studying the night sky. Then she turned sideways to face Marx.

"I’d like to see my animal friends Marx. I missed them. It has been a few days since I last visited them."

"We can only go after your Daddy Ibrahim’s funeral, so we can visit them in two days."

"Am I not so supposed to go anywhere during Daddy’s wake?" Amaya asked.

"Yes," Marx replied briefly.

"I will be going back to Usturia three days from now. Before I leave let’s visit the island and talk to the owner. He has some conditions before selling the property."

"Conditions?"

"He wanted to keep his current residence and keep a hectare of land and he should have free access to the roads leading to the port."

"It seems not bad. If it is me I would ask the same way especially if I am attached to the residence."

Another silence. Both of them continue gazing at the dark expanse above.

"Aya, be wary of your uncles. I don’t trust them and I can’t be here for you always." Marx’s voice was soft and regretful. If only he can keep her inside his pocket so she can be with him always. But Amaya needed to grow up and she needed that space. He cannot be selfish.

"Don’t worry Marx. I will be careful."

Marx stole glances at the woman lying beside her and released a long breath. He will definitely miss her.

They heard footsteps coming their way. The footsteps seemed to be in a hurry. A bright light was directed at her and Marx. Gasps were heard from the people who were standing on the pathway not far from where Marx and Amaya were lying down.

"Cousin, how can you do this? What if a paparazzi caught you and took photos of you?" Zanzara exclaimed in a loud voice.

Marx stood up. He extended his hand and help Amaya stand up. He picked up his jacket and dusted away the leaves that got stuck on the fabric. He placed the jacket on Amaya’s shoulders.

Zanzara and Tatiana both gritted their teeth. They were jealous of how Marx showed such care and gentleness to Amaya.

"What did I do?" Amaya asked innocently. "We are just watching the stars."

"Cousin, it is not appropriate for a princess like you to be alone with a man at night." Tatiana tried to explain.

"Why not, we are not doing anything immoral. We just lie down and talked. " Marx spoke harshly.

"Cousin, you are being called to the king’s study," Zanzara said smugly. She looked at Amaya as if she was looking at a whore.

Amaya and Marx went with Tatiana, Zanzara, and a few of the guards to the king’s study. The king and crown prince were there along with the princess consort.

"Greetings Your Majesty, Your Highness, and the Princess Consort." The group who entered the study greeted the three royals and bowed to them.

The king dismissed the guards and even his two granddaughters. Zanzara and Tatiana however pleaded to stay.

The king looked at Amaya gently and spoke. "What you did just now is inappropriate for a princess."

"But Grandpa I don’t understand. What’s wrong with lying down on the grass and watching the stars? We did that every night back in Miraga." Amaya stubbornly asked.

"Your life is different now Amaya. You are the first princess. You should consider your actions carefully and take care of the Rocas reputation. Your governess will teach you etiquette." Prince Ibarra interjected. "You have already met Clarissa right?" Amaya nodded.

Zanzara suddenly remembered something. Amaya and Marx were marooned on the island and there were just the two of them. Was the reason why Marx was so gentle towards Amaya because they already slept together?

Zanzara cannot keep her curiosity to herself.

"Cousin, back on the island, did you sleep with him?"
