Chapter 33: The Unknown Prince

Marx led Amaya to where Prince Ibarra was. The Crown Prince wanted to retire to his room as his father wished to discuss with him an urgent matter.

His room was also on the same floor as Amaya’s. Marx booked him a few more rooms for his entourage.

"Dinner is two hours from now. It will be on the second floor." He reminded him before they parted.

...

At Lireya, King Duncan and his council were in an emergency meeting. The Lireyan netizens were asking about Ibrahim Rocas. The two portraits of him painted by Amaya were circulating on the internet like wildfire. They were demanding the truth from the monarchy.

King Duncan has a headache. The existence of his second son was well hidden until now!

"Dad, it is time that we let the truth out. My brother is dead and he can no longer pose any threat to Lireya." Prince Ibarra said seriously on the video call.

The council agreed with the Crown Prince.

"I saw the artifacts in the museum. Those belong to Ibrahim and Amaya and should rightfully belong to Lireya. You should negotiate with the Usturian government." King Duncan said in his deep voice.

"Marx Skylar argued that he has equal rights because he was the one who discovered and brought them back. But he said he will hand them over to Lireya in a month’s time after creating a replica of them. He said it was his gift to Lireya for its centennial as a monarchy.

"That’s good then. We don’t have to strain our relationship with Usturia.

Prince Ibarra hesitated. Initially, he wanted to discuss the island that Marx Skylar bought for Amaya but he decided it better to discuss it when he was back. He ended the call and took his rest.

After an hour, the Lireyan Monarchy released an official statement announcing the identity of Ibrahim Rocas as the Crown Prince’s twin brother. Photos of him together with Prince Ibarra as babies and as they grew up were released. The statement said that he served Lireya as a military doctor and that his identity was hidden due to national security. He was now acknowledged as the second prince of Lireya.

Like Amaya, Prince Ibrahim became a trending topic on the internet. He was greatly praised for his heroic escape from the airplane. Marx Skylar has released a video clip of how he jumped out of the airplane a second before it exploded.

Photos of his work on the island dominated the internet. Netizens started to compare him and their Crown Prince.

"Prince Ibrahim is a genius. Look at his works. I hope to see the real thing soon."

"Our Prince Ibrahim is great! What a genius!"

"What a great artist! Look at his paintings."

"Why are most of his paintings, that of Princess Danaya?"

When a netizen brought up the topic of Ibrahim’s paintings, they started speculating about the relationship between him and Danaya. People by nature have a wild imagination. But most of their speculations were in fact half-truths.

"Maybe Princess Amaya misses her mother that’s why Prince Ibrahim painted portraits of her mother."

"Why was Ibrahim on the same plane as Danaya?"

"Duh, he is a military and it is said that he was on a covert mission."

...

At SkyScapes Marx accompanied Amaya to her room. He wanted to spend more time with her because he will definitely miss her when she goes back to Lireya.

"Aya you should be careful when you talk to the reporters. There are malicious people who would twist your words so they can create a sensational story. That’s what they do for a living. Sometimes they don’t care whether what they write is true or not."

"Okay Marx, I’ll be careful." She said giving him her full attention, her eyes sparkling.

Marx was breathless for a second. He wanted to gather her in his embrace and kiss those pinkish cute lips.

"Do you understand your relationship with Ibrahim and Ibarra?" Marx looked away. He will lose control if he continued looking at her.

Amaya looked at him blankly for a few seconds.

"Daddy Ibrahim is my biological father and Daddy Ibarra is my uncle."

"It is not as simple as that Aya. Your mother married Prince Ibarra and he is your father per your birth certificate." Marx said slowly thinking that if he explained slowly Amaya would understand.

"So, he was the prince that stole the princess away on her wedding day." Amaya suddenly understood the stories that his father told her as a child. All her life what she knew was her daddy and mommy were happily married and loved each other deeply. She felt she disliked Ibarra a little.

She went to the bedroom and was back after two minutes.

"This is the only photo I have of my father and mother. Daddy has a mole on the corner of his right eye." She handed him a wallet-size photo framed in elaborately carved wood.

Marx accepted the photo and studied it. It was a photo of the young Ibrahim looking happily at the camera. The young woman beside him who looked like Amaya was also smiling and looking at the camera.

"Adult matters are complicated Aya. Don’t think too much about it. Besides, it was already in the past." Marx said in a gentle tone.

"Daddy must have been deeply hurt. He loved my mommy very much. He told me stories about how they met and how they fell in love." She said sadly.

"The fact remains that Princess Danaya was married to the Crown Prince. It’s recorded in Lireyan history and you are officially the daughter of the Crown Prince with his first wife. So you are the first princess of Lireya." Marx decided to explain to her the truth of her identity.

Amaya nodded.

"Now I understood why Daddy told me that message."

Marx arched his eyebrows waiting for her to continue.

"He told me that if I had a chance to meet his father and brother I should tell them that he has let go of the past and has forgiven them. What he lost, he gained back in the end." Amaya said, her voice tinged with sadness.

Marx’s respect for Ibrahim went a notch higher. But his heart ached for the man he regarded highly. Hasn’t he suffered too much injustice from his very own family?

He was all the more determined to protect and take care of the daughter he left behind.
