Chapter 325: You Came Back

Earlier, Charles Gray felt envious when he saw Lireya’s first princess laughing and smiling at what Prince Raquim had said to her. However, when he got closer, he noticed that the princess’s laughter and smiles did not reach her eyes.

Charles Gray felt a rush of complicated emotions and chose to lower his gaze, hoping to conceal them from the Princess. After a moment, he lifted his head and spoke to her, with an expressionless face.

"Is this your first time attending ’Battle of the Titans,’ Princess? How many events are you joining?" he asked, looking directly at her amber eyes that matched the copper color of her slightly wavy hair. He was fascinated by them.

"Yes, it is my first time," Princess Amaya said, maintaining eye contact with Chancellor Gray. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"I will be participating in the archery individual, team competition, and the mixed team competition." Something about his gray eyes compelled Amaya to continue gazing into them, trying to unravel the enigma hidden behind their coldness.

"My sister is also participating in equestrian and track and field events," Donello interjected. He took pride in highlighting how amazing his sister was.

"Isn’t it tiring for you to participate in so many events?" Charles Gray asked.

"It’s okay. The schedules don’t conflict with each other," Amaya replied in a matter-of-fact manner.

King Ralden looked displeased. Another man joined them, trying to monopolize the conversation with Princess Amaya.

As the banquet was in full swing, Princess Amaya suddenly felt the urge to excuse herself and visit the restroom. Her female guard, who had been keeping a watchful eye on her, discreetly tailed her as she made her way to the restroom.

Meanwhile, King Ralden, excused himself to take a phone call. He stepped out of the hall to take the call but had actually waited for Princess Amaya to come back from the restroom.

Prince Raquim and Prince Donello did not suspect anything and continued their meal.

After a minute, Charles Gray excused himself and headed toward the restroom.

When Princess Amaya returned to the banquet hall, she opted to take a break on the balcony. The banquet hall was situated on the second floor, and from the balcony, one could enjoy the beautiful view of the garden below. As most people were still having their dinner, the balcony was empty.

The Princess was lost in thought when startled by a hypnotic voice behind her. It was too close for comfort.

"Why are you so lost in your thoughts, Princess?"

"Ah, it is you, Your Majesty. I am just getting a breather. I am going back inside as the others might worry if I am not back soon."

When Princess Amaya tried to leave, King Ralden grabbed her arm. She stepped back to create some distance between them.

"Why so guarded from me, Princess? I am your cousin-in-law, after all. I just want to invite you for a private dinner tomorrow as I have some proposals to discuss with you." King Ralden spoke gently; his voice was like a flowing stream soothing a tired soul.

Princess Amaya found it hard to resist. Before she could answer, ’Yes,’ Charles Gray appeared with his hands in his pocket.

"I have been looking for you, Your Majesty. I am surprised to find Princess Amaya here as well." Charles’ gaze lingered on Princess Amaya.

King Ralden was irritated.

"Excuse me. I need to go back inside." Without waiting for a response, Princess Amaya left the two men and hurried back to Donello and Prince Raquim.

"Chancellor, I am just talking to my cousin-in-law about a proposal. What is it that you want to discuss with me?" King Ralden was frowning as he asked.

"It is not convenient for me to discuss it at the moment, so I would like to invite Your Majesty for a private dinner tomorrow." Charles Gray said casually.

King Ralden pursed his lips. He looked at Princess Amaya’s disappearing back.

"Okay, Chancellor. Who am I meeting tomorrow?" King Ralden tried to mask his displeasure.

Charles Gray looked at him thoughtfully but did not answer.

"Your Majesty, you will receive the information tomorrow. My assistant will be waiting for you in the lobby at 6:00 p.m. Please make sure to be on time. Let’s head back now, as the banquet is ending soon, and the athletes need to rest."

...

Two hours after the gala dinner, Princess Amaya was preparing to sleep inside her suite room. Two female guards were in the adjacent room while four of her loyal guards were outside in the living room area taking turns to guard at her door.

One of them was Vasquez who stayed with her after the disappearance of Marx. He told Amaya that Marx wished for him to stay and keep her safe.

Princess Amaya did not agree at first, but Vasquez reasoned with her that it was what Marx wanted. In the end, Princess Amaya agreed to take him as her guard. He proved useful, successfully foiling a few attempts on Princess Amaya’s life in the last two years.

In one instance, an obsessed fan of the Princess stalked her at the University. He pretended to be a janitor at the school. But even before he could attack the princess, Vasquez apprehended him.

There was also another time when Princess Amaya visited an orphanage in Ra-Iya where a syndicate took the orphans as hostages. The syndicate demanded that they be exchanged with Princess Amaya. She agreed to the exchange without hesitation. Although she had strong martial arts skills, she could only subdue a few of the syndicate members and was unable to defeat more than ten. Fortunately, Vasquez and her guards were present to assist her.

"Having Vasquez around made Princess Amaya feel safe and secure, no matter where she was. She could sleep soundly knowing he was there to protect her."

At midnight, Princess Amaya was in a dreamless sleep on her queen-sized luxurious bed when a dark shadow loomed over her. A man dressed in black pants, a black long-sleeved tight-fitting shirt, and a black mask stood by her bedside. He studied her serene face for a while before bending his body and gently caressing her face with the back of his hand.

Not contended on just touching her face, he lifted his mask and pressed his lips over hers.

Amaya stirred on the bed, and the man straightened his back before retreating. The woman lying on the bed with her eyes still closed smiled.

"Marx, you came back!"
