Chapter 357: The True Culprit

The man gently touched the face of the Princess on the screen of his phone. He breathed deeply and an agonized look appeared in his eyes. He closed his eyes and when he opened them again, his orbs were expressionless.

...

In a luxurious suite at the Celestial Hotel, directly across from Alpha University, Adelle Black flung a teacup at the maid attending to her. The delicate porcelain connected with the young woman’s forehead, causing blood to flow from the sizable wound. Despite the pain and shock, the maid did not make a sound, instead using her trembling hand to apply pressure and staunch the bleeding.

She screamed, "Get your ugly face out of this room," and was about to hurl the glass, but the maid bolted out of the room as fast as she could.

"I can’t believe it. How could she escape unscathed!" She picked up the phone that she threw on the carpet and dialed a number.

"Dad, I’m really upset. I don’t understand why Hailey got injured when she wasn’t even the one who crossed the finish line first. The person responsible for designing those defective bombs needs to be held accountable." Adelle expressed her frustration during the phone call.

The voice on the other end of the line spoke with a deep, ominous tone, causing a shiver to run down my spine as I listened intently. "Honey, don’t blame the bombs. Those are not defective. The Princess of Lireya is not a simple woman. Stop trying to harm her. If you continue, you will get exposed," the voice warned, each word resonating with a sense of impending danger.

"Daddy, are you protecting her? Am I your daughter or is she?" She sounded wronged.

"Although you’re my favorite daughter, it’s important for you to put an end to your manipulative behavior. Uropa University is currently facing serious challenges, and Charles, who serves as the Chancellor, is also being impacted. Keep in mind that your engagement is just a few days away."

Adelle fell silent for a moment before expressing her frustration. "But Dad, I cannot bear the thought of losing. I’ve been defeated by her three times. How can I face my friends and find peace at night? I won’t rest until I’ve overcome her. The person who can defeat me is not been born yet."

Adelle froze as she heard a booming voice from the other end. "I told you to stop. Don’t test my patience," the voice commanded. There was a moment of silence before the speaker seemed to realize the harshness of his words. "You have to remember, there will be people who are better than you, but there will be more who should be lesser than you," he added with a hint of regret.

"Dad, all those years of training and mentoring, you always told me to aim for the top, to always be the very best at everything I do," Adelle protested.

"Yes, I told you that. But your actions are putting Charles on a negative light. Later on, who will be his fiancee? Do you like him to suffer from the scolding of the netizens?"

"Of course not!" Adelle hurriedly replied.

"I had the same thought. Now that we’re on the same page, please stop causing harm to the Princess. Can’t you see that all your actions are having the opposite effect? In the end, you’re only hurting yourself more than her."

After nagging some more, her father hung up.

Adelle was seething that smoke was coming out of her ears. She threw the cell phone unto the bed. After a few minutes she picked it up and browsed the internet. She frowned when she noticed that there was nothing related to the explosion that happened earlier.

Her face lit up with a smile as she spoke. "Father is absolutely right. Charles is truly remarkable. He managed to shield himself from any news or articles related to the tragedy," she remarked, her admiration for Charles growing even stronger.

She smiled when she remembered that their engagement party would be a day after the closing of the Battle of the Titan. Her father wanted to use the opportunity to introduce her and Charles to the influential young people of the four big countries in the world.

She was about to call Charles when an incoming call distracted her.

"Hello, Adelle, this is Hailley’s younger sister. Hailley would like to speak with you."

Adelle’s expression turned grim as her face clouded over. "I am sorry, but I am busy right now. I am in the middle of a meeting. I’ll call her later." With that, she hung up without hesitation.

Meanwhile, in Lireya, the Minister of Defense met with the crown prince and the security team.

"Do you think that my daughter is being targeted? This is the third time that someone attempted to harm her." Prince Ibarra said in a concerned voice.

"The Duke of Ereseo did confirm that they received a message from a person code-named ’Alpha.’ However, he did not mention the details of the plot." He shared the plot to assassinate the princess.

"Who could be behind this scheme? My daughter did not have enemies at all."

The Defense Minister pondered for a while before sharing his guess. "Maybe the princess earned some enemies because of her brilliance. She defeated the daughter of Uropa’s Prime Minister, not only in one event but in three. She also defeated the world champion in the 400-meter dash."

The crown prince looked at the Defense Minister. The man was indeed intelligent and worthy of his post.

"Your Highness, I just received a report that they have found the culprit who planted the mini bombs on the ground. It was the maintenance man in the blue shirt operating the sweeper.

"He is just a pawn. They should catch the mastermind. Assign additional guards to Amaya and Donello," Prince Ibarra commanded.

Meanwhile, at the Maharlika Palace, a pair of young capitalists breathed a sigh of relief when Princess Amaya was no longer in danger.

Ren asked Ava curiously, "Tell me, how much did you earn from your bidding site?"

"What do you mean? Perhaps you should ask, ’How much did we earn?’ It’s not just mine; it belongs to all of us. You, me, Sister Aya, and even Uncle Dave."

Ren cast a bewildered glance in her direction. He often struggled to comprehend the extent of his sister’s innocence.

"We won over 100 million!" Ava responded enthusiastically.
