Chapter 239: She Has Eyes Like His Mate

The three humans became silent and their gazes were trained to the wall. The three were still wearing their goggles so they could see in the dark.

Even the horses were silent and they stood still.

Amaya looked at the horses with doubt. ’Are they scared? But why are they silent and not neighing?’ Amaya’s understanding of animal behavior has been challenged since she came to this mountain.

Marx took out the dried food from his backpack. Amaya and Vasquez also took out theirs and started eating silently. There was only a single battery-operated torch in the middle of the three of them.

The howls continued followed by roars and shrieks. Just how many animals were killed? Amaya could roughly guess that there were five prey that fell victim to their predators.

"Some beasts are having their feast outside," Amaya said expressionlessly. She took off her goggles and mask before eating so she could smell the stench of blood.

They heard another thud on the wall outside. Something was thrown on the place where the door of the enclosure was.

The three of them pretended that nothing happened and continued their dinner in silence. They ate fast and finished eating in fifteen minutes.

Amaya had finished cleaning up and was about to stand when something was thrown above them. That ’thing’ was caught in the iron bars that protected the enclosure. Amaya looked up and with the dim light emitted from the torch, she saw the mangled body of a boar lying on the iron bars above them.

Marx pulled Amaya in time before blood dripped from the dead boar and fell on the spot where Amaya was previously standing.

Another thud was heard and a second mangled body of an animal was thrown above. It fell beside the boar.

The three humans were standing motionless. Marx was hugging Amaya from behind.

In the next moment, they heard an ear-piercing howl and three huge shadows landed on the iron bars above them.

Whoever built the stronghold has considered all aspects of their safety. The three beasts were trying to remove the iron bars but those were so thick and strong that they were not able to make even a dent.

One of the animals went furious. It scraped the iron bars with its claws creating another ear-piercing sound. The animal roared in pain. It must have broken its claws.

Amaya recognized the roar as that of the wolf. Was it the werewolf? Curiosity got the better of her. She grabbed the torch from the ground and set the beam to maximum. The light hit the animal directly above Amaya and Marx.

Amaya roared. ’Why are you so ..?’ Amaya did not finish what she was supposed to say. She froze. What was that thing above her? It was a wolf in a human form.

The werewolf was momentarily stunned when it heard Amaya’s roar and met its amber eyes. But it recovered and bared its fangs, his saliva dripping from his mouth.

"Aya, turn off the torch now, and don’t provoke it," Marx whispered softly.

"I want to take a look. It seems like it is a wolf but not really a wolf. I think it is the werewolf that the minotaur was talking about." Amaya whispered back.

Amaya stepped away from Marx. Marx wanted to pull her back but Amaya gestured to him not to.

She pointed the beam of the torch to the lower part of the beast’s body and slowly moved it up back to its face. The structure of its legs was like that of a human but covered with a wolf’s fur.

The werewolf growled angrily and it wanted to remove the iron barrier that separated his prey from him. However, the iron bars did not budge at all. He became angrier and howled louder. His two companions tried to coax him and urged him to leave.

A gentle breeze blew and the leaves rustled around them. A faint scent from Amaya wafted into the nose of the werewolf. The werewolf paused. He sniffed into the air and the scent became even more distinct. It was coming from the female human below him. Amaya was wearing a totem made from Strata’s baby canine.

The werewolf was frustrated. His brother has a mate. But he did not have one. That crazy human killed his mate. In his anger, he killed him and everyone in that cage made of rock. He tried mating with the lowly wolves in the jungle but they all died half-way.

When humans entered his territory, he mated with them before turning them into his food. He found out that it was more pleasurable to mate with the humans than the wolves.

It has been a long time since the last time that the despicable humans entered his territory. He was resting in his den in the cave when he smelled the trio but he could only come out during the night. He was at his strongest when the sun had set.

The female human below him smelled so nice. She looked very ugly, with a furless body, but it didn’t matter because he liked her scent. The only beautiful thing about her was her amber eyes which were just like his mate’s

The werewolf made a whining sound and his eyes looked gentle as he stared at Amaya.

Marx and Vasquez had goosebumps when they saw that look.

Amaya growled and pointed at the werewolf.

"Are you crazy? I am a human and you .. you... you are a wolf and you are so big." Amaya found it hard to complete her sentence.

Marx stepped beside Amaya.

"What’s wrong Aya?" Marx was concerned. He was a wise man after all. He could guess what was happening.

"That damn beast wanted to mate with me." Amaya’s face reddened.

Vasquez coughed hard and he almost choked on his saliva.

Marx was furious. How dare he! He took out his gun and was about to shoot at the werewolf.

The werewolf’s eyes turned red. He bared its fangs and roared loudly.
