Chapter 227: Sofia’s Skills

Marx stepped back instinctively and glared at Sofia.

Sofia laughed maliciously this time. "You are just a guard. Who would listen to your opinion?"

When Amaya’s group set out, Sofia stuck with them.

"Look there, it is a hare!" Sofia took out her hunting knife and threw it without hesitation. The hare was hit at the head and it died on the spot. A guard assigned to Sofia took the hare and put a mark on its body to identify that it was Sofia’s kill. There would be people who comb the hunting ground to gather the hunters’ prey.

"Your knife skills are quite good." Amaya complimented Sofia.

"Thank you." Sofia’s eyes brightened. She wanted to show off so she got hold of a vine, hurled herself up, and landed perfectly on a branch of a tree ahead of them. From a very young age, she trained in the circus and that included acrobatics.

Sofia threw another knife and a huge bird fell from the tree. Amaya’s eyebrows arched. She has to admit that Sofia was quite good.

The woman perched on a branch did a double flip in the air and landed a few meters in front of Amaya.

Amaya clapped her hands. "Perfect landing Lady Sofia."

Sofia did not say anything. She looked at Amaya strangely and without warning she hurled a knife in her direction.

"Amaya, watch out!" Marx cried out loud. He was too far away and would not be able to reach Amaya in time.

Amaya shifted a little bit to the left. She felt something whizzed past her right ear and there was a loud thud. She looked behind her and saw a young snake pinned on a tree.

"Impressive. I thought I was your target." Princess Amaya said calmly.

The corner of Sofia’s mouth curled slightly. "I am not stupid to do that, Princess. Wouldn’t I be charged with murder if I did that?"

Princess Amaya chuckled.

"This area is too small for both of us. I am going that way so don’t follow me." Amaya did not wait for Sofia’s answer. She grabbed a vine and started swinging from tree to tree.

Marx glared at Sofia before quickly running after Amaya. Vasquez ran after Marx.

Sofia’s expression turned cold. "Let us see if you can shake me. There is no fun if I don’t go with you, Princess." Sofia walked casually in the direction where the three went off. She tapped the watch on her wrist and a red dot appeared on the small map. She placed a tracker on Amaya’s backpack and also the quiver that was provided to her.

Amaya, Marx, and Vasquez were heading to the edge of the hunting ground, where the mountain ranges start. Vasquez and Marx were both physically fit. They were fast runners and yet they had a hard time catching up with Amaya.

After 30 minutes of running and swinging on the vines, Amaya sat leisurely under a tree while eating fruits. She was waiting for Marx and Vasquez. Without her knowing it, she already exited the hunting ground and entered the foot of the Janai mountain range.

She was not happy with their progress. With their current speed, It will take them a long time to reach Mount Paraiso. She needed to find a faster way for them to travel.

Just as she was enjoying her food, she felt something sniff her back and a loud roar almost ruptured her eardrums. Marx and Vasquez were tracking her using their smartwatches. When they heard a loud roar, Marx and Vasquez ran towards the direction of the roar.

When Marx had a view of Amaya, his heart was in his throat. Amaya was rolling on the ground and a big lion seemed to be pouncing on her.

Marx and Vasquez took their guns and pointed them at the lion. The lion sensed their presence and roared. It was about to pounce at the two humans when Amaya shouted "Stop!" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Don’t shoot! He will not hurt me. In fact, he is thanking me just now. I took out a huge thorn that was stuck on its paw."

Marx and Vasquez looked at the lion’s paw which seemed to be covered by patches of dark green. Were those herbs?

Vasquez looked at Marx. He wanted to ask him whether he should trust Amaya or not. What if the big lion suddenly pounced on them and bit them to death? He was a wild animal after all. The animal looked docile with the princess, but what about them?

"Lower your gun," Marx instructed him in a low voice. He obediently lowered his gun.

"The animals can detect fluctuations in our emotions. He would know if we have ill intentions towards him or not, so you should better relax."

"This is a lion king. His pride is not from here. I told him that he could repay me by providing us with a ride to Mount Paraiso. We can follow him to the pride."

Valdez : "..."

Marx: "..."

The silence stretched for a few minutes.

"Are you both alright?" Amaya asked anxiously.

Valdez was still dumbfounded. His mouth was wide open and his jaw almost dropped to the ground. He was not comforted when he saw his boss’ reaction. So, even he who has been with the Princess has that kind of reaction, how much more he who was just a mercenary and a guard?

"What did you say, Aya? Are going to bring us to the den of the lions?" Marx asked with difficulty.

"Uhmm, yes." Amaya hesitated when he saw the worry in Marx’s eyes.

"They might not harm you, but it might not be the same for me and Valdez. There might be a lot of them there and your old friend might not be able to control them especially when they are hungry." Marx tried to explain carefully.

Amaya understood where Marx was coming from. She growled at the big lion. The lion left.

"He will ask three of his brothers to come and send us to the mountain." Amaya eyed Valdez with hesitation. "The lion said that Mount Paraiso is dangerous and he did not want us to go there. But all the more that I want to go. I want to find out what secrets could be in that mountain."
