Chapter 189: An Enemy

Professor Zaldy scanned the papers in front of him. He picked up Amaya’s test paper and asked her to explain.

"Professor, the human mind is an amazing machine. Intelligent people said that a child’s brain is like a sponge and a mystery. It absorbs more than we think it can. If a child grows up with an animal when she is still young, then the child would assimilate the animal’s behavior and characteristic. The child can eventually learn the animal’s language."

"You are so confident about your reply. Why is that?" the professor asked.

One of the students who had followed Princess Amaya closely cannot take it anymore. "Professor, don’t you know her? She is the missing first Princess of Lireya. She grew up in the wild together with the animals. So she is speaking from experience."

Professor Zaldy’s eyes lit up. He stood up and approached Amaya. "So, that’s the reason why you have explained clearly."

The same student who spoke earlier took out a mini projector from his backpack and projected a video clip on the wall. It was a video of Amaya interacting with her pets in the zoo. While they could not hear the audio, one could deduce that Amaya was talking to the animals.

Professor Zaldy was delighted. "So you really can talk to the animals?" Up at that moment, it did not sink into Professor Zaldy the identity of Amaya. He was only interested in the fact that she can communicate with the animals. He did not give a damn who she was.

"Can you bring me to the animals and show me how to communicate with them? It will be your exam."

Amaya hesitated. She did not want her pets to be an object of a study or experiment. But looking at the Professor’s childlike expectant look she reluctantly nodded.

"They are no longer in the zoo, Professor. They are now living in a small forest on Verde Island."

"It doesn’t matter. We can arrange a trip there and it will be your quarterly exam. What better way to learn than seeing and experiencing the real thing?"

Her classmates supported the professor. Wouldn’t that be better than studying and taking long exams?

Amaya was conflicted about it but she could not reject the professor and her classmates. She has to tell her animal friends ahead of time.

When the bell rang, Julienne and Amaya exited the room and they moved to another classroom for their class on Languages. Unlike in High School where they have to stay in only one classroom and the teachers were the ones coming to them, in College, it is they who move from one classroom to the other.

Julienne’s expression turned ugly when their teacher handed them test papers.

"Princess, what an unlucky day. This is our first day in school and this is the third in a row of exams." Julienne grumbled.

"Is something the matter, Miss Green?" The tall and slender professor in the front called out Julienne. She looked like a model instead of a professor. She was also very young and looked like she just graduated from University.

"Nothing, Professor," Julienne said in a small voice.

The professor scanned Amaya from head to toe. There was a glint that flashed across her eyes but it was gone in a blink as if it never appeared.

Amaya focused on answering her test paper. She was done in fifteen minutes including the essays. She looked around and noticed that her classmates were still busy working on their papers. She learned a lesson from earlier so she did not submit her paper but left it lying on her desk. She took out her notebook and continued the design she started earlier.

She wrote the word ’Debutante’ at the top of her notebook. That will be the title of the new jewelry series. She was focused on drawing the pendant of the necklace when a shadow fell over her drawing.

"What do you think are you doing?" Professor Nathalia Pracela barked at her.

Amaya was so engrossed in her drawing that the hostile voice startled her and her notebook and pen fell to the ground. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"I am drawing, Professor." She said calmly. She bent down to pick up the notebook and pen on the floor. Someone took a photo secretly.

"Are you done with your exam, Miss Rocas?" the professor asked sternly. She had her arms crossed over her chest.

"Yes, Professor." She took the test paper from her desk and passed it to her. "I am waiting for my other classmates to finish before handing this to you." Amaya maintained a polite tone.

"Are you trying to cheat? What is in your notebook?" She asked. Her eyes narrowed dangerously.

"It is just drawings, Profesor." Amaya felt that the woman standing in her front was making things difficult for her.

"Give it to me. Let me see." The professor insisted.

Amaya hesitated but gave it to her.

The professor scanned the notebook and her eyes widened. She glanced at Amaya and the dark glint appeared in her eyes again.

"I’ll keep this notebook first and check to make sure that you are not cheating." She said matter-of-factly.

Amaya stood and snatched the notebook from her. She was a few centimeters taller than her professor so she was looking down at her.

"Professor, this is my private property. I already gave you the face by letting you scan through it. I have already submitted my test paper to you. And if you did not notice, I would like to kindly remind you that today is only my first day in school. I don’t have any notes of your previous lessons." Amaya kept her voice soft so only the professor heard her. She was polite to the professor but her voice carried a hint that she was not someone that could easily be bullied.

"Watch your word, Miss Rocas. You are maybe a Princess, but you are still a student here, and I am your Professor, so you have to show me respect!"
