Raised From The Wild-Chapter 229: Witnessing a Birth
Princess Amaya did not bat an eyelid. She moved fast and the hunter did not even see her fluid motion. His bow was knocked off his hand and it lay on the ground.
"Don’t you see that the lioness is pregnant and is about to give birth? Go look for other prey. Keep your hands off her." Amaya retorted fiercely.
The third hunter arrived and was panting heavily.
"Pregnant? Then, shouldn’t that make our points higher?" The hunter who just arrived said happily. The look of greed was apparent in his eyes.
"Princess, when we participated in this hunting competition, we were advised to disregard position and treat each other as equal. The rule also said that whoever saw the prey first should have the right to chase that prey. Don’t be so greedy and snatch the prey from our hands."
He took his bow and arrow and trained it toward the lioness. But his eyes widened when he saw something dropped from the lioness’ behind. He dropped his bow. Another thing dropped on the ground, then a third one, and then the fourth. Two more cubs were delivered.
Amaya was not surprised to see an animal giving birth. She had seen them countless times.
"What are you waiting for? Don’t waste your time here. If you want to win go back to the hunting ground and hunt."
"I’m sorry, Princess. Now that the lioness has given birth, then we can kill our prey and bring the cubs back." The first hunter who seemed to be the leader of the team spoke stubbornly.
"Are you crazy? Without the mother, the cubs will definitely die." Amaya was really angry.
"I will not listen to you. I saw it first and I have the right to decide on its fate." The hunter said in an equally angry voice.
"Don’t you dare!" Amaya raised her bow and arrow and pointed it at him. The two hunters also pointed their arrows at Amaya. It was three against one.
"If I were you, I should lower that useless weapon of yours." Marx’s voice was cold, chilling the surrounding air. He and Vasquez stepped out of the bush and had their guns pointed at the team leader.
The three hunters did not move. Where did they get the gun? Didn’t the organizers say that modern weapons were not allowed? 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"You are cheating! Why do you have guns? Aren’t guns not allowed?" the youngest of the three hunters said.
"We are not using our guns to hunt. We are using this to protect the Princess."
The young hunter became silent.
"Ramir, lower your weapon. The princess is right. You cannot harm a pregnant animal or one that has just given birth." Sofia suddenly appeared out of nowhere. She was riding on a majestic black stallion. She quickly glanced at the lioness who was licking her cubs.
Ramit hesitated. They wasted a lot of their time and yet they gained nothing.
From her peripheral vision, Amaya noticed the leaves of the bush moved. She shifted her bow to her left and released her arrow. There was a loud squeak and a loud thud.
"I’ll compensate you for the loss of your prey. That boar over there should be of equal point as this one. Go mark it as your kill." Amaya commanded in a fierce tone.
Several heads turned in the direction where she shot the arrow. How did she know that there was an animal there and it was a boar?
The youngest hunter ran behind the bush and cried excitedly. "Ramir, it is indeed a boar and even bigger than the one the king killed earlier."
Ramir looked at the princess with a complicated look. He lowered his weapon and retreated.
Amaya and the lioness made eye contact. The lioness made a soft noise that sounded like a whimper. Amaya made a similar sound which only Marx noticed. All others thought that the lioness made the sound.
Sofia got off from her stallion. She approached the cubs but the lioness stood in a defensive stance and roared.
"Lady Sofia, please lead your hunters and your men away from her. Give the lioness some peaceful time to carry her cubs."
"I’d like to take one of the cubs and raise it in captivity." She said while she took a few steps toward the cubs.
The lioness roared louder. Sofia stopped. She took out a small dart from her backpack. The tip of the dart was laced with a sedative that would knock out a big animal.
"What are you doing?"
Amaya flew in front of the lioness and caught the dart in time.
Sofia’s eyes widened. The team leader of the hunters was also dumbfounded. How can she move so fast?
"It will not harm her. It will only knock her out."
Amaya looked at Marx. She wanted him to drive the hunters and Sofia away. Marx understood.
"Take your prey and get out of here. The princess might change her mind and take back that boar from you." Marx spoke in such a domineering way that the three hunters were compelled to follow.
The team leader took a small syringe from his backpack. He embedded a small chip inside the boar’s body to mark it that it was his kill. They needed to take back the prey to the hunting ground. Those responsible for gathering the prey would only comb the hunting ground. It would be a pity if their prey would not be counted.
Sofia took another dart. "Princess, don’t intervene this time," Sofia warned Amaya.
"I will intervene. If you want a cub, I will give it to you. You don’t need to harm the mother." Amaya sounded a little angry. "If you knock out the mother, do you think that they will survive? There are wild animals around."
Princess Amaya turned around and faced the lioness.
Sofia was scared for her. Surely, the animal who has just given birth will be easily agitated right? It almost pounced on her earlier.
Sofia was looking at the lioness and accidentally their gazes locked. A pair of black dots against a backdrop of amber met that of two almost black orbs.
The lioness roared and a pair of sharp fangs were revealed.
"Princess Amaya, watch out!" Sofia screamed.
