Chapter 187: Julienne’s True Intent

"Miss Green, Miss Rocas! Are you complaining?" Professor Stephane Gray called out the two new students who were whispering and giggling.

Amaya and Julienne stiffened. They were surprised at their professor’s stern voice. They both wonder why their Teacher Stephane was so different from Professor Gray sitting like an ice statue in front of them.

The two new students lowered their heads and started working on the test paper. Amaya finished working on her test paper and passed it to Stephane who frowned.

"Did you recheck your answers, Miss Rocas?" Stephane asked. His temperament was that of a strict teacher.

"Yes, Teacher Stephane...I mean Professor Gray." Amaya slipped but corrected herself. She was used to calling him Teacher Stephane. She did not understand why teachers were addressed differently in high school and college. Weren’t they all teachers?

Amaya packed her things and was ready to leave the room when Stephane signaled her to stay put. He was checking her papers. Surprise was reflected on his face as he flipped the pages of Amaya’s test papers. Her answers were all correct so he gave permission for her to exit the class.

Amaya waited on a bench under a big tree for Julienne. The front of the Science Building has a few big trees where stone benches were strategically arranged underneath so students can sit individually or in groups. It also has a beautiful flower garden bordering the porch similar to the one at the high school campus.

Amaya was fiddling with her cell phone when a group of male students approached her. The royal guards assigned to her who were in civilian clothes and were hiding nearby were on full alert.

"Princess Amaya, you finally came to our school. It is an honor to be your schoolmate." The leader of the group sounded polite. He extended his hand for a handshake. "I am Victorino Romano, the firstborn of General Fabian Romano but you can simply call me Victor and these are my classmates. We are on our third year here."

Amaya sized them up. They did not seem to have evil intentions so she extended her hand for the handshake but quickly retracted it. "Nice meeting you Victor." An awkward silence ensued.

Victor cleared his throat. "If you encounter trouble here, you can let us know and we will take care of you." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"Thank you." Amaya nodded politely.

"Amaya!" Julienne called out as she hurriedly jogged to her place. She eyed the men crowding in front of Amaya warily.

"Since you have company, we will take our leave, Princess." He bowed slightly and left with his friends. His father always highlighted to him that it is their duty to protect the royal family. That thinking was already embedded in his mind.

"Who are they? Did they create trouble?" Julienne asked in a worried voice.

"No. Victor is the son of General Romano. He is very polite and I did not feel any malicious intent from him."

Amaya sized up Julienne. She gestured for her to sit on the stone bench.

"Who are you, Julienne? Why are you sticking by my side? What is your intention?" Amaya asked a very difficult question and Julienne was taken aback. She was silent for a long time. She did not expect Amaya to ask such a question and she was taken off guard.

She was looking down at her feet and kept on kicking the small pebbles. She was contemplating whether to tell her the truth or to lie to her. In the past months that she was with her, without her meaning to, she found a true friend. It was no longer about work, but she was truly protective of Amaya.

Amaya waited for a long time. Her heart was racing. She treated Julienne as her first female friend. She was scared to hear the answer.

"My name is really Julienne Green, princess. Someone sent me to protect you from being bullied. My original intent is just to be an ordinary classmate to you but who would know that you befriended me and become my true friend? What I felt for you is real. I treat you as my real friend." Julienne was careful with her words. She was scared of offending the princess. She was more scared of losing a friend.

Amaya inhaled deeply. "Who sent you?" She asked meeting Julienne’s green eyes.

"Can’t you guess who?" Julienne challenged her with her eyes.

Amaya looked down and kicked a pebble under her feet. Who else could it be?

"Marx?" She asked breathlessly.

"You guessed it well, Princess. Indeed it was Marx Skylar who hired me to accompany you in school. He was afraid that you will be bullied because it was your first time going to school and there might be some things that you are not familiar with or you are uncomfortable with." Julienne explained when she noted that Amaya was not angry. "Marx is really thoughtful. He cared a lot about you."

Amaya smiled. "I know." She was not surprised to hear Julienne’s confession. It was really Marx’s character to do something like this.

"How did you join school here? Are you really a university student?" Amaya was curious.

"Actually, I am in my second year of college when someone found me for this job. I am twenty years old this year and it was Dave who arranged for my transfer to join your class. He has a lot of connections."

"But wouldn’t this affect your studies?" Amaya asked worriedly.

"Don’t worry. I made arrangements with my school in Uropa. Since we are in a different time zone, I am attending online classes during the evening so I am not missing a lot."

"It is good to know that it is not affecting your studies. How did you find the exam now?" Amaya tried to change the topic.

"I will definitely fail." Julienne wailed. "Don’t you think Teacher Stephane is a bit different compared to when he is teaching us in High School?"

"He is no longer Teacher Stephane. He is Professor Gray."
