Chapter 235: The Myth Became Real

Amaya saw the face of a bull with two big and long horns on its head. She screamed.

"Marx!"

When the ’thing’ heard her shout, it became angry. It moved Amaya from its shoulder. Amaya was now pressed against its hairy chest. Even if Amaya shouted, her voice was turned into muffled moans.

The ’thing’ started running, and it ran very fast. Its hooves were imprinted on the ground and it gave Amaya comfort because she knew that Marx and Vasquez would be able to track her following the marks on the ground.

But then, they came to a river, and the river was wide. The ’thing’ walked upriver for some time before going to its bank to leave the river.

’Damn! This animal is pretty smart.’ Amaya cursed silently.

She needed to think of a way to escape. She thought of activating the weapons in her hunting vest but the ’thing’s’ hold on her was not too tight.

Amaya grunted. She tried to communicate with the ’thing’ using the way she communicated with Strata.

The ’thing’ only paused for a moment and then continued walking.

Amaya tried Khali’s grunt. The ’thing’ paused again. Amaya felt his breath on her hair.

’Did it look down on me just now?’

Amaya made a sound in her throat and talked to the ’thing’ like she would to Kong. ’Hello, can you let me go?’ That was what she said.

The rough and hairy hand that was holding her tightened.

Amaya: "..."

"Why did you kidnap me? Where are you bringing me?" exasperated, Amaya finally asked using Ra-Iya’s dialect.

"Mate."

"Hurt."

Amaya was dumbfounded. Did the ’thing’ talk to her? The voice was so hoarse and very unpleasant but she understood the two words he said. ’It’s mate was hurt.’

Amaya’s thoughts were chaotic. She thought about what the game master said in the morning and what Vasquez shared with them a while ago. Could it be that this ’thing’ was the creation of the lunatic scientist?

Amaya tried to lift her head and look at the ’thing’ that was carrying her. She had taken off her goggles when peed earlier.

A pair of fierce ruby-red eyes met her light brown ones. She did not cower or show any fear. She was looking at the face of a bull but the mouth was human-like. She tried to look down and found that its legs were the legs of a bull but its hands though hairy and big were the hands of a human with five fingers each.

The bull pushed a rock that Amaya thought was part of a boulder. It was a door to a tunnel. They entered what looked like a tunnel. The ’thing’ placed back the rock covering and after a few minutes of darkness, they emerged in a clearing. It was the foot of a rocky cliff. A few meters from them, she could see that a portion of the rocky wall was hollowed out. It seemed to be a dwelling with a door made of logs woven together by vines.

The ’thing’ lifted the wooden door using its free hand and put it aside. Amaya was then placed on the ground beside a smaller version of the ’thing.’ It was writhing in pain. It was biting a piece of wood probably to keep its tongue safe.

Amaya was about to check on it when the ’thing’ let out a horrendous scream. Amaya instinctively covered her ears. So it was that ’thing’ they heard earlier.

Amaya checked on the ’thing’ but it did not have any external injury.

’What is wrong with it?’ she pondered. Why was she kidnapped and how on earth did the male ’thing’ come up with an idea that she could be of help? Unless it has seen a human before.

The female ’thing’ was lying on its back like a human would do. Amaya noticed that its belly was big. Could it be that it was pregnant and was about to give birth?

"Baby.."

"My Baby.."

The female ’thing’ caressed its belly. Her words were barely discernable but Amaya understood that it was concerned about its baby.

Amaya together with her Daddy Ibrahim has helped animals deliver babies before. Her daddy after all was a military doctor. Given his background, he self-learned veterinary medicine and taught Amaya about it.

However, Amaya was perplexed. Will this ’thing’ deliver like a cow, or like a human? But judging from the pain it was enduring, it looked like it was a human.

Amaya took out a sachet of herbs and spices that would calm and somehow lessen its pain. The princess promised that she would study modern medicine if she could get out of this mountain alive.

There was nothing much she could do but massage the female ’things’ stomach to help the baby out.

"Did you have a baby before?" Amaya tried to enunciate her words clearly so they could understand her.

"Died" the male ’thing’ answered in an ugly voice.

Amaya heaved a long sigh.

She thought for a while. Maybe the female ’thing’s instinct to give birth is that of a human, but actually, she could easily give birth if she was standing. Her genitalia was that of a cow.

She gestured to the female ’thing’ to stand. Its mate helped it up. He placed its hairy hands on the wall for support.

"When you feel a contraction, you have to push really hard." Amaya urged her while continuing to massage her stomach, pushing the baby down.

The female thing let out another scream and then a little ’thing’ came out of its genitals.

Before the little ’thing’ fell on the ground Amaya caught it with both of her hands and then laid it gently on the ground.

Was it her luck to witness two births today?

The female ’thing’ was still panting and still in pain. Could it be that there is another baby in there?

Amaya felt its belly and indeed there was another baby inside. Amaya’s hands work fast. She was helping the female ’thing’ push the baby out of her body.

The female ’thing’ screamed again and pushed. Finally, the second baby was out. The female thing lay on the ground exhausted, its red eyes were closed.

The male ’thing’ lay beside its mate. It lifted its head and placed it on its hairy chest.

Amaya’s nose was sore. These ’things’ that looked like mutants were very human in nature. How can someone be so cruel as to tamper with the course of nature?
