Chapter 31: We Owe Each Other!

Crown Prince Ibarra was silent for a long time. He felt as if he was slapped hard in the face. He was pretty sure that this cunning young man before him must have figured it out. All the work of Ibrahim showed that he treated Amaya as his daughter.

"She is my daughter. If you check her birth certificate, my name is listed on it as her father." His voice was calm and collected.

"There is very little information about Ibrahim. Even, I with the resources I have didn’t have any info on him apart from what I learned from his journal and Amaya." Marx sounded frustrated.

"It is our private affair, Mister Skylar. The exhibits you displayed in your museum without our permission will result in a scandal and we have to deal with the aftermath." Prince Ibarra released a long sigh. Even as he spoke, he knew that a storm was brewing in Lireya.

"As I said Your Highness, Ibrahim piqued my interest. I will bring him the credit due him." He paused and added. "He was a good father to your ’daughter.’" There was an underlying meaning to his words that Prince Ibarra did not fail to catch.

"By the way, Your Highness, your daughter wanted to buy a piece of land or an island for her animals. I already asked someone to look into it. Initially, the owner did not want to sell but after finding who the buyer was, he agreed to sell with the condition."

Prince Ibarra looked at Marx blankly. Like he did not understand what he said. It took a while before he was able to process what Marx wanted to convey to him.

"Aren’t you meddling too much in my daughter’s affairs Mister Skylar?" Prince Ibarra was straightforward in his question.

"I am obligated to Your Highness. She was entrusted to me by her father.."

"I am her father, Mister Skylar." Prince Ibarra cut him using his authoritative voice.

"I meant the father she knew and who took care of her for twelve years!" Marx answered back in an equally authoritative voice.

"I and the whole of Lireya are grateful to you for bringing Amaya back but I can take care of my daughter from here on Mister Skylar." Prince Ibarra was again asserting his authority.

"Of course, Your Highness." Marx understood what the Crown Prince of Lireya was implying.

"The deed of that Island will be transferred to Amaya’s name when she turned eighteen a few days from now."

Prince Ibarra gritted his teeth. The stubborn CEO in front of him was not asking for his permission but was just informing him.

"Tell me how much that island cost and we will pay you back. Though I have a lot of properties that I can just give to her."

"It is different if it comes from you. What she wanted is something that is fully hers." Marx said vaguely.

"What do you mean? And it is an Island we are talking about, not a bag or a dress."

Marx looked at Prince Ibarra strangely.

"There are a lot of things that you still need to know about your daughter. For one, she grew up knowing that she owned an Island because she was the only inhabitant once Ibrahim died. That island never appeared on any map or in any of the satellite photos. So she wanted to have a similar one after we left her island."

Prince Ibarra looked at the young man before him. He has trouble understanding what he meant.

"But she cannot have everything she wanted just because she wants it." Prince Ibarra was irritated.

"Of course, she can. Why not?"

Prince Ibarra looked at Marx in surprise.

"She will be spoiled if she gets everything she wanted."

"Amaya is a very reasonable person. Ibrahim taught her well."

Prince Ibarra felt a little embarrassed. Looked like Marx Skylar understood his daughter well.

"I have arranged for a cargo plane to transport the five animals that we brought with us from the island and also the herbs and medicinal plants that Aya brought with her."

"What did you just call her?" Prince Ibarra asked.

"Aya. That’s how she introduced herself to me the first time we met."

’So Ibrahim called her Aya just like how he called Danaya.’

"My friend has a zoo in Lireya. I made arrangements for the animals to be placed there temporarily until the island is ready."

"You are doing so much for my daughter I am starting to get worried." Prince Ibarra expressed his concern.

"I owe her my life." Marx simply said. ’I like her and I want to protect and care for her for the rest of her life.’ He added silently.

"She saved your life and you save her as well. You are now even and should no longer owe each other." Prince Ibarra felt that Marx was a dangerous man and he did not want to owe him.

"That is where you are wrong Your Highness. Aya and I owe each other and we will not be able to repay each other in a lifetime."

’What does he mean by that? Does he mean that he will meddle in my daughter’s affairs for the rest of her life?’

"The island you bought for my daughter, how much is it?" Prince Ibarra asked again.

"It is a hundred million. Amaya will pay for it." Marx said nonchalantly.

Prince Ibarra’s eyes widened. A hundred million. Just how big the island was? Did he say that Amaya will pay for it?

"A hundred million! How big is the island? What is the name and who did you buy it from? Why is it so expensive? And how will Amaya pay for it? Does she have money?" Prince Ibarra asked a barrage of questions.

Marx was silent.

Prince Ibarra paused. He remembered his brother’s golden coffin. He also remembered Amaya’s tiara for her seventh birthday and the precious metals and gemstones that were put on display. Could it be that Amaya has lots of those?

Marx studied Prince Ibrahim’s facial expressions. He could read what was going through his mind. He was smart and he figure it out quite fast.

Amaya might be in danger as more people figure out that she has a lot of treasures in her possession.
