Raised From The Wild-Chapter 279: The Favored Mistress
Dave gave out a long sigh.
"My sister was very beautiful and gentle. She was young and promising."
Amaya glanced at Dave. He must have been very fond of his sister.
"Unfortunately, she was so naive and willful. In the end, her fleeting life ended tragically."
"What happened?" Amaya asked carefully. Dave looked fragile at that moment.
"Dane fell in love with the King of Ra-iya. She chose to be with the king than to be with her family. My parents were very disappointed and disowned her. Because of that, we drove her farther away and closer to that playboy." Dave said between gritted teeth.
"I suppose the King of Ra-iya was smitten by her. He doted on her more than the queen and the queen was jealous. One should never underestimate the viciousness of a jealous woman."
Amaya pondered on his words. In the few months that Amaya had returned to Lireya, she read about the history of the monarchy in other countries. She often wondered why monarchy only existed in the Aeseana and not in other countries.
She learned about the dirty tricks and viciousness of the harem and of brothers killing each other for the throne. She had asked herself what was the use of kings having concubines and many sons. In the end, they would kill each other because they would be a threat to the throne.
After reading the history of the Royalties of Uropa, the conclusion that Princess Amaya has was that the decline and subsequent downfall of the monarchy of Uropa was because of the jealousy of the women in the harem.
Somehow she admired her Daddy Ibrahim. He only had two concubines just like his grandfather. When both of his concubines died, he did not take new ones. He probably thought that the ending of his concubines would still be death.
Amaya was brought back to the present when Dave’s mellow voice reached her ears.
"The King of Ra-Iya built a pink villa for her. Pink was her favorite color." Dave glanced at Amaya to see if she would smirk but Amaya had no reaction.
"Hey, Princess are you even listening?" He asked in disappointment.
Amaya coughed lightly. "Of course. Please continue."
"Dana was so proud of her pink Villa that she would always show it off by inviting the king’s other concubines and have snacks and tea with them. It pissed off the queen and she came out of her way to harm my sister."
"It is just a villa. Besides I stayed in the White Villa which used to be the queen’s abode and it is very luxurious and elegant." Amaya shared her thoughts.
"What do you know? Do you think that a jealous woman would be rational?"
"She is the queen. She has the highest status. How can she be jealous when your sister was not even a concubine? She has no status at all." Amaya stressed this point and it left a sour taste in Dave’s mouth. He looked irritated.
"The king was giving more attention to my sister. She was the most favored at that time. Of course, it was also because my sister is outstanding. I learned later that the king loved to listen to her when she played the piano or the violin."
"Because of this, the queen tried to harm her. Fortunately, King Ralden would always protect her."
"Why did King Ralden not marry your sister and make her a concubine?" Amaya finally asked.
"My sister has still to turn eighteen at that time." Dave brooded over how lonely his eighteenth birthday was.
"The king of Ra-Iya went on a diplomatic mission to Chaneya. Three days after he left, and a day before she would turn eighteen, the Pink Villa caught fire in the middle of the night."
Dave’s voice croaked.
Amaya gasped.
"My sister and her maid were trapped inside the house and what came out were their charred bodies." Dave’s eyes reddened as tears started to fall.
"My pretty sister was gone just like that."
Amaya could see how much Dave loved his twin sister and how her death pained him so much.
She wanted to comfort him so she approached him and patted his head. Marx who was working on his laptop looked up and had an ugly expression.
"You should be comforted that Dane’s love was requited. At least King Ralden loved her back." Marx said drily. He stood up and pulled Amaya in his arms.
Dave who was very sad did not notice Marx’s action.
"Ah, that playboy! He loves and dotes on all his women. So to him, my sister is nothing special at all." Dave said between gritted teeth.
"But, I heard that he punished the queen and she became sick and after that, the queen died," Marx added.
"Even if he did, my sister is still dead and cannot come back to life," Dave yelled angrily. His grip on the coffee mug tightened and the mug broke. A shrad cut his palm and blood gushed out.
"You are bleeding." Amaya was about to hold his wrist and examine his would but Marx was faster.
Amaya pressed a button beside the switch on the wall and a maid hurried over.
"Bring me the medicine kit."
The maid went out and hurried back to the study with a medicine kit in her hand.
Amaya was about to take the medicine kit from the maid but Marx took it.
"Marx, let me do it."
"It is okay, Aya. This is just a small wound. I can handle this." Marx opened the medicine kit and took out a disinfectant and an ointment.
’What’s with Marx today?’ Amaya thought to herself.
Dave was still immersed in the memory of what happened when his family received the news about the fire. Both his parents suffered a stroke but were lucky they were brought to the hospital at the right time.
If only he was paying attention, he would notice that It was Marx who attended to his wounds and not the princess. Additionally, he was a little bit rough. Without him knowing it, Marx was punishing him for the pat he received from Amaya.
